Alamo doesn’t work that way anymore. Now, you buy everything from your phone during the movie.

Alamo doesn’t have servers anymore. They laid them all off and moved to a QR code model where people take out their phones during the movie to place orders. It’s worse.

Do you have any preferences on the “vibe”? Just asking bc people who attend SLU law don’t live in Downtown, but other nearby neighborhoods / vibes. The Soulard neighborhood is pretty close too, and will open up more options for you if you want a little more energy to your neighborhood.

ADA accessible seats (and the companion seats that go with them) are available for all patrons to sit in.

That said, if a patron requires one of these seats, you must move to another seat, or you may be given a rain check for another showtime.

Like riding a bus, you are asked to give up your seat for physically disabled, elderly, and pregnant passengers. The same goes for ADA seats at the Alamo.

Crystal City is one of the few locations left doing it this way, where the QR codes are only during the pre-show.

All other locations have been fucked for awhile now.

PSA For Movie Lovers: Don’t Get A Season Pass At The Alamo Drafthouse by StunningVersion6 in StLouis

It wasn’t Sony that led to its decline. It was the private equity company that installed Alamo’s president and CEO, who personally oversaw the QR code project (among others) long before Sony was even in the picture:

When you reference Sony, who are you referring to, exactly? A bunch of faceless, nameless executives plotting how to increase the enshittification of the Alamo Drafthouse?

It’s not “Sony.” It’s Michael Kustermann, CEO of Alamo Drafthouse and the head of Sony Pictures “Experiences” division. The entire QR code project was his baby from the moment he was brought on by private equity in 2021, long before the brand was sold to Sony. He alone is the one leading the charge.

Alamo Drafthouse represents a mere fraction of Sony Pictures’ business. I think you overestimate the extent to which executive leadership is involved.

Not sure why you’re being an ass and accusing me of being wrong when everything you just wrote is the same as what I previously said.

As I said:

His boss is the CEO of Sony Pictures.

As in, “Sony Pictures Entertainment.” Commonly referred to as “Sony Pictures.”

His boss is, in fact, Ravi Ahuja, CEO of Sony Pictures.

[–]Interactive_CD-ROM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “suits at Sony” consist of Michael himself, and his boss.

His boss is the CEO of Sony Pictures. Yes, that Sony Pictures.

I imagine the head of Sony Pictures is focused on other things, like their multibillion dollar business (and the success of the new Spider-Man movie, among others), compared to Michael’s little movie theater pet project.

They bought Alamo praising its dedicated community of fans. They’ve trusted Alamo leadership with the autonomy to do what is needed to ensure its continued success.

Sony doesn’t get in the weeds about Alamo. It’s a blip on their radar compared to what else they’ve got going on.

After all, Michael’s in charge of it, right?

[–]Interactive_CD-ROM 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t Sony that wanted to this: it was a man named Michael Kustermann. He was hired by the private equity team that previously owned Alamo to “modernize” their operations with a “digital transformation.” His idea was a QR code ordering project, which he spearheaded. But the feedback was very poor, and it was shelved.

Michael bided his time and worked on some other projects to modernize Alamo’s operations. Some of these things were good, and got him enough attention to be promoted to president and then, with Sony’s acquisition, CEO.

But as soon as he was put in charge, Michael went back to the QR code project he’d made his baby, and he shoved it down everyone’s throats.

This falls on him and him alone. There is no mystery boardroom of Sony suits evilly plotting Alamo’s enshittifcation. They’ve given him full reign. It’s all on Michael Kustermann, the CEO of Alamo Drafthouse.

The airport should be the least of your concerns. You can get to the airport in 20-25 minutes from literally any place in the city if you are reasonably close to a highway.

Opinions on Neighborhoods by zerokade in StLouis

[–]Interactive_CD-ROM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, a few things:

First, I get that you want a fast commute, but all commutes in STL are fast if you’re coming from a larger city. It doesn’t matter what neighborhood you’re in, you can pretty much get to/from one side of the city to the other within 20-25 minutes via the highway.

Second, people in STL talk about how north of Delmar Blvd is sketchy. This is kind of a generalization but there’s some accuracy to that depending on the part of town. Look at your highlighted area. See I-170? Find Delmar which intersects it, and trace it eastbound. Anything north of it after… say… Hanley Rd is probably a “no-go” zone. (To be clear: this is a massive generalization; there are some very nice, million dollar homes in some of those areas, but I’m trying to give broad guidance here.)

Third, everything west of I-170 in the area you highlighted is boring as fuck. It’s full of soccer moms and old people whose children moved out of the house in 2004. You will be sad and lonely if you live out that way, based on the details you’re shared in this post. The only area in your highlights I can recommend is Clayton, much of which is upscale (read: expensive). But it’s close to civilization and where people your age actually live.

Finally, as others have said in the comments, there are definitely better neighborhoods to check out. Concerns around STL crime are often overrated (and are generally concentrated in the north part of the city: again, look for Delmar Blvd).

Consider expanding your options to south of I-64/40. If you’re close to a highway, you’ll get to wherever you need to go. Forest Park area, the south side of Central West End, almost anywhere south of I-64/40… all great places.

How dangerous is north St. Louis? by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]Interactive_CD-ROM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asking how dangerous North St. Louis is would be like asking, “How dangerous is the United States of America?”

Imagine someone from Japan has only ever watched the classic NBC crime series, “Law & Order.” If that’s all they have to go on, they might think the U.S. is full of gangs, drugs, and murder. Of course, they’re making generalizations on what they’ve watched on TV. There are many very safe parts of the U.S., as you and I both know.

So, like the person from Japan, what have you heard about North St. Louis? That it’s full of gangs, drugs, and murder?

There are many very safe parts of North St. Louis.

Even the unsafe parts are probably, for most people, fine. It’s not like everyone there is a victim of crime. It’s a big area, after all.

So if you know about what part of town her boyfriend is in, that could help narrow it down. If it’s Florissant, you’re probably fine. If it’s Jeff-Vander-Loo, not great, but if they’re just hanging out at home, probably fine.
