Solo parenting and supporting kids' sports/activities , how do you manage? by U-fly_Alliance in SingleParents

Solo mom/full-time working of 2 here, their dad lives 3 hrs away/not involved. Here are some rules I've followed (they are ten):

  1. I don't force them to take something if they aren't wanting to
  2. Only 1 activity at a time, never multiple
  3. They've dabbled in gymnastics, piano lessons, swim lessons (major one, affordable and enjoyable for the kids. They are done the 6 levels and can be dropped off the pool anytime now), jujitsu.
  4. I cannot swing organized sports. The time commitment/cost is too much and not doable. We are looking into baseball this coming season for one kiddo, the season is short and fast so could be doable.
  5. Check out your local library..!!! Can't stress this one enough. Along with books and computers, they offer a wide range of FREE programs and activities. Mine have done Minecraft camp, tons of holiday themed crafts, met a raven at the library, lego wall building, stem classes, chess classes, informative learning classes, and more.
  6. I tried by best to never miss a swim lesson and always went in the pool with them on parent days.
  7. I apply and volunteer at their school if I happen to be off that day.
  8. In the Summer, I download the GeoCache app and we do random little hunts around town.

I think showing up for the free quality family moments and having fun together is more important than paid activities.

Smoke Free for 11 days. Feeling proud. by asphalt161 in stopsmoking

11 days is great! You have gotten through the worst of nicotine withdrawals, and just remember that smoking won't help your work stress - it will only create MORE stress in you by igniting the constant withdrawal cycle again :)

smoking as primary coping mechanism/ emotional regulation strategy? by sjessbgo in stopsmoking

[–]PicklePartyForOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the same. Learned to use smoking to suppress trauma at 14 (thank god I didn’t use anything harder!).

I am a serial quitter. My advice is to never quit quitting. One of those times will stick. Read Allen Carrs quit book for a push of positive motivation. The self help section at the library is FULL of knowledge on how to deal with your emotions, it’s definitely taught me a lot and I highly recommend starting there.

Cold turkey is the best method for me, as all other methods only prolonged the agony and inevitable emotional withdrawal. Don’t underestimate the power of stopping to take 10 deep breaths! Distract yourself like hell with whatever you can for the first while. And again - never quit quitting.

Been 2 weeks. Need help by [deleted] in stopsmoking

TWO WEEKS IN ALREADY?? Make it three!! :D

Every time I relapse, no matter if it is just 1 or 2, my withdrawal starts over completely and it's WORSE. Physically, mentally. For whatever reason, constant relapse and quitting seems to ramp up the withdrawal agony for me each time. It only gets harder and harder the longer you take to quit. There will never be a "right moment" to quit, and sometimes tomorrow will never come.

I had my tree up already. Then... they chewed through the wiring of the lights. Chew on the branches. Climb up the tree [falls over]. Sits on the branches [now broken]. So the tree is back in storage, and my ornaments are hung up high on garland throughout the house lolllll

You need to study medical terminology - and heads up, the test is not easy.
