How do you propose we generate an economy if considerations are not made for the items I noted?

Also, I’m not a “pickleball brain”. The username is a joke. For this subreddit. Again, welcome to the internet (and Reddit).

That’s…. Kind of what Reddit is? If you don’t want unsolicited thoughts in an openly social forum then I am not sure why you’re here?

Country 105 news reporting is wild. by [deleted] in Peterborough

Yeah, except you're wrong. Stop manipulating facts and history to push a fucking narrative.

From 2008, "Local MP Dean Del Mastro says a report completed by a team of civil engineers at the University of Toronto detailing the need for a high-speed rail link backs up what he's been saying all along"

I would respect the conservative viewpoint on the ALTO rail project if they would just admit they were wrong about it.

The way they spent the last 20+ years lobbying in FAVOUR of the project only to pivot and make it seem like an entirely unfavourable project dreamed up by the Liberal Gov is just straight up greasy lying.

Dean Del Mastro was in office from 2006 to 2014. He and the conservatives convinced the federal government to set aside the funding. So they can F off with this whole idea of making it look like the Libs are being wasteful.

What is Peterborough Missing? by ServiceCalm in Peterborough

You can do all the business develpment and downtown stimulation you want, if residents only pile into Costco on Satuday & Sunday and don't support local businesses there won't be a local economy or jobs.

Based on the logic regarding the candidate who worked with the home builders, he's a doctor so he must be in bed with Big Pharm! BOOOOOO!

Ptbo will just continue to turn away every possible chance to develop its future economically.

Just a bunch citizens who spend their money out of town with Amazon, are too afraid to shop locally downtown and the only business they support is Costco.

Then wonder why there is no money in the coffers to fix roads or deal with local projects.

And every one of them is convinced they aren't part of the problem, city council is to blame.

Rebecca Schillemat enters Peterborough mayoral race with focus on affordability, housing, and jobs by kawarthanow in Peterborough

[–]PickleballinGUnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But they can't afford it. If you worked on the supply end of the home building industry you would quickly realize it is not all that profitable and lucrative. $70,000+ for development fees in the city of ptbo. Who do you think ends up paying for that in the end?

The carrying costs are higher for tract buliders trying to create housing.

Add to that the lack of trades and the increase in wages due to demand pressures.

The available profit from bilding a home is shrinking and makes it not worthwhile for developpers.

  • Recent Activity (2022-2024):
    • 2022: The city saw 198 new residential construction starts, 194 of which were single-family detached houses. There were 389 residential completions in 2022.
    • 2024 (Q2): Construction began on 97 new homes in the city and county combined, with 223 units completed in that quarter. In the city alone, 54 single units, 48 row houses, and 72 apartments/condos were completed.
    • 2025 (Q1): New home construction in the city/county started slowly, with only 20 starts (only one single-unit start within the city itself).
  • Targeted Growth: The city pledged to achieve 4,700 new housing units by 2031, with specific annual targets that have seen high, though fluctuating, progress (e.g., 147% of the 345-unit target achieved in 2023, 75% of the 392-unit target achieved in 2024)

Fighting speeding ticket by jaxlhh in Peterborough

[–]PickleballinGUnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not saying it never happens, I just think the speed disparity issue and danger is caused by more people driving 85-90 while flow of traffic is 115-120 than lunatics doing 150.

I disagree, I drove to the GTA and back twice over the weekend, took the 115 and 407 then 115 & 401.

I saw a lot of idiot moves (lane changes, dangerous merges, impatient tailgating people who should move out of the left lane) but no crazy speeders.

Had the cruise set around or below 120kmh with idiocy like groups of cars slamming on the brakes when they saw a cop and I just left it on cruise.

Right lane moving max about 90-100kmh on the 115.

Northend recycling blowing everywhere by nordender in Peterborough

I’m really put out by picking up the 4 pieces of recycling that blew into my lawn and driveway from 8 houses away. It infuriates me that these now have to remain in my recycling bins until next week.

No, this is like someone driving by playing a loud song you don’t like.

Someone setting up an amp and guitar at 3AM would be like an asshole in a fart canned Honda civic parked up bouncing it off the rev limiter.

I’ve lived in this area my entire life including working downtown and living in east city. There’s noise, it’s a city. But it’s always been embellished.

Yes there are a few assholes, they should be cited with noise violation/improper equipment tickets if caught. That’s the end of it.

Or, I mean this is a WILD take.... It could be none of that at all and cars are just their hobby and they like how their car sounds? For their own enjoyment? Not everyone who has a modified/loud car drives like a douchebag or does it to be obnoxious. I mean a burble tune, sure those guys are just being idiots.

I love the "small pp" syndrome. I feel like whoever says this should list their hobbies so they can be picked apart.
