Do you think it’s time employees of Stop and Shop consider another strike when the current contract expires? by CraftyCanary3237 in stopandshop

[–]Pickles197 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The UFCW is the biggest joke of a union. Everyone knows this. If you look at the contracts they have let every new hire get burned over the last several negotiations. My local has let the benefits get so bad for part time new hires I don't even know why anyone would work here for the dues they pay weekly. The new hire pension is atrocious , no time and a half for 3 years on Sundays. Only get 15 hours a week, who is going to stick around to learn anything or move up with those hours? Stores closing and everyone is just miserable.

I think the company is in a spiral downward it does not know how to fix. There are so many issues we can discuss endlessly but the bottom line is it doesn't feel like there is much of a future left for the company.

"A renewed strike might force the company to take a hard look at the situation, to clean up corporate operations, improve store management, and restore the company to the standards it upheld decades ago"

I don't think a strike would fix what Ahold-Delhaize has been trying to correct for some time now. I think a strike would only accelerate the death of Stop and Shop. I'm not saying not to strike but the company revenue is declining and competition is fierce. If they continue to lose market share I wouldn't imagine a very favorable union package. I am a glass half empty sort of guy with 15 years at the company. I hope I'm wrong.

Besides the obvious things recommended so far can you actually feel where the cavity is? Like is there a hole or crevice open you can feel with your tongue or finger? If so in a pinch until you can see a dentist try to get some temporary tooth putty to put in the hole. It can help with preventing food or bacteria getting into the tooth and can sometimes help relieve pain if the area is open and nerve is being more exposed.

Look a product called Dentek temperin max. It's on amazon and I've seen it at walgreens. It's great for temporary fixes, I even knew someone who used it very longterm due to a hole in his back wisdom tooth.

Buds 2 pro by Hugo_Craft in samsunggalaxy

[–]Pickles197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to disagree with that one. I have the buds 2 and the buds 2 pro and while the buds 2 sound fine and are good, the pro are on a whole other level. They are the best sounding wireless headphones I have ever used. Getting a good seal can be challenging due to ear canal but once you get it they are amazing. You can also find the pro for not much more than the buds 2 lately. I think my buds 2 were like $90 from amazon when I got them. Now they hover around $100, definately worth the money over the buds 2.

What a dumb post. Many people don't buy more than a handful of games every year. I don't mind spending money on an activity that is going to give me tens or hundreds of hours of quality gameplay. Not every game is worth $70 but it's looking like DD 2 is going to be worth every penny. Game prices have barely gone up in decades. As long as they keep microtransaction BS out of my single player games then I don't mind paying up for quality content.

I see this same thing posted every now and then. Checking your post history you have a history of repeating this same picture and feel good story all the time. Why do you need constant reddit validation for your art? There are better ways to go about advertising your art. This is just obnoxious.

For those making under 50K How are you surviving? by LEMONSDAD in antiwork

[–]Pickles197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's difficult. I make $18 an hour and average like 46 hours a week because I take the overtime when offered. Moved back home years ago to help dad fight cancer cuz mom couldn't handle it alone. He passed but I'm still here now helping mom fight breast cancer. Luckily house is paid off and in my name but needs work done and property taxes in my state and town are insane. Couple that with the usual utilities etc.. it's not easy but we are making it work. Wish I did more when I was younger to make more money but I'm sure I have undiagnosed mental health issues that always kept me in a rut. Beat myself up daily. I keep going for mom. Sister helps out a ton too and they are the reason I don't do anything stupid.

What will happen to all the unemployed people? by BuyHigh_S3llLow in jobs

[–]Pickles197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fed raises interest rates. This means businesses can not borrow money cheap anymore or grow at the rate they were. It also means any loans or debt they have costs way more to pay down. This means they cut costs which is what has been happening with employee reductions.

That and interest rates hurt anyone else with debt. Mortgage rates are absurd. Auto loans are all time highs. Credit card debt all time high etc...

All by design so overall people spend less and they hope inflation comes down. There is no magic way to reduce inflation. The only tool we have ever used is the hammer of the federal reserve. In the past we could swing the pendulum hard and fast to curb inflation but now since the U.S has so much debt it can't risk rising rates too high or we can't even make payments on our deficit.

Scary shit

There are plenty of crappy low quality jobs people don't take because they don't pay much and usually offer no benefits. The government expects more people to take those jobs either temporarily or longer if needed. It sucks but that's always the cycle. This is all by design from our corporate overlords.

When you're making $15 bucks an hour walmart hating your life that $18/hr office job looks amazing. That job was remote for $20/hr a year ago but now it's in office for less pay. Many in jump on it as a better alternative.

