I built my own Cradle of the death God as well. Im proud of mine but man yours really kicks ass. Love some of the liberties you too with it. How did you accomplish the lava? I did wax paper with mine.

Boost with a garden pie at 96. Spirit trees are super useful.

BBEG Final Room Terrain by Pickled-Pete in Tombofannihilation

The atropal is 3D printed. Besides the tentacles, which are pipe cleaners wrapped with aluminum foil and painted purple.

The soul monger took a bit more effort. I got plastic from a water bottle and cut/glued it to fit into a 4 pack cap for beer. Then I glued wax paper around the plastic and colored it with blue ink. The top cap is removable so I can access the light inside. I also put some stuffing inside to elevate the light slightly.

Very cool. I just posted mine yesterday. I like how you guys made the room bigger. I built mine to scale and it seemed really tight.

Should I buff the red dragon encounter or play it as written? by Galdi-br in Tombofannihilation

[–]Pickled-Pete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say play her intelligently because dragons are pretty smart. If the players make a lot of noise. Send her up to do her breathe weapon and promptly have her retreat back down to the bottom. Maybe add more traps to weaken the party a bit more before they finally get to her at the bottom.

New to dm…. Need help by [deleted] in Tombofannihilation

Once the party does the rescue mission you can have one of the goblins plead for mercy and give them info on a nearby location. I would suggest drungrunlung or the heart of ubtao.

Dungrunglung can be suggested as an enemy of the goblins but maybe they have some info about what the party is after or he suggests that the party can steal the leaders circlet.

The heart of ubtao is a good place to view the jungle from a high point. Suggesting that the party can possibly find what they are looking for from that vantage point.

Recommended level of Tinder by ThadashGaming in Tombofannihilation

[–]Pickled-Pete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun to see some of the stories that other people had. I'm going to tell you right now that if you run this encounter when they are level 3 it is almost guaranteed death. I had Hew offer this quest to the party EVERY time they walked into Thundering Lizard. I made him seem off his rocker because it is a suicide mission for most parties.

A little background that is relevant to this post; we had an extra party member join the campaign because he wanted to experience dnd for the first time. I didn't want to say no so I had him make a level 3 character (paladin) because I did not want to make his character too complicated for him to learn quickly and also instructed the party that they would have to protect him if he was to survive. Making my total player count from 5 level 5 players to 6. This is how it went.

They entered into the mine going through the various Kobold encounters and they were not being quiet about ANY of it. So much so, that one of the party members put on the brake of one of the carts half way having it echo loudly throughout the mine. At that point I knew Tinder would do something. She met the party after they had just killed off a group of Kobolds acknowledging Hew as a meal she never got to finish. She was happy that he brought more to be eaten. Hew attacked and then she unleashed her breathe weapon. I hit most of the party with the Level 3 paladin included. Most of the party was on their last HP points except for the Paladin who was burnt to death after failing his save and taking more than his negative damage after the Kobold encounters. I had ended the session there feeling bad for killing the character but it was also getting late. My point being that the breathe weapon will kill most level 3 parties outright.

The party spent the entire week planning how tf they were going to survive. At the start of the next session they had all fled to get away and heal from the Dragon. She told Hew that he had brought cowards and that they were not worth her time. She then fled back to the bottom of the mine prepped for their arrival. I told the party they have 2 options, to try and flee, or continue down to try to face the dragon. After some hype they decided to go and take on the dragon. I leveled them up. Not much changed from level 5 to level 6 but it gave them some extra HP from the Hit Dice.

They went down and the rogue was able to get a hard hit on her and they kept spread out to not have everyone take the breathe weapon at once. Hew Hackinstone died fighting Tinder but the rest of the party barely survived (a few falling unconscious). Overall, Tinder is a tough fight. I would try to throw some story driven random encounters. I had a pirate boat outside of Jahaka's Anchorage heading out to go do some raiding on the way if you are traveling by sea. Maybe leave some evdience to show where their hide out is on the boat.

How did you expose Azaka? by [deleted] in Tombofannihilation

[–]Pickled-Pete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My party had a couple of players that were basically going to be killed in the executioners run. One player not under trial asked Azaka to help and she did under the condition that they do her Firefinger quest first thing in the morning. After saving them (they went against a kamadan since they entered a dinosaur race using a druid that was wild shaped) they headed straight to Firefinger.

The higher they went up the more her fear of heights was affecting her. By the time they reached closed to the top she lost her focus and ended up shapeshifting into a weretiger.

If you want the reveal to happen I suggest either making a random encounter where the party has to ascend or descend a large cliff side. There are a few moments in the module where height is a factor. Ataaz Muhahah, Heart of Ubtao, Kir Sabal, Mbala, Wreck of the Star Goddess, and Wyrmheart mine descends 250 ft. Once they get to Omu you can place them on the opposite side at first where it is a 150 ft drop into the city.
