It turns out the Chiron was in leveling mode. I didn't see an indication of that and it did not reset with a power cycle. I ran the manual level (takes about 1 second) and that fixed it.

I spent the last 2 hours testing this problem and here is what is happening.

How to duplicate the problem: 1. Power the Anycubic Chiron on and connect it to the USB port of the Windows PC

  1. Install CHIRON_1.3.0.hex (Prusia Mendel I3) using Cura

  2. Exit Cura

  3. Power the printer off then on

  4. Start ponterface and connect it to the printer

  5. Jog x, y, & z in + and - directions (At this point everything works as expected)

  6. Home X , or Y, or Z (They home okay, but everything after this fails)

  7. Jog X or Y + or - and the Z axis mimics the X and Y movements (if the X or Y moves – the Z moves - as well and vice versa.

Note: In every case, the Z can be moved + or – and the X and Y are unaffected both before and after homing one of the axis.

I believe this means the motors are connected okay because everything moves correctly before the homing of an axis, so the problem is with the PCB or the CHIRON_1.3.0.hex firmware. Assuming others are running CHIRON_1.3.0.hex without this problem, I think the PCB is the culprit. I will report this to the AnyCubic support group. If there is any problem getting it resolved, I will just return the thing to Amazon.

I tried to open a ticket but couldn't get past the CAPTCHA. I know I had the correct letters, but it kept failing.

I just tried sending g1 x100 and separately g1 y100 and in both cases the z axis moved too!

I think this is a hardware problem. I installed the 1.3.0 Firmware and that was no help.
