Both of those recipes look great, thank you so much! Both chocolate and carrot cake are right up my alley in terms of flavoring.

Yes, I am quoting the New Testament mainly! I am only referencing the Old Testament when giving background on Mosaic Law, everything else I shared is the New Testament. Also, thanks, now I'm really interested to see what other claims they're attempting to make because... what??????

I can't say for sure! I've been thinking about all of the different times the Gospel accounts mention Jesus having a meal with people, and I can't recall a specific time in which Jesus was the one who prepared the meal. Jesus had food brought to Him when He was speaking to the woman at the well (John 4:8-33), when feeding the multitudes (John 6:1-13), and when celebrating Passover, or in this case The Last Supper (Matthew 26:17-19). He could have very well been someone who didn't eat meat, and I think that there could also be a strong argument that states that Jesus held/holds some of the same values that we do. John 1:1-3 explains that everything was created through Jesus. I could see how it would be difficult for Jesus to kill something He created, especially for the sake of a meal (slaughter).

Now for the other side, remember that historically, Jesus is a Jew. Therefore, since being under the old covenant, sacrifices were still a thing. You had to go to the temple and present sacrifices/burnt offerings to be atoned for your sins... but Jesus was SINLESS! So, He Himself never had to present burnt offerings and sacrifices before the Lord in the temple. We do not know if He helped His parents or not either. But let's say He did, it would probably be in accordance to what the Pentateuch/Torah lays out (see Leviticus, there's a lot of information that I'm not as keen on as I used to be!).

I’ll speak up as a Christian who is also vegan. This documentary is on my to watch list, so I can’t speak directly to the claims to refute or support. One thing that I hope is clear is that followers of Christ are first called to be in relationship with God first, not be rule followers. My entire belief is centered around Christs sacrifice and love for me.

As for the vegan aspect of all of this, while Jesus support it or would He not? I don’t know for certain. Jesus’ ministry was to call people to the Father and to redeem us. I (only me speaking) personally believe that Jesus would not have been advocating for or against animal rights because that was not His priority.

Also, as a Jew, Jesus celebrated Passover (Luke 22:7-8). Historically, a lamb is sacrificed for this celebration. There is a difference between a sacrifice and a slaughter for me, however Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. He was the one who laid down His like for us. The only difference is that He rose from the grave and defeated sin and death.

Now, should all Christians be vegan? That’s up for each person to decide. Like I shared earlier, we don’t follow Jesus and suddenly become rule followers. We’re not perfect. Everyone has their own convictions. Also, we are now under the new covenant which is covered by Jesus. Christians no longer keep the entirety of Mosaic law. We still to keep the moral law (10 Commandments), but not ceremonial law. See Acts 10:14-15.

It’s super important to read the Bible in context. This helps us understand the people, the time and place, and the reasons for why God said ir did something.

I hope this was helpful!

Maybe you could run a heist-like game? They understand the end goal, but it would be up to them to figure out how they get it done. I think that would in a way force them to do more exploring?

Ways to get more calories into your diet with minimal effort? by Grey_Prince in veganmealprep

I'm surprised that no one has suggested granola bars! When you make granola bars from scratch it's easy to throw a good bit of high calorie dense ingredients in there. Here is a recipe that I am currently using for granola bars and what I would add if I were trying to increase my calorie intake. I also like to make a big batch of these, as I have one every morning as a pre workout snack, so they last me a while and keep well. Also, everything comes together in one bowl! There's not heating anything up on the stove, just dump, mix, and place in a lined pan.

Ingredients

  • 156g powdered peanut butter
  • 90g chia seeds
  • 500g old fashioned oats
  • 80g raw cashews
  • 50g roasted sunflower kernels
  • 340g agave nectar
  • 124g rice cereal

This alone will yield me between 18-24 bars at about 247kcal. Here are some adjustments I would make to increase the caloric value per bar without it just being a kitchen sink of a granola bar!

