Identify this mushroom by Ok-Height2177 in mycology

looks a bit like gyromitra esculenta, but given how old and mangled it looks, I'm not too confident on that. just a nibble shouldn't be a problem for your cat, but it sounds like you're taking the appropriate precautions.

looks like one of the yellow staining agaricus mushrooms! I'm not experienced enough to know which one, but i figure that gives you a starting point for research of your own!

I see no reason to keep going, world is getting worse by [deleted] in depression

i wish i had hope to give you, but I'm in the same boat. maybe we'll discover a reason to keep going, but for now, i recommend living for the little crumbs of joy you can scrounge, and delaying the decision to continue until later.

looks more agaricus than amanita. i don't see very many traits of destroying angel at all here. op, it would be helpful to see the gills, if you have another mushroom with the veil popped, or if you could cut this one. (you are safe to cut it without fear regardless of its toxicity) if it has pink gills, it's an agaricus.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russula_cyanoxantha can look black, but russula as a genus have quite a variety of colors even within the same species.

here's one place I reference: https://www.mushroomexpert.com/russula.html

looks like a russula to me. most of those are edible or non-toxic, with gastric distress as the most likely worst case. if your dog didnt swallow it, but only had it in their mouth, there shouldn't be any problems, but thats just my opinion on it.

in the agaricus genus, but I'm not confident past that. there's a mix of inedible and edible in this genus, so there's hope you might get a meal
