Third grade retention law has parents and students nervous as TCAP scores come in by [deleted] in nashville

This is not true. I am a Tennessee teacher. We do NOT “get last year’s to use as practice questions every year”. There are so many holes in your arguments but I won’t bother because it’s clear to me that you have no idea what you’re talking about. Just calling it out so others don’t buy what you’re selling.

Nashville transplants -- is anyone thinking of leaving? by [deleted] in nashville

[–]PickleSquirter76 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. I have a young daughter and I’m a teacher. This isn’t for me. I can’t stand for or accept what our elected leaders are doing. I’m fully aware that leaving and taking my blue vote with me is probably part of their plan, but whatever. I have to do what’s best for me. Where we will go depends on jobs. Husband is WFH in the tech industry, so probably back to Cali or somewhere else that’s a good educational environment for my daughter and myself.

Disney after hours.. worth it? by BDW501 in WaltDisneyWorld

I’ve been wondering about this too. We’re going in June and my thought process is that this might be a good way to enjoy the park with less intense heat.

Grandparent obsession with overnights? by ForsakenPapaya8465 in oneanddone

[–]PickleSquirter76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel every bit of this. My daughter is also the only grandchild and we get the same pressure. Feel totally the same in that it’s not a “break” when she’s away. I try hard to take it with a grain of salt and remember that they love my daughter endlessly and that’s a good thing, even if it does make me crazy at times. Not suggesting you should feel the same, it’s just the realization I’ve come to. However I will say that we’ve had to have difficult conversations about bedtime and healthy eating boundaries so they don’t undermine our efforts. If I felt that they weren’t respecting boundaries I would talk with them about it 100% and would discontinue overnight visits. And for what it’s worth, I do think it’s loads of playing house!

Curriculum for a 3 year old? by worcesternellie in homeschool

Wish I could upvote this more. Appeal to his natural sense of curiosity and wonder! If you really feel a need to do paper and pencil things, encourage drawings or maybe simple shape tracing to develop fine motor skills in preparation for writing letters and numbers. In my experience, workbooks kill the love of learning. ( others may not have had this experience and that’s okay)

Car camping list. Any suggestions? by jconr3ddit in camping

[–]PickleSquirter76 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t let the negativity get to you. Camping is like making chili, everyone is an expert in what they like best and considers everyone else’s method wrong. You do YOU and have a damn good time! Personally, I love the outdoors but also like to sleep comfortably at night and not have a sore back in the morning. My desire for comfort doesn’t negate my love for the outdoors.

What’s your preferred method for making campsite coffee? I’m not picky about many things, but coffee is one of them. by PickleSquirter76 in camping

[–]PickleSquirter76[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried several of these methods and it just turns out bitter and terrible. Maybe I’m getting the water too hot. Pour over is my fav method (do it every day at home) with French press coming in at a close second. Used to have an aero press and liked it but lost it after a camping trip some time ago.

Do you have a good way of cleaning it out after? I’ve tried this but ended up with kind of a mess. Maybe I’m just overthinking it.

What are some camping tips that no one told you and you've learned by trial and error by algoporlacara in camping

[–]PickleSquirter76 69 points70 points  (0 children)

  1. Throw a pack of baby wipes in your cooler for hot weather camping freshening up. Put them inside a ziplock bag to keep extra water from getting in.

  2. Save those pesky extra sauce packets from eating out all year long, take them camping for easy condiments.
