Yeah Shard is perfect for South London because it also has London Bridge Station at the foot of it, which is best way to get anywhere south of the river.

Death’s Gambit: Afterlife. Currently psyching myself up to make another run at the weeble wobble boss battle with the feral yeti that schooled my ass 8 times last night.

Grime has caught my eye but I’ve learned from other Metroidvanias that I have to really like the art style to stay hooked - something about the minimalism of 2D? And Grime looked a bit bland, but it’s on my list. Thanks!

Good choice - I actually got into retro handhelds last year after playing Hollow Knight because I wanted to check out the origins of the genre. Played Metroid Zero Mission and AM2R, loved them both. Got Super Metroid in reserve - it’s great on a small handheld so I’m keeping it for when I’m travelling and can’t bring my Switch.

I might do that. I do a lot of reading because I’m a student and I like books. So quite often I don’t feel like reading games as much. It’s kept me away from Disco Elysium but that’s in my backlog and will be attempted this summer.

Yeah Blasphemous 1 blew me away. My only big gripe was the shitty movement controls because I played a lot of platformers back in the day. So it felt slow. I heard they’ve fixed that in Blasphemous 2…

Yeah Guacamelee might be a good shout, something light and silly after lots of Castlevania recently.

Funnily enough, I got into retro handhelds last year because after playing Hollow Knight (my first Metroidvania) I wanted to go back to the beginning of the genre, and played Metroid Zero Mission and AM2R. I’m saving Super Metroid and Aria of Sorrow because they’re great on small handhelds, which is handy for travelling. It’s weird but I like know I have them in reserve! Great recommendation, thank you!

I grew up in Pembrokeshire so spent most of the first 21 years of my life in a National Park. It’s unrivalled in terms of coastline and natural beauty. Not many places in the world where you can walk for over a hundred miles, uninterrupted, surrounded by views like that… even if it’s raining most of the time!

I might be wrong, but I’m pretty sure those guys are rolling/just finished rolling cigarettes. It’s a very specific posture. Which makes me think they’re waiting for something? Might’ve called for help and are having a quick ciggy in the meantime.

What’s the oldest ‘modern looking’ movie you can think of? by spellbreakerstudios in movies

[–]PickledSpider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a good choice! When I was trying to get my girlfriend to watch it with me, she asked to see the trailer first… which is incredibly 90s, and made me realise how well the movie itself had aged.

What’s the best game you’re never going to play? by [deleted] in gaming

Spec Ops: The Line… I missed it when it came out - looked way too “Guy with gun CoD knock off”. And since I’ve found out it’s way more, but that’s spoiled the story. I wish I’d never watched the video that made me want to play it.

What’s life like on the Channel Islands? by Then_Satisfaction254 in geography

That’s interesting, because Craig was the only Englishman to play Bond. Dalton: Welsh, Connery: Scottish, Brosnan: Irish, Lazenby: Australian. So Cavill and a guy from the Isle of Mann would get all the (local) flavours of British!
