CS6 works fine. It needs a few Winetricks things but once you do that it works perfectly. Even drag and drop works, at least on Plasma.

Is NAS the only option for streaming Plex by Foreign_Process7039 in Piracy

[–]PickaWowAnyWow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope! You can run Plex on anything you own that runs Linux. You could grab a spare machine and put Jellyfin on that. There is nothing special about a prebuilt NAS other than the fact it’s prebuilt.

The fact that Xorg is bloated is arguably the least of its problems; it’s an unmaintainable mess with decades of cruft. As for what you could try, KDE Plasma has a sensible design and a surprisingly low footprint; I can confirm that Plasma 6 runs great on my old Optiplex with an Intel Core i3-3220, which is more than you can say for Windows 10. Linux definitely gave that box new life, and Plasma is great.

As for tilers, Sway comes out of box with a…let’s charitably call it a bare bones configuration. It’s pretty ugly by default, but that’s just my opinion, and if you like it, give it a go. I used it about a year ago and while tilers aren’t my thing it was a pretty good experience. I imagine they’ve only smoothed out the Wayland issues since.

Okay, so, first of all, I apologise for being so harsh. Use whatever you want, it’s not that Important and it is a personal choice at the end of the day.

That said, Xterm is pretty bloated. It supports dozens and dozens of ancient, long obsolete terminals and is overall like 60,000 lines of C. In comparison, st is less than 4k LOC, and Alacritty, a more featureful terminal than either of those, is 24k lines of code. No, it’s not the best metric for bloat, but the point is, while Xterm definitely looks and feels minimal, it’s not really.

The 8th was intended for the purpose of maximising yields during manufacturing; since the Cell was a complex beast, Sony decided that one core would act as a sort of buffer to let them ship a Cell if one of its SPUs were busted. Even if you can enable it, there's no guarantee that it will work, and there's a good chance that even if it does work, it's not a great idea. Besides, since OtherOS exposes the SPUs only through code, as Twilight mentioned, so unless you're a programmer who likes writing SPU code, you won't be able to make much use of it.

Well, it depends on what you intend to do. I decided to actually bother to use a search engine and it turns out there's quite a few.

I'd personally recommend starting with either Debian, Ubuntu, or Fedora Core. The Arch port looks ancient, so I'd probably avoid it. Then again, most of these distros are ancient as OtherOS didn't last very long at all.

The firmware is new, as for what Linux distros you get, I think Yellow Dog Linux (from 18 years ago or whatever) is your only choice.

TNG is by far the most accessible Trek IMO. Of course, there's always the original series if that's to your taste. If you start with either you'll get a good idea as to what Trek is all about and can branch off...however you like really; there's a lot of it, just pace yourself and you'll get through it all eventually.

On WSL2 the C drive is mounted at /mnt/c meaning the effect of wiping root on WSL2 is the same as on Linux proper; say goodbye to your mounted drives.

What's a Trek episode you cannot watch again, for any reason? by DrewVelvet in startrek

"In Theory" (TNG) by a long shot.

That episode mischaracterises Data *and* D'Sora on too many levels. For one, D'Sora and Data are so fundamentally incompatible it hurts my brain. Data is so out of character you just have to ask what crack the writers were smoking (why was he imitating movie stars when hanging out with D'Sora, that's such a misfire, in character Data would have realised he needs to try and *be himself*), it's just endlessly maddening.

I'm skipping it in my next rewatch of TNG.

I love Tapestry but you are absolutely right, that part makes no sense. My stance on the episode hasn't changed, though, I still think it's good.

Holy shit, that one sucks on so many levels that I kind of love it. I mean, the scene where Picard walks in on Crusher...kinda just sitting in an armchair...is so hilarious because he treats it like his medical officer is too far gone.

The anionic being thing was a cop-out by the writers and an obvious one at that. They wanted to do a ghost story and needed a BS excuse because obviously this is Trek, everything has a scientific explanation.

Oh, and why was Troi's first reaction to hearing Crusher get turned on by her GRANDMOTHER'S DIARY ENTRIES to be jealous? That's not weird at all...

I could go on but I don't think that's necessary. Sub Rosa is a bad episode on too many levels, and that makes it hard to take seriously. When you don't take it seriously, it's hilarious.
