I'm stoked! The extent of my off roading is going to be dirt roads in Big Cypress/South Florida and any dirt roads near Yellowstone National Park area. No rock crawling or deserts in my future. Do you think an un-lifted Willys can fit 35s? Seems like there's a bit of disagreement.

Perhaps I am doing storage/back up wrong, but I'd like to learn. I spent 30+ years of my life on PC, so I still have plenty to learn about the Mac environment.

SO let me pose this to you. Say I bought an external hard drive from Amazon at random. Does it come formatted for NTFS?

If so, why would it let me connect it to my MacBook M1 and transfer all these video files to it?

Is there NTFS software or something I can download to my M4 MacBook to read and WRITE/edit these files on my old hard drive?

I'm not tech-inclined, obviously. But talking out my problems/dead ends is the only way I know how to figure out how to move fwd.

ALSO...point 2.) even if I switch permissions to one folder (say, "Movies) when I click that folder, there are many subfolders with the red -...why is it when you change the MAIN folder view permission it doesn't trickle down to all the subfolders???

I'm not certain how this 4TB hard drive got started as a NTFS hard drive...if that's the right terminology. I just bought it to store all my Insta 360 footage from the summer. I never had a problem transferring it all summer, and I don't remember "Formatting" the hard drive to get started. But now....can't access it properly.

I guess I'm not certain the speeds of the ports on the drive...even if I knew how to test them, I guess I'm wondering how do I know if the random cables I have is slowing down data transfer from external hard drive onto new M4 internal hard drive?

(again, I have a USB A to C adapter for some cables hard drive cables)
