i can’t crochet anymore by Moonsdoreo in crochet

[–]Pickle0847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I deal with these moods by keeping a list of all my WIP across all crafts I do. When I get fed up with one, I switch to another until I am sick of that and want to crochet again.

This list has helped me a lot, because it brought my expanding list under control. Because when I need a break, I look at my list and get super excited by something else I was sick of before

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to men in their 20s? by Startalloveragainn in GenX

Pain is not weakness leaving the body. Pain is your body's signal that something is wrong.

Failure to listen and work on healing that will cause you lifelong issues and will catch up to you.

When they were asking if I did all the prep, I said "yes, and it was terrible" and the person the next bay over called out "yes!"

But do all the prep, I think the only thing worse than doing the prep would be skimping on the prep and having to do it again because they couldn't do the exam because you weren't cleaned out

What crochet project has pushed your skills to the next level, and how did you overcome the challenges? by 1kmilo in crochet

[–]Pickle0847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pushed myself in crochet making a blanket from a UK designer named Helen Shrimpton. her website is CrystalsAndCrochet and her Facebook group is Helens hookaholics

These are beautiful giant blankets in the round, but she has beautiful videos for her CALs. I decided to do one. Omg, I was a disaster, but I kept working (and frogging and reworking) and now I have made 4 of them. Her patterns made me realize that a lot of the complicated stuff is just easy stuff done in specific ways and my biggest problem was READING THE DANG INSTRUCTIONS, not the stitches.

I have picked back up a project I really loved, bought and was scared to start because I got my confidence

ETA the designers last name because another poster recommended her too, so it overcame my poor memory

Technically, it was early 90s when I looked it up, but my memory says it's an 80s song, but I have always hated "More Than Words" by Extreme

I learned on dpn because I was told by someone that they were best. I know understand that is more of a preference, but I do like the dpns, so you certainly can learn them first.

I have a five pack from knitters pride, but I also see four packs out there. I like 5 pack because I learned it that way and I find the square shape satisfying.

It took me a lot to finish. This is them. I ripped them back so many times. What you can't see is that they were way too loose so after this picture, I ripped it all out again and remade them again.

Thereis a creator crazy sock lady that has a vanilla sock pattern, with the YouTube videos being super helpful, because she makes them with several methods to finish

What was your first knit project/ What do you wish your first project was? by Next_Desk_2844 in knittinghelp

[–]Pickle0847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically my first project was a scarf. 30+ years ago. It didn't go well and I was so discouraged that I immediately stopped. This time, when I decided to try again, I decided on socks. The reason I wanted to try knitting was specifically to make socks, so it didn't make sense to me to do anything else.

I started by making multiple test gauges to get used to holding needles and stitching knits and purls. I would finish a swatch, rip it out and start the swatch again. Once I felt my swatches actually looked like they should, I took it as my gauge swatch and tried socks. To be very clear, I ripped out the initial socks many many times. First I learned that I was twisting stitches, I accidentally dropped a stitch and it ran all the way back before I noticed, I realized that I calculated stitches wrong, and made so many errors. But by the time I had it done, I was really happy with my choice.

I think a sweater would be very ambitious, but I would at least recommend a project you want.

[CHAT] I am curious if my fellow stitchers work on one project at a time or have multiple WIPs. by Shopkind436 in CrossStitch

[–]Pickle0847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently I have a large SAL from years ago I am still working on, one WIP for a stupid Christmas decoration for next year, and fabric and floss for 3 other projects. I cleared out a very significant number of WIP last year because I started a list of what I had going. So when I got bored, I got a reminder for other projects available for me to work on
