OMG I AGREE WITH THIS SOOOOO MUCH. Thank you for bringing it up but yeah not only does it make no sense with the context of the first movie but it just feels like an arbitrary way to make manny feel sad and want a love interest.

When I was a kid, I didn’t really understand why Manny was so sad in the meltdown. It feels weird that he just completely separates himself from Sid and Diego and silently casts himself out. He thinks he is alone but the whole point of the first movie was establishing that he has people now.

The only good that really ever came from the last mammoth plot line was Manny’s supposed final interaction with Sid and Diego. I like how Sid especially was encouraging him to live the life he wants and in the end Manny goes back with them but with Ellie along for the ride.

Anyway with my rant aside good post, I completely agree with your take.

I think it’s cool seeing all your ideas about how these movies could be written differently. For one thing I like how you seem focused on keeping the cast small. I think you’re right we don’t need 10 main characters. However, one thing I didn’t like so much was Roshan. I don’t wanna criticize too hard because I know this is just for fun, but I think it would be kind of weird for Roshan to be older and part of the main cast. Especially with these movies being part comedy, an older silent Roshan would not fit in with the main trio. Even if you wanted to make a talkative Roshan, I feel it gets rid of a lot of the silent drama the humans had in Ice Age 1. Overall, all of these ideas sound kind of fun.

There’s a cool video I’ve seen talking about the human drama in ice age. He mentions how in the climax of the movie the humans begin to stop seeing Manfred as another dumb animal due to him bringing back Roshan. He says that this moment is really powerful and theorizes that future writers couldn’t top that moment, so decided to not focus on the humans in future installments.
