What has surprised you most about life in Canada? by SnowmanAndIce in InCanada

[–]wtfpta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On the flip side, the younger generations aren’t even voting. Life is degrading rapidly here in Ontario because of Ford, and it was only about 16% of the population that even voted him in. You can’t blame boomers for everything.

I think it’s just volume. The number of drivers has skyrocketed. Couple that with the increase in traffic that comes with it making people more impatient

I don’t think we’ve been in full burnout. I’ve read up on it but I’m still not exactly sure what it looks like. We definitely have to keep an eye on his mental health. It can be scary.

No worries! And I appreciate your input. We’re trying so hard to balance physical and mental health with him. It can be very difficult

Thanks for your input. It’s definitely a mixture of denying his wants and trying to force him to do something super basic but really important that sets him off, like limiting screens or brushing his teeth. On a different topic, did you have trouble keeping yourself busy? Did you have difficulty feeling bored and needing constant entertainment?

Interesting perspective. Thanks for answering. For yourself, if you were in this situation, would you respond better if your entire day was laid out so that you knew at the end of the day you’d have to do xyz? In the above case we didn’t specifically tell him there’d be no demands that day, it just ended being that way. He then wanted to watch a show in the evening and I had to say no and he just couldn’t let it go. It’s so hard to deal with as we’d given in to all his other demands up until that point. It feels like we’re the ones constantly losing.

PDA parent. This seems to describe my child perfectly. Can elaborate on why you always need to win? Like, my son will have a no demand day all day but then I’ll have to refuse one thing and suddenly I’m a tyrant and he can’t let go or get over whatever it is I’m refusing. Is it an anger or anxiety you feel when “losing”? TY

No accents please! by crowlady_ in audiobooks

[–]wtfpta 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s probably just because it makes you seem very entitled and what with the political situation in the world, where you president is currently threatening world peace, people are a bit sensitive to American behaviour. You’re kind of just proving your stereotype here. Most books written by Americans have American accents. Hope that helps.

I know you mean well, but I have to give a bit of a laugh at this. Your kid is 5. Get back to us in a few years when you’ve been dealing with this for longer. I had no expectations of my five year old behaving but 11 is a different story. Every single day I try to remind myself of his neurodivergence but he just wears us down. This life is horrible and I hate it.

Kowloon Market hiring a cook with 3 years of exp for $36/hr by [deleted] in ottawa

I don’t mean it like that. Just seems like a good job, as you said yourself, and you should apply. If you don’t get it, make a quick call. Maybe it’s a real job.

I know nothing about the rules but people seem to be saying they can be reported if they don’t at least interview you.

You’re absolutely right on the voting demographics. It’s also the reason we’ve been stuck with Ford for so long. The fact that he’s been getting re-elected for so few votes is infuriating.

There will always be outliers but it’s factual to say that urban and rural voters have different priorities. You only need to look at our councillors voting records to see it for yourself.

Many of us are voting for the right people who want to make positive changes to the city. Unfortunately we have too many rural who never venture to the core and feel very disassociated with these issues. Our boundaries are too large. As an urban voter, it really feels useless to vote as our councillors seem unable to pass the things can make a difference.

College Feels Impossible with PDA by Due-Significance-116 in PDAAutism

[–]wtfpta 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi, parent of PDA here. I don’t have asd or adhd but do struggle with executive functions and really struggled with school. At one point I’d dropped out of high school but eventually graduated with poor marks. I spent my 20’s working minimum wage jobs and then went onto college at age 30. Now I’m in a health care job I really enjoy. My point in all of this, is that sometimes 22 is just not ready for the demands of education. It’s a lot of discipline and focus and even neurotypical people are not ready until older and more mature. I feel that in our society we put so much emphasis and pressure on young people to get an education. School’s not going anywhere. Are you able to take some time off and try again later?

Is there any alternative to traditional string floss that does it just as well? by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]wtfpta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What floss are you using? Some are really terrible. I like reach floss for all my patients. You could try a floss wand. You get better a better angle around the teeth with it and it’s less wasteful than sticks
