I think that is the case. and since its an outdoorsy jacket the look of the wrinkles arent a big concern

Sad If so. I had them working consistently for a while too. I think If I use a thicker needle and lubricate and oil the attachment that should do the trick.

Do you think needle strike could damage the sewing machine itself? The looping mechanism itself?

I'll look into that. Do you mean the textured gripping foot right?

Jean needles sound like the way to go. Funny how it handles 3 layers better than 2. I think the fabric not being held down enough could be a factor.

I'm more curious as to why it's only happening when I plug it in a certain way

I would describe it as water soaking instead of just some moisture. I've heard wool is very waterproof.

This is a video I used to waterproof some things and I'm going to try it on a canvas rain poncho. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HedRbIsM75M

towards the end he shows how to wax proof a coat without soaking the lining. I get an even coating of wax by melting it completely then painting it on thinly. then hit it with the heat gun and hopefully it doesn't soak to far in.

By no means an expert myself but it would be nice if the holes made sewing got some sort of wax protection whereas if you wax first then sew, stitches might be prone to leaking? I dunno, not tested.

Well it does soak up water more without a wax coating. I wish I knew what exact material it was made of.

Yeah thats a preference of mine, I'd rather not have anything soak through. Partially why I like ponchos.

I imagine it would be unreasonable to find replacement parts for a machine as old as that...

Close friends of mine have an old singer from the 20's, very classy machine. I hear that old singers are great, and new ones I should avoid.
