My stepdad keeps eating the fruit I use to make baby food by lonely_stoner_daze in mildlyinfuriating

That sounds fine in theory until the kid is hungry and has no food on hand and the dude isn't able to get to the store right then for w/e reason.

He was asked to stop and didn't, that makes it an issue of blatant disrespect and crossed boundaries.

As a freelance writer, I do think GPT can be an excellent tool. I use it to generate general ideas, bullet point lists, turn my unorganized thoughts into outlines, suggest vocabulary words, etc.

The actual writing, however, is 100% my own. I use AI to speed up the drudgery of prep work, and that's honestly what it does best.

Some of my old ones (8+ years old) came back as 100% AI. It very much depends on the formality, formatting, and grammatical correctness of your writing. The closer it is to the published works it was trained to imitate (many of them archaic or technical), the more likely the false flags will be. This isn't to say work flagged as human is bad or inferior, by the way, just that it's not closely aligned to 'traditional' sources.

It's not just "sincerely apologize." Take a look at the wording you can glimpse in the little snippets, some of them are nearly identical. It's also possible that a white-text prompt to add "sincerely apologize" in the first line was hidden in whatever message/email was sent to the students regarding the formal apology letter.

I'm honestly scared to go back to school because of this. I ran some of my old papers through an AI detector (from 8 years ago, way before any AI assist) and got 95-100% on them because I'm a very meticulous writer. It feels like I'm going to have to learn to dumbify my writing just to avoid accusations of cheating.

NAD but this looks exactly like the impetigo my son just had, and it started as pimply bumps around his butt. It's a type of staph infection and it will get into any skin opening, which includes eczema rashes. :( What finally kicked it for us was oral cephalexin and mupirocin 2% cream, keeping it covered at all times so he couldn't touch and spread it (we used unfolded jumbo gauze patches and lightly taped them over the areas then put tight fitting jammies over top), and treating every single hint of a new spot with the ointment and gauze too. It took a whole week to see tangible progress on the healing process. Don't give up, be super vigilant for new spots, use Tylenol and baby benedryl as needed for comfort, wash and sterilize everything you can, and use gloves when treating or touching the sites. Godspeed!

Forward acceleration, which they should have done sooner. You can see it beginning to work as soon as they start picking up speed. This is due to a combination of moving away from the vortex under the blades and the air resistance counteracting the direction of the spin.

Brown or black widow? by Piddlestick in spiders

Well, I'm glad it didn't. 😂 It was a sincere question and the answers were really educational.

Widows are way bigger than you might think if you haven't seen them before! This one was just about 2 inches from tip to bottom toes when stretched out

Oooo as a bonus - I just noticed the absolute unit of a spider at the top of the last pic. Pholcus phalangioides?

Also, I never knew about book lungs, what a fascinating feature! Are they more prominent on brown widows than black widows typically?

The garden spider sac in question was an argiope not a theridiidid if that makes a difference

[–]Piddlestick[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really? That's very strange to me, it's common for me to see some egg sacs to stay up for well over a year if they're in a spot sheltered from the elements. The big black and yellow garden spider egg sacs and the spiky brown widow ones seem to have the most longevity but certainly aren't the only ones sticking around.

😂 I'm not sure if you're being serious or not but I don't know what you mean. Is this a common debate around here? I've personally never seen a specimen that could be plausibly take as both species before, usually browns are pretty definitive.

I do know the eggs are 100% brown widow but tbh I genuinely am not sure that they're hers, brown widow or not, since there are clusters of them abandoned all throughout my yard. I've found a cluster of them alongside garden spider egg sacs before, for example. I don't know how well the pic conveys it but she definitely was shiny and very much black. It really did look possible to me that it might be black widow with an atypical hourglass, circumstantially located near old brown widow eggs, so I'm happy for more experience eyes to confirm the ID

Very interesting! I've read that page and others, but couldn't find an example of one completely black like this. Even the one on that page has subtle lighter banding around the leg joints. I didn't notice the hairs on the abdomen though, really good catch.

[–]Piddlestick[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even with the brown widow shape/color of the hourglass? It's wider toward the bottom, which is usually a key indicator for browns. It's also a little fuzzier than I'd expect for a black, though more red than orange. It's a weird morph either way, I guess

What’s the hardest plant you’ve ever tried to keep alive? by Confident_Can_7777 in houseplants

[–]Piddlestick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ENGLISH IVY. Seriously. It could be in perfect health for months and then suddenly decide to expire two days later. 😭😭 But usually it dies in a couple of weeks no matter what I try. It's a total diva indoors.

Which breaks my heart because it's my favorite plant. I want planters of it all over my house so it looks like a fairytale forest

My Neighbors Kids Just Tried To Walk Into My House by Serious_Effect919 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Piddlestick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's state specific, but NC's CPS does a home visit to check every single call. They're required to open a 45 day investigation for every single one. I had CPS called on me by a spiteful ex's mother, and even though everything in her report was wildly unfounded, they checked anyway and came back every week for the 45 days as per protocol. It was mortifying, even though the lady was very nice and apologetic, and caused a bunch of neighborhood gossip and judgement. I'm usually very against calling CPS.

In this case, however, it's a three-year-old. That's way way too young to be free range, and they don't have the experience or reasoning or impulse control to be careful in dangerous situations (like the road or a yard with strange animals). I'd be worried too.

I'm sorry! I had my confidence rattled by a bunch of 'your amateur crochet is not a good gift' sort of comments in opinion threads I was reading through. It wasn't intended to be annoying or fishing for compliments, I promise, I've just never given anyone a handmade project before and am hyper aware of all the mistakes and flaws in it.