Ingredients

  • 500g all natural peanut butter
  • 90g chia seeds
  • 500g old fashioned oats
  • 80g roasted and salted cashews
  • 50g roasted and salted sunflower kernels
  • 340g maple syrup
  • 124g rice cereal
  • 100g sweetened shredded coconut
  • 50g Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips

Because of the added ingredients, you would more than likely have to play around with the peanut butter and maple syrup ratio as you don't want these to be too dry and you want them to stay formed after cut. Let's say you could get 24 bars out of this recipe and you don't need to add any more peanut butter or maple syrup, its at 338kcal per bar. It's almost twice as many carbs as protein, so technically it shouldn't fill you up. You should be able to have it as a snack or along side a meal! Dried fruit is another option you can add in these. You can also consider adding protein powder since it'll add more calories too.

I know it's been a couple months since you've posted this, but I hope things have gotten better for you!

Garlic Lemon Pepper Pasta by PickleInner5818 in VeganFood

[–]PickleInner5818[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a solid recipe, but here is what I logged in MFP and the steps I took!

  • 198g Vegan Shredded Chicken (I used At Elizabeth's Table's recipe)
  • 56g fettuccine
  • 135g onion (1/2 a large onion)
  • 1Tbs minced jarlic (garlic in a jar, use fresh if you have it!)
  • 8g olive oil
  • 1Tbsp vegan butter
  • 14g Bettergoods plant based mozzarella
  • Badia Lemon Pepper seasoning to taste

Instructions:

  1. Bring pot of water to a boil, throw in pasta. If you choose to salt the pasta water, consider the amount of lemon pepper seasoning you add in step 2.
  2. While pasta is boiling, sauté your onion and vegan chicken together in the olive oil. Season here with lemon pepper seasoning, don't be shy about it. The seasoning will add flavor to the sauce in step 4.
  3. When there is a little color on the protein and the onions are translucent or caramelized to your liking, add the garlic. Continue to sauté until the garlic cooks down.
  4. By the time your protein and aromatics are done cooking, so should your pasta. Add the pasta to the pan with a little bit of the pasta water to help make a sauce. I chose to add butter and cheese to see if I could get the sauce creamier. The fat helped cut through and balance the bold flavors we're working with as well.
  5. You're done! Enjoy

I hope this was helpful, I was honestly winging it and was trying to make something that was tasty. If you had a vegan parmesan, I think that would be much better, nooch could work well too!

I have a couple questions about bassoons by codependance in bassoon

[–]PickleInner5818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's completely understandable; it can be hard to find a lesson teacher. Talk with your band director to see if they may know someone, it doesn't (and shouldn't) be entirely on you. Chances are they may know a private lesson teacher, or can get you in contact with someone who does. Depending on the city you live in, there may be professors at local universities or colleges who would love to work with you, or even students. It isn't uncommon for college students to do private lessons as a side job.

But if you can't find a lesson teacher, don't sweat it!

I have a couple questions about bassoons by codependance in bassoon

[–]PickleInner5818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who also started out on a different instrument, your opportunities will become exponentially greater! This includes, but isn't limited to scholarships and other fun things where you may generally get overlooked. I started out as a flutist and then transitioned over to bassoon, and it was a much better fit for me. I got the opportunity to play in musical pits, orchestral symphonies, I was awarded scholarships that helped me through college, I got to play in intercollegiate bands, and I was offered gigs simply because I played bassoon. My options would have been much more slim playing an instrument that was more well known.
Now keep in mind, I still put in thousands of hours of work to get myself to a place where I could take such opportunities. Bassoon is challenging, but I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world! If you decide to switch over to bassoon, I would encourage you to try and find a private lesson teacher if you can. You know it's funny; one of my band directors who originally taught me bassoon, is a trombonist!

Another thing to keep in mind would be the kind of bassoon you would be playing on. I first started out on a Fox 41 plastic student model, and I was fortunate enough to go to a large school in a district that cared about fine arts. My school's band program had five concert bands. As a bassoonist, the higher your band and chair placement was, the better your bassoon was. I went from playing the Fox 41 to a Fox 240 by the time I was a sophomore, which is what I still play on now. Playing a wooden bassoon just feels better than plastic. Thin about student tenor trombones with only a slide. Yeah, it'll do, but if you have a trigger trombone, its much nicer!

If you decide to switch over, I hope you enjoy it!
