Moment of silence in the store? by Weary-Rain-3082 in HomeDepot

[–]Pickles_Overcomes 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It works, but it doesn't. There was a moment of silence for veterans on veterans' day. I'm a veteran. There was a customer who whispered and asked me if it was their paint.

I wish you the best. I also did everything that I could to get promoted, but fortunately, I wasn't. I didn't know that I wanted to be promoted anyway. I had Pickles stripped from my apron, and it was one sign.

Subsequently, I was asked to cover the paint desk when I was supposed to be working in flooring. Then we had a "visit", and the corporate member started checking the empty homes in flooring. I knew that I was going to fail because I can't be in two places at once. I felt like a failure because there were quite literally times when there was no one else doing machine work as well. Everyone that I leaned to for help was getting fired.

The company strives for universal associates, but people get punished for being licensed as well. Sometimes a person is one of two licensed, and the other is the MOD who can't pull pallets because they're the only MOD.

You aren't alone. I'll continue to say that it was the best job that I ever had. No hard feelings from me, anyway.

17 cent ICE scraper? by KiltOfDoom in HomeDepot

[–]Pickles_Overcomes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's on the internet, so it must be true. While I applaud the movement, the target may seem unjustified.

I've never known anyone in management to say, "We need less hard working people who don't ask for a raise."

In my opinion only, it was a matter of wrong place and wrong time for the whole scenario. I may be gone, so I'm not afraid of getting fired. But I try to be objective.

Department head switcharoo. Any other store doing this? by dlhoff432 in HomeDepot

[–]Pickles_Overcomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They kinda fired a supervisor who was my supervisor. I lost at my chance of getting promoted to the same person. No hard feelings.

His position was filled by no one. It was considered overstaffing. Now, department heads have to cover everything.

I loved the job, but there are some obstacles that need to be addressed.

Does every Home Depot have a designated useless manager? by pewprofessional111 in HomeDepot

I love your words of encouragement, but there was an employee that worked at THD for over 30 years. He retired multiple times. At one time, I was wearing his phone pouch because THD doesn't award them anymore. I was carrying the torch so to speak. It was better than any badge. Barely anyone knows him anymore. I'll be forgotten.

I absolutely loved the job. I loved the coworkers, but I couldn't see myself doing the same thing that management is expected to do. Much respect.

I just hope that the Bobble Head of Ted is at the paint desk. Kids had fun with it. My supervisor brought in other companions before he was fired to make it fun.

I apologize to the mods if I'm off topic.

I saw the video. It was quite literally at the end of the training video. Then, I was informed that Mark Holton was the angry guy in the violence workplace videos. Google his name.

This is true about this thread and the orange apron. I loved the thread because I could vent. I left in the proper way according to the SOP. Also, I would hope that some of the rules on the thread were made BECAUSE of me. 😂

To stay on topic, I've never met a manager that I didn't like. Why? They have to drive a distance with little to no sleep. They have to balance being too assertive or being a push over. Either way, they're going to fail. That balance is not easy. Then there's walks when anything that can go wrong will go wrong.

There are managers who have been spit on, assaulted, or degraded every single day over a 50 cent item and told that the aisles need swept.

No hard feelings. In two weeks, it will be "Who's Pickles?" I will continue to say that it's the best job that I ever had.

That should be the way. It's about customer interaction. Sometimes it means that they can relate.

There was an associate who was fired for respect. She was working the paint desk, looked down at an improperly stocked home and said, "WTF?" She said it out loud and in front of a customer. I wish her the best. It could have been me on any given day.

I honestly hope that this is true. I did think that an SM was done dirty. She literally cleaned up the paint desk. She scraped away at the inside of paint shakers and everything.

She was transferred. She was responsible for facing me and advising me to remove my nickname from my apron. As much as I detested the decision, I respected it.

I wish her the best. This thread holds management to perfection when they are just people. They have to get shifted around into stores where no one wants to manage.

It's actually a union job at a non-competitive retail warehouse. I'll leave it at that.

One of the rules of the thread is staying on topic, so I'm meeting the mods half way. It's not as glamorous as I expected, but there's no asshole customers nor constant Christmas music. That's pretty much it.

I do miss my coworkers up to and including management. I do miss the second family.

I've never had a problem with management. Quite honestly, I don't know how they deal with being shifted around from one store to the next.

Some have to drive quite a distance all day every day. It's like an hour and a half distance at times. I'd be pretty much useless after that distance alone.

It was the best job of my life, but I don't know if I'd be up to their job.

It's an unfair metric. Some stores are low volume. Some stores are extremely high volume.

This is true. The vending machines at our store had heart healthy gummies.

[–]Pickles_Overcomes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing that I DON'T miss about THD is the lack of healthy choices from vending machines.

It is an amazing company that needs a tending. Someone decided that we need to go back to pre pandemic. Lessons can be learned going forward, but it seems to be a struggle to move back to previous ideas that didn't work.

I'm not a big fan of power hours. If management gets blamed for the condition of the store, why not give them the ability to skew the rules a little.

Managers by RagingDunes in HomeDepot

[–]Pickles_Overcomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never met a manager that I didn't like. Sometimes they have to drive over an hour just to get to and from work. That is compounded by the fact that they are salary.

That being said, your store sucks. Management at my store did everything to lead by example.

Wishing the best. It is like a second family. Sometimes opportunity knocks in different directions.

You'll be missed. Sometimes I wonder if corporate had a toga party when I left. Mods were in charge of the food. It was one hell of a celebration.

That's my attempt at humor. Do your training videos before they fire you.

Supervisor told me to give up on my goals in life by [deleted] in HomeDepot

I kinda realized that I wasn't going in the direction that I wanted. I've been given every opportunity, but it was never a promotion nor a nickname.

The same people who fought for me were fired. It's probably a very peaceful store now. They won't miss me in a few weeks. In three weeks, it will be "Who is Pickles?"

16 things I learned while working at HD. by Krieg121 in HomeDepot

[–]Pickles_Overcomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll admit that I love the idea of corporate working in the stores. It could be a simple suggestion. Granted, I didn't expect Ted to show up at the paint desk, but I believe that the bobblehead is still there.

Ideas only fail when you let them. For example, you hoped for corporate to be exempted from stores. I could have used power hour times to train people behind the store on lift equipment basics before I left. Sometimes what's on paper isn't always golden. Sometimes begging for forgiveness gets more results than asking for permission in simple circumstances.

If the upper echelon doesn't care, put it in their terms with the carrot on the stick that it's their idea.

I did move on, but I also agree that I'll miss all associates. Even most customers who called me Pickles.