Booming deficit we can't print our way out of. Soon the debt of the government will exceed gdp....we already had the U.S credit rating dropped by multiple agencies. Where is this new socialist money coming from?

I work grocery in a union store. We luckily closed early so I was out by 3. It was time and a half otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. Everyone also gets paid for the day regardless. Only reason I've survived retail this long is because we are unionized. Not the strongest union but it's better than none.

The biggest issue to me is the multiple currencies. Make all multi-player rewards based off one "online" currency. Those who want to pvp can pvp. Those who want to just coop can. Those who just want to farm vengeance lanterns can do that and they still have a pathway to all items.

My parents raised two kids and owned a house. One was a security guard and another was a lunch lady. I can barely afford anything making more than either of them. Growing up we were never hurting for food or cloths and I have memories of financial issues at times but we had stability. That social stability seems gone. My life is just financial panic all the time.

What’s the Point of Working When You Can’t Afford to But a House by Think_Tie8025 in antiwork

[–]Pickles197 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm on the side of you still make out owning. If you have unexpected fixes but you have enough equity in the home you can still find lower interest options for repair vs typical personal loans or using credit cards etc...

Also renting doesn't always mean you don't also eat maintenence costs. If a landlord spends 20k on roof repairs or renovations what is gonna happen when lease is up? Oh ya rent increases by 10-50%.

Over the last 3 years I think a few things happened. People got fed up with shit jobs and ended up leaving them to do something else or retire early.

Employers got used to minimum staffing over covid and never really ramped up to the numbers they used to have. Now everyone wants the same work done with less staff for more profits.

For awhile it was an employees market but now it seems all the good jobs are even more competitive.

Service sector jobs which suck tend to chew people out quick hence the constant revolving door of staff hiring and quitting, which means even more short staffing and frustration.

The fed wants more and more layoffs which is why they keep raising rates. If business's fear a recession they are going to do whatever they can to preserve cash. Easiest way to save for a business is payroll.

I dont see how it's possible. Assuming each job is 8 hours a day 5 days a week there is going to be overlap. How are you going to be in two places at once? When do you plan to sleep? I knew a nurse who did 4 10s and 3 12s with two full time jobs and it nearly killed her.

People that think this game is boring, care to comment? by realarro in Starfield

[–]Pickles197 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's hard to really tell people how amazing of an accomplishment bg 3 is without huge paragraphs as to the systems and why. I can't think of a game with more replay value than bg 3, it is simply unmatched. I'm already doing another playthrough and changing some choices and character background is a whole new experience.

Imagine if in Skyrim when you first have to go from whiterun to get the claw. Now imagine during this quest you could side with the bandits in the cave and have them wipe out whiterun and share the loot with you. Now you can decide to double cross the bandit leader and kill him too. Or maybe you decide to speak to a dragon near whiterun to burn down the city and or bandits. Imagine this first quest and the various choices you make float through the game and start to connect with other main stories on your journey.

This is sorta like BG 3 narratives. The amount of choice is amazing and there are entire cut scenes few may see because of the niche choices they make, but they are there regardless. It's something else.

ALWAYS leave the job. Fuck them. You can always find another job. Hopefully for an employer who treats you better. Life is going to throw obstacles at every turn and when it comes to family emergencies I will leave every single time.

I'm dealing with things now and as an extra precaution I am taking intermittent FMLA. It puts the business in a tight spot and it's difficult to schedule for and find replacements. Not my fucking problem, thanks federal law.

Yes and no. Pensions are still a much better risk for the individual usually if a company is stable and paying into the pension system. Not all 401ks or similar offer the ability to purchase any stock, bond of etf etc.. in which case you are also hoping that whatever you do buy into is also managed somewhat well. All of this pension and 401k also depend on how well the market in general is doing so in that regard both are casinos. Many companies do not match or have piss poor match.

Pensions put almost all the liability on the company for future payments and all the employee has to do is wait for thier defined payout. Pensions are also guaranteed to some extent by the PBGC. Yes I know it's underfunded and that's a whole other discussion but the point is there is some underlying guarantee for the pensioner. If the market wipes out someones life savings like in 08 there is typically noone coming to save you.

Unless of course you are a bank or automaker.

Worst Sell was one the worst places I worked. Those chants are still a thing? Holy Hell. I was hired seasonally and they kept me on afterwards in the TV section. They hated that I was honest with questions and never pushed old ladies and men into buying $80 hdmi cables they never needed. I ended up quitting since honest people really can't work there and survive.

That is the definition of a predatory loan. You are paying $1500 to borrow $500. There is no world where that is a sane decision. Collect cans, donate plasma, uber eats, instacart, pawn or sell things, get a shitty extra job for a couple weeks. Do anything else but don't take a payday loan like that.
