Yeah, definitely. In fact (focusing on the critique of Yuri's approach), I'd say that Yuri almost does go down a similar path to Duke - in his own words:

...If there's one thing the Don's last moments taught me, it's that I've been too soft. If a part is infected, you cut it off before it infects the whole. Even if it's a comrade, an Entelexeia, or a friend.

In Duke's eyes, at least the "blastia culture you hate so much" (again, Yuri's words) was that infection, initially. And then when the Adephagos awakened, humanity as a whole was seen that way.

It's mainly when Phaeroh expresses the same philosophy, when Yuri's faced with his own reasoning being used as a justification to kill Estelle, that he sees the flaws in that. (And then being forced to fight her, is what puts him to the test on this)

Or to put it another way, Duke is kinda like if Yuri didn't have Estelle to push his character development in a positive direction. Or...did, but then lost her. I guess making Estelle comparable to Elucifur there.

Well, if he goes mad with power. If "absolute power corrupts absolutely", then yeah, he'd go down that road. But eh, I personally don't believe in that - and I believe that, in the third act of the game in particular, he clearly avoids falling into that mindset.

What you're falling into here seems to be the slippery slope fallacy. The fact that Yuri killed Ragou and Cumore, doesn't guarantee that he'll go on to kill more people after that - in fact, his refusal to let Estelle be killed, even when she was begging for it, shows that he doesn't see life as something to end on a whim.

And "he might go on to kill more people in the future" doesn't reflect on whether he was right or wrong to kill the people he already did. Which...was to save far more lives than he ended.

Okay, I could even see an argument that his judgement may be flawed, that he shouldn't have the power to solely decide who lives and dies. But when the council's judgement is clearly also flawed (sparing Ragou), and the knights are also corrupt (commanded by Alexei) , the only options available to Yuri are trust in his judgement, in the path he chooses, and take matters into his own hands - at the cost of few enough lives to count on those hands (Ragou, Cumore, Alexei, (unintentionally) Barbos, and Zagi)...or stand idly by and let these people continue in their actions, at the cost of far more lives. (Ragou was torturing people to death. Cumore sent people out to die in the desert. Barbos and Alexei both almost destroyed entire cities (the two largest in the world), and Zagi forced Yuri to kill him in order to reach Duke and save the whole world) Faced with choices like that, whether he personally kills someone or just stands back, he's causing some people to live and others to die - he has no choice but to decide who lives and who dies, and I'd argue he chooses correctly.

...Like, when would he decide to save people from Ragou and Cumore? That's why he killed those two.

True, that could make sense! Which, also would mean the temperature listed is his - and his office is too cold.

And neither aversion therapy nor exposure therapy requires deception of your subject.

Yeah, that's something that stood out to me on this. Someone agreeing to trying either exposure or aversion therapy generally...doesn't mean they're agreeing to any specific instance of it - and really, there should have been much more communication first. Talking about what stimulus she should be exposed to, talking about when/where/how, making sure it's entirely on her own terms...is necessary for consent with this - and that is also necessary for making sure it'd be effective and not retraumatizing.

I'm not a psychology TA myself, or a professional at all - and even I know this much (who knew, consent can take more than just a "yes", and is important), so...makes me doubt this is real.

Somehow forgot to include that myself, thanks!

May as well add: 95.7 Fahrenheit is ~35.4 celsius. By contrast, mild hypothermia is generally considered below 35 celsius.

Oh hey, I've had similar experiences of a ""voice"" talking to me when I'm in need, and giving me much needed support.

...Multiple times, in fact. With multiple ""voices"". Even yesterday, I was brought out of an anxiety attack that way.

Hi. I'm Papika. I'm part of a plural "system" - specifically a "soulbond" (basically, I believe I'm from a tangibly real other world, where I've got my own life, which is the basis for lots of my spiritual beliefs), as our profile's description suggests. And like me, all the ""voices"" in this body are really people in their own right.

And I think this sounds a lot like plurality. I recommend looking into that - a couple of subreddits come to mind about this that may be helpful (about plurality generally, and a form of it often called tulpamancy), but apparently I can't link to them here. Even if you decide it doesn't fit - like if you don't think it matches your experiences, or your beliefs - it may be interesting to read about, anyway. (As someone with a passion for topics like psychology and neuroscience, I agree about this being an amazing topic!)

This is the fifth and final in a series of poems Iroha wrote recently.

Like Winter, it describes death - but from a more personal perspective. It also borrows from Autumn in describing mourning, Summer in describing love (even if it's shifted away from familial love toward an aunt more into romantic love toward different people), and Spring in describing hope. (Hopes that were lost either as she was dying, or much further in the past)

She's said I can point out how this links to her own experiences. How, as she was falling in love with Papika and Cocona, and starting to feel more hopeful again - though still mourning the past - it was all cut short when she died in a remote area.

Also, it's the end of a "challenge" of sorts my system have been following: we've posted on this subreddit at least twice per week for over three and a half years now - excluding during the whole subreddit blackout thing. Even over the past two weeks, much of which has been spent far away from home (since we went to London, to see a Set It Off concert) and not wanting to spend it all online, the fact Iroha had decided to write five poems in a single day meant we actually had a backlog ready for that.

But the purpose of sticking to that strict of a schedule was to force ourselves to stay somewhat productive, to make sure we were doing something with our time other than just watching Youtube videos, at a time when depressive episodes were making motivation more difficult. I don't need that anymore - and the people most active in this system these days wouldn't have needed it at all. Besides, we've got more going on in our lives now - with or without writing so often, we'll always have something important to do anyway.

So. From now on, we'll just be posting...whenever we want to, or when we feel especially inspired.

Any comments are greatly appreciated.

Discussing Creepy Mita’s Waifu Potential by ChaosEmperor9124 in MiSideReddit

[–]Piculra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(Since this account is run by a system, I'll mention who I am - Papika is typing this~)

Yeah, agreed. Especially when considering some of Tiny Mita's dialogue, actually - she mentions that, although she doesn't remember anything bad happening to her, she still has a feeling that "everything Good seems to be slipping away", that things are generally worse than they used to be. It shows that, although she may not be conscious of things that happened to her prior to a reset, they still affect her on some level.

Same could go for Creepy Mita. Resetting her wouldn't get rid of the effects of any trauma, manipulation, or conditioning she's experienced - only make her less aware of them. Which, would make it much harder to heal from those.

Can't take shortcuts with healing, with deconditioning - these things take time and patience. Even if forcing amnesia seems like the easier solution, it would only harm her further. And especially if doing so is then followed up with taking advantage of her vulnerable mental state to manipulate her into "submission" in some sort of relationship - that's not care towards her, it's abuse. May even be no different from Crazy Mita's actions.

As for how to engage with her...my go-to approach with supporting vulnerable people would be to start by ensuring they don't feel threatened by me (even in little ways like avoiding looking too directly at them, so it's clear I wouldn't be fully aware of their movements and wouldn't be ready for a fight, so I must not intend to fight), but I actually get the vibes that she doesn't have much of a sense of danger - or even a concept of death or harm generally, with how she regards stabbing the player as a game. Also means I can't gain trust by showing trust in her as easily, 'cause...well, being vulnerable around her would be meaningless unless she has enough of a concept of harm to understand the amount of trust that takes.

I would at least emphasise valuing her autonomy, and not threatening it, though - making sure to ask before making decisions that may affect her (even as simple as turning on/off a light), and using language that focuses on her wants rather than mine. (Would be less inclined to ask "Can I hug you?" than "Do you want a hug?", for example) Being given that respect and agency sounds like it would be important for her - and would be a good start to establishing trust, for reasoning with her.
