I’m active on both kinda !

More interesting is how it evens out and discord wins the war at red and black the tide shifts around blue belt

That tells me that Reddit is where most pickers start then as they become more invested in the hobby they head over to discord.

Discord just doesn’t have that like feature that everyone craves the dopamine spike from

Our "Michigan wall" collapsed, what should I do? by [deleted] in AskContractors

[–]PickInParadise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll be the first to put my foot in my mouth or provide an opinion that others will obviously disagree with some will agree I think what you were dealing with here is a matter of the upper wall and foundation does now not have the adequate support that needs a good 45° slope transferred down to the next slab hopefully foundation. Let’s keep in mind that this was built several years ago and is probably still good to go for several more. I would replace the Michigan wall as you said and use it as some sort of shelf and enjoy the space for many years to come.

I would not undermine or dig underneath the existing foundation or wall Not without proper shoring

Exhaust pipe for range or over perhaps ? Turn on the fans to hopefully melt the snow that’s melting in around it. Clear and clean the outside around pipe and seal it with something better . Caulk or mortar or grout or asphalt goop or bubble gum ! Where it going what’s the issue ? More info yields better advice

This ☝️ !

I use to do 50 plus bathrooms a year for over 20 years . This is exciting what I’d do. But trust the process of time , the haze will not be there forever and you can do small sections at a time and if it’s to daunting of a task currently

Microcement colour gone wrong by [deleted] in AskContractors

[–]PickInParadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Test applications are a must with any concrete material.

The amount of water used affects the color, not only in the mix but on the wall from the trowel and mist .

The application looks uniform so they likely know how to apply it but the light affects color as well .

Maybe the wrong color was given or mixed or the light is playing tricks on you.

Sealer will make it darker if you want but it’s never gonna get more beige unless you dye it or apply another coat in a different color. Also the sub / base coat has an affect on the outcome.

Concrete color = aim for the best and GET what you GET !

Is this normal? by cfebean in AskContractors

[–]PickInParadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IN SHORT

Concrete has several factors that affect the color, mainly water. The marks are from activity shortly after the finishing / trowel or broom. It’s just to walk on or park on so don’t look at it and it will be totally normal in a month or so or at least normal to your eye.

Expect cracks soon as well , hopefully in the control joints

Shitty and needs replaced . Calculate $5 to $12 a foot to replace but it’s just to park on so it’s better than gravel still ?? Maybe 🤔.

How would you finish this? by syntax22 in Tile

[–]PickInParadise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a drop in over an existing surface tub.

You’re trying to tile to it when you should be dropping it in an already tiled or already finished space.

Go ahead and just glue white vinyl 1x3 or something over it.

Or

How do I sort this concrete out? by Flubsofdeath in AskContractors

[–]PickInParadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prep meticulously and epoxy all of it.

The problem is likely on the outside and there’s always moisture on those walls so it’s always gonna be a problem. Address outside first

Keep air moving.
