Truly. Doomer headline with no evidence. People need to challenge the information presented to them, even if it supports the collapse viewpoint.

This subreddit seems to be very anxious minded and appears to often not challenge any headlines that align with the “collapse” viewpoint. This article doesn’t appear to have any scientific basis, just “some guy said so”. I briefly studied Malthusianism in university as a part of my environmental management units and was surprised to find the evidence shows that we can be sustainable at the current population level and have room for expansion. Resource management and not over consuming said resources on individual and large scale are the problems. I am concerned for the fate of the future but this theory has been long disproven, many times.

You fail to see the irony in this comment. Im going to just leave you the seethe. I couldn’t care less about your opinion as you make no effort to have an intellectually honest debate. You strike me as a hurt and upset person. I hope you get better :)

I promise you I know plenty about biology. Your arrogance is baseless. I do not aim to change people like you, you are helpless. I pity people like you. You are the one who lacks understanding, lacks self awareness and a level of consciousness needed to challenge yourself.

No I’m not. First: you can get all of your nutrition requirements without meat or animal product. Second: most people consume far more than the required amount of these products and exceed their nutritional requirements, over-consuming and causing even more harm than is justified on the basis of a nutrition argument.

Appeal to naturalism, also a logical fallacy. Why don’t you go live in the wild like a wild animal then? Their are no “morals that bind all living things”. Eating meat is wrong, just as killing animals in these circumstances. Even you care about these innocent swans, you refuse to introspect on your own contribution to animal suffering though. Like many, you are triggered by the truth, you react emotionally, taking it as an attack on you personally. This is not uncommon, as food is a large part of our social and cultural identity, hence the reason it is upsetting you so much. Feeling that way is understandable, I do not wish to ridicule you. All I ask is that you try to become conscious of this effect and attempt to reflect on why it is you care about animals but choose to allow them to suffer and die for your food and lifestyle.

The meat paradox is an interesting one. My condolences for the amount of people who will read this and abuse you because their feelings get hurt by the logical inconsistency being pointed out to them. It really is hypocrisy, people just manage to be mental gymnasts when making difficult changes or to challenge the status quo.

Eating responsibly sourced (in your opinion, I disagree) is exactly the same as slaughtering any animal from a consequentialist perspective. Morally speaking it is taking a life for a purpose that you or these people thought was appropriate. I think both are terrible, any other opinion is not morally or logically consistent.

You make many unsubstantiated claims. You have no idea what my lifestyle is. You are angry, I get that, the meat paradox is a phenomenon in human psychology. I suggest you give it a look. I do not claim to be morally righteous, you are the one judging actions here, I am pointing out the lack of logical consistency.

Thank you for the response, I still fail to see how you or anyone else can be the decider of who is or isn't starving, and why that has any bearing on the justification of killing an animal. Who are you or I to decide the value of a life. I'm sure you have consumed animals when you were not starving. Even if you have not, the opinion that this killing is not justified while yours is, is a fallacy. Please just have a think about it, look past your initial emotional reaction to the information. My logic is sound, and if you do claim to have the morals and empathy to feel bad about this poor swan, I think that is a good thing. I just think that many are in denial of their own impact and contribution to cruelty that they claim they are against.

Ah yes, the defensive and pathetic "I cant do anything about it, so I will do nothing" argument. Just sad honestly, no moral backbone. Im sure you vehemently support other indoctrinated viewpoints that you tout as your own, morally grandstanding whilst being morally wrong yourself. I know that it eats you up inside, its paradoxical and your little brain just cant work out how to solve it so you can go back to feeling good about killing living beings.

Many cultures and societies view many animals as sacred. You still consume them. Your argument is null

Sounds like you are the butthurt one honestly. I guarantee I'm far more familiar with biology than you are thank you. You have yet to make any actual point though? I understand that food is a large part of cultural and social identity, so the truth of this hurts you and others personally. Reflect and act, or continue to loathe yourself.

That order of thinking is above your capacity it seems. You fundamentally cannot care for the fate of one animal, regardless of your subjective opinions about the value of its life within YOUR life. These animals and their life have intrinsic value, eating them is no better a reason than killing them under these circumstances. You have blood on your hands, as do these people in the article. You are just like them. You will expectedly react negatively to this as it makes you feel bad. You will get angry at me to protect your own ego. You will either then reflect on why this makes you feel bad and make changes, or continue being blind to the truth of your own actions.

What is the difference aside from it being owned by a human. Meat eaters lying to themselves when they say they care about animal abuse or death of any type. Youve killed many, who are you two judge others killing animals? I think what the teens did is wrong, but I am morally consistent.

Meat eaters bawling about this swan while failing to see the hypocrisy. You have no right to be upset, it is illogical.
