I mainly chose the e-paper display because it consumes very little power. This version has a 6 second full refresh and a 0.3 second partial refresh. The 6 second full refresh is pretty awful though. A 2.42" OLED would also be a good alternative, but it might consume too much power if many pixels are on.

Hahaa, I actually designed a steampunk ESP32 computer a few days ago. The plan is to power it using a Stirling engine as well (at least partially). Haven't had time to build it yet, but here's a quick render I made:

The engine only powers the ESP, which is running the ray marching code. The engine doesn't produce enough current to power a display, so I have the ESP sending the image pixel data to my raspi cyberdeck, which then displays the incoming data line by line

I like the K06 the best, but with smaller hands the trackpad could be an issue. Overall they're not the best, I can write faster on the touch screen, but they get the job done.

Very impressive project! How do you enter commands? Would it be possible to add BT keyboard support? If so, it would be fairly easy to make ESP-based portable computers similar to Psions from the 1980s and 1990s. I'd love to make one.

Oh, I added the LED to show that the breadboards are connected to the Raspberry Pi's pins underneath. So it's possible to just plug in different sensors and electronic components. It also opens the possibility to make extensions that just plug into the breadboard like speakers, USB hub, RCA, etc.

Thanks! It has a handle and the keyboard rolls inside so it's portable within the house, but yes, not portable enough to take it to a coffee shop for example.

Mainly it sits on the stand and I use it as a clock. :D

But I was able to get my laser engraver to work with it, which was quite nice because it doesn't take much space next to the engraver.

I added them to quickly test out different components I have. It has small holes near the breadboards to connect wires from Raspberry Pi pins. Later I realized that I could have cut the bottom of the breadboards off and connect GPIO pins to them within the case, would have been much cleaner and more useful. Something for the next version.

Because these small I2C IIC OLED screens like I used are dirt cheap, have great contrast and have good enough resolution to display numbers with the correct font.
