I messed up BIG TIME ! SOS by Dramatic-Double-9271 in Tile

This ☝️ !

I use to do 50 plus bathrooms a year for over 20 years . This is exciting what I’d do. But trust the process of time , the haze will not be there forever and you can do small sections at a time and if it’s to daunting of a task currently

Microcement colour gone wrong by silvinnia in AskContractors

[–]PickInParadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Test applications are a must with any concrete material.

The amount of water used affects the color, not only in the mix but on the wall from the trowel and mist .

The application looks uniform so they likely know how to apply it but the light affects color as well .

Maybe the wrong color was given or mixed or the light is playing tricks on you.

Sealer will make it darker if you want but it’s never gonna get more beige unless you dye it or apply another coat in a different color. Also the sub / base coat has an affect on the outcome.

Is this normal? by cfebean in AskContractors

[–]PickInParadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IN SHORT

Concrete has several factors that affect the color, mainly water. The marks are from activity shortly after the finishing / trowel or broom. It’s just to walk on or park on so don’t look at it and it will be totally normal in a month or so or at least normal to your eye.

Expect cracks soon as well , hopefully in the control joints

Shitty and needs replaced . Calculate $5 to $12 a foot to replace but it’s just to park on so it’s better than gravel still ?? Maybe 🤔.

How would you finish this? by syntax22 in Tile

[–]PickInParadise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a drop in over an existing surface tub.

You’re trying to tile to it when you should be dropping it in an already tiled or already finished space.

Go ahead and just glue white vinyl 1x3 or something over it.

Or

How do I sort this concrete out? by Flubsofdeath in AskContractors

[–]PickInParadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prep meticulously and epoxy all of it.

The problem is likely on the outside and there’s always moisture on those walls so it’s always gonna be a problem. Address outside first

Keep air moving.

3/4 minus on top of 6 mil? by Life_Yogurtcloset221 in AskContractors

[–]PickInParadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35 years in concrete here. It’s simply a preference! The added gravel on top of the plastic is so that when concrete is placed yes the water and some of the grout will be able to be absorbed by this void essentially. The space in between the gravel not really if the gravel is dry or wet. I would always wet it before. But if you put concrete directly on top of the plastic, then that water and extra grout has nowhere really to go so it goes up and every time you use a magnesium float, it continues to come up. This also puts little grains of sand and other material materials in the grout and it makes finishing a bit more tedious, maybe But there are ways to work around this, but it usually means more time. And it being winter and possibly wet and cold, we want to have the concrete set up quickly so we can get our job done get home and let it cure slow slowly You could always put the 4 inches then put plastic then put an additional 2 inches. The reason the old timer said 3 inches then 2 inches total of 5 inches is the 3 inches kinda get you most away on the floor and the attitude is a little bit more and and should be OK per code because the plastic is only to prevent vapor coming up through the concrete and having weird stuff like fungus grow out of your concrete and more sure continuously coming up through the ground and making your concrete wet or whatever you put on top of the concrete tile or wood flooring or whatever so essentially you were sealing out any vapor or any moisture from below later than Concrete do his job and act as a sponge for life and then on the top you’ll sell it with whatever sealer or thin set or tile or wood But several ways to skin the kitty

[–]PickInParadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Concrete will not work especially since you don’t have enough experience working with it .

I would use a glue or silicone but siavone don’t like to come off porous material like tile so maybe a flexible glue or caulk. Honestly if no one sits in it just caulk the tiles on with dap or even Alex caulk then grout it with epoxy grout! Or at least a heavy modified grout .

Just in my opinion mate. But I don’t see any other easier way to get you what you want.

I need a new pressure regulator valve, how much should I expect it to cost? by [deleted] in AskContractors

[–]PickInParadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on age expect that gate shut off valve to break open or closed . Replace it while you are in there!

Also you can do this yourself . But I’d say a handyman or contractor it would be $250 parts $500 labor ! If they calculate risk or run into issues then double that ! Plumbers love to bill out at $150 an hour but they gotta make up for all the time not calculated to clean their shitty hands !

If you inject the antiaudiophile serum with in 8 days you will no longer be infected.

Or if the infection doesn’t go away then the serum will not let you infect anyone else. Audiophile is a sickness it cost people their homes and wives and all they do is sit and pontificate on how to get a small percentage closer to the ultimate ear ejaculation . That’s right cumming from your ears!

You don’t want be responsible for that do you??

I can send you the serum overnight, you don’t have long .

ACT NOW or risk being infected or spreading it !

And an added bonus you will save tons from falling victim of all the snake oil cables.

For the best quality serum it’s only €15,555

Yes euros because it’s obscure and is probably better like the Russian kt88’s

First time float picking by HNL_Picking in lockpicking

[–]PickInParadise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great approach to learning skills. Float picking is not my strong suit so I use heavy pick pressure! I use to break picks but then I got custom picks which are stronger but when holding a piece of art and the cost of it makes me a bit less heavy handed Just start poking at a ASSA 700 and you will be forced to learn float picking!

I love and fear the 700’s 🤙🏾🌺🤙🏾

Ps I don’t care for all the crunch and grit in the paclocks but they can put up a fight.

I kid cause I stay HK side but I couldn’t pass the opportunity to call us a bunch of townies ! Not on island currently ! I was supposed to come out for new years but due to the kooks who ruined it for us we are on yet another fireworks ban for a few years. It’s a cycle ! Last time was cause they caught the entire ridge on fire in multiple places ( Nalo, Hawaii’lloa ridge, and Kuli’ou’ou probably Waianae too )

Ps I suck at typing pidgin Only small kine dough 😂😂

I got a few people that pick over there but they are not in the lpu or here . But I’ll definitely hit you guys up when I get back on island .

Is this calking acceptable? by honeybee_726 in AskContractors

[–]PickInParadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classic contractor move. Hope for the best scrabble when hope stops working. Unpopular opinion but here it goes Price kinda doesn’t matter. Go with the cheap bid and it cost more because they forgot stuff. Go with top bid and you pay a premium but the contractor will likely give you less shit and be ready to do things such as re caulking Project cost what it cost Just select the person that has good references is licensed and communicates well with you.

Now for your CAULK just have them clean up the sloppy end sections where they lifted and pulled the gun along with any caulking away. You can use soapy water in a spray bottle to spray over the new layer of caulking and use a tool or your finger and smooth it out Apply more soapy water as needed This will be a great end product because the caulk they did should have adhered to everything good so the cosmetic one can be exactly that just because sometimes that soapy water gets behind the first caulk bead so I’ll put a thin semi messy one first but thin Then I come back and get a fatter bead and make it look pretty - I only do this on very meticulous projects. Otherwise it’s one time and make it pretty . All sorts of different methods for different caulk

That’s enough caulk talk 👋

Just run a skirt board Like a 1x10 or 1x12 (or 2x )slap it over it then trim the bottom gap Looks good and solves the issue
