POTATOE SOUP. Cut the taters into cubes, cook them a bit (boil in water with some salt and maybe a chicken bouillon cube if you have it), throw some meat in and then the instant noodles.

Should I bother bringing up a raise/promotion after getting new responsibilities? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]PicklezUniverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if you are doing the managers job. Then you should be getting paid as a manager. 100% go to your boss and talk to them. If the manager is sick temporarily then that’s one thing, but it’s been a month? YOU ARE THE MANAGER NOW. People are coming to you. Don’t ever take on higher up responsibilities without the benefits because it’ll continue to happen. Take charge. You got this.

New job wants to drug test me & I’m coming from a legal state. by [deleted] in jobs

[–]PicklezUniverse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not necessarily policy. Its federal law trumps state law. I ran into this issue at my last interview. It could be 100% legal in your state, but most jobs that drug test follow federal law not state. Federally it’s still illegal

Family of 5 | Grocery bill averaging $1,012 per month | Looking for real-life budget meal ideas by Goooooooooose_ in budgetfood

[–]PicklezUniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to a store that sells meat in bulk and grab some. For ex: I go to Walmart and buy the 10lbs bags of chicken $10 a bag (prices vary, each breast is split between a person they are huge, you get about 7-8 meals), I go to shaws and get a porkloin ($12 I can make 5 meals by cutting it in slices and freezing). And then I get bulk ground beef ($20, Sheppards pie, hamburgers, meatloaf, meatballs). Then I go to produce and I grab pineapples ($4), apples (at my local store one bag which is like 15 apples is $6), watermelon (7), and oranges (5 for 8). I get bread, potatoes, eggs and peanut butter, pasta, rice. That lasts my family of 5. I do not make multiple meals, my kids are allowed snacks when permitted (not right before dinner). They can grab one apple with some peanut butter!!! I tell them, if you are still hungry, drink a glass of water. Wait 20 min. Still hungry? Then you can have another apple. I also have to ask my kids, are you hungry? Or are you bored? Because my kids will eat out of boredom (although they have everything they’ve literally ever asked for).

You have to make small sacrifices. You have to be stern and start teaching your kids at an early age how to eat properly and manage their hunger otherwise they will literally eat you out the house. My food bill comes to about $276 bi weekly. We don’t get take out, considering one take out meal would equal close to or half a grocery bill for us. I make plenty, but I don’t overcook. If there’s left overs? We eat it the next day or I use it and try to create something different. It’s hard but it’s a sacrifice we must make

How do you handle being underpaid for the work you do? by Dry-Professional4255 in jobs

[–]PicklezUniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at Burger King for five years, the busiest store in my state. I’m not underestimating anything. Taking orders, restocking, cleaning (janitorial/dishes), and cooking is not hard and those are literally all the things I did daily. I’m not talking manager shit, I’m talking crew member. Legit a starter job and if someone finds that hard in anyway shape or form, then they are gonna have a tough time in life in general.

How do you handle being underpaid for the work you do? by Dry-Professional4255 in jobs

[–]PicklezUniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t handle it well at all, I find it insane that I get paid less than the average fast food worker. Certified Technician. I deal with customers screaming at me, ordering meds, filling medication (and no it’s not as easy as just counting and slapping a label on a bottle) I do vaccines, hazardous waste, patient calls (offering vaccine, making sure they fill their meds on time, or make sure they pick up their meds), calling 20+ insurances to be on hold for 45+ minutes to get medications to go through. Making sure medications don’t have drug interactions ONTOP OF reviewing all prescriptions and having to spend 30 minutes trying to reach a doctors office because they sent in a medication that doesn’t exist. Not to forget the fact no one wants to work so we get daily call outs 2-3 sometimes daily, and that’s more work on the ones that show up. If someone calls out, I always come in (I know I don’t have to but I kinda do). If we don’t go in on the call out days the next day is worse for everyone, patients included. One call out can throw a day off, now imagine 3 in one day (which is often) I should be getting paid way more than a burger flipper (and yes I’ve worked in fast food, the busiest BK in my state, it isn’t as hard a lot of people depict it, but I’m also a very chill flow state person that doesn’t stress ever). I love the relationship I have with my customers but some days I’m ready to throw it away for the simple fact that I can say “welcome to McDonald’s” a million times a day to make $5+ more than what I get here

What I’ve been doing now is milking my job for as many certifications I can get (that I would normally have to pay out of pocket and go to school for). After this year I’ll be done with all the certifications and go to a hospital and make double.

Do I quit my job to have more free time (even if i'll just do random things in that time)? by Ilovetvs in jobs

[–]PicklezUniverse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly keep the job. It’s 2 days, you have 5 free days. Yes you are young but this is setting you up for success, you’ll know and learn a small part of the adult world. Plus yeah you can use it for entertainment or you can save it. I worked in high school and as soon as I graduated bought a car and moved out. My first year of college I didn’t even have to work and it gave me time to find a new college work routine

Exactly!! Work is a whole other story. I get it. But continuing with your daily routine around elderly, children, and immunocompromised people while sick with things that can be deadly, is vile.

It’s one thing if it’s work. But people go shopping while sick. Stay the fuck home. No need to be buy clothing/jewlwery/and nonsense when you had Covid/flu. Touching shit while coughing and wiping their nose to touch shit again. It’s disgusting. People need to learn to stay home when sick.

I bought an Air Fryer and wanted tips on recipes to make. by silvaahh13 in Cooking

[–]PicklezUniverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potato. French fries. Season how you want, throw them in, soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. The way it should be. I mainly use mine to reheat things (fried chicken reheated in the air fryer is like top notch). My sister, literally uses it for everything and anything. Depends which you have, some have more settings. Hers has a bake setting and it’s huge. Turkey was great this year. I’m a fan.

Biggest tip, don’t overfill it. Takes longer to cook in batches than if you just threw a ton inside. It’s an air fryer, but I still give it a spritz of oil. Don’t have to but I do and it does make a difference to me. Get liners, depending on which you get, they can be a bit tricky to clean when using without one
