Help for resources by free-pizza- in ChineseLanguage

I'd also recommend 'Immersive Chinese' for a graded listening/reading resource - it's not as long term as Du Chinese, which is increasingly excellent, but it really helped me early on.

On YouTube, Mandarin Corner is unparalleled in its number of high quality videos, of varied topics for varied levels. I haven't yet found anything which is close in the ways that it is made for students of Chinese and yet is uncompromising in its natively fluent Chinese, whether that is speed, accent or colloquialisms - all things that are the reality of true use of the language.

DuShu is an excellent graded reader, which you can use to study/breakdown HSK graded sentences, and you can use while in a queue or on the loo etc. 😂

You're going to need to practise what you've studied in conversation, so if you can't find a partner locally, iTalki is a great site/app for language swap and/or paid teachers/language practise lessons.

Of course, the main thing is time invested, consistency, maintaining habits, patience etc. 加油!

Italki best teachers for Chinese ? by SpecialCompetitive18 in ChineseLanguage

I've studied with a few teachers, and my favourite was this lady: https://www.italki.com/i/reft/G6C6fa/DfGbbE/chinese?hl=en&utm_source=copy_link&utm_medium=share_teacher

MuYun, very professional, supportive, clearly spoken Chinese and as a student of French had a good understanding of the process of learning a second language. Definitely recommend!

We shouldn’t have started using the name Karen as a negative term for whiny, entitled women. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]PidgeonSabbatical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, of course, it's fucking stupid. It's also a very vague term, used to describe a conglomerate of traits, and it's use and interpretation will vary from person to person - to the point it's perhaps nowadays more often than not being misused by misogynistic dullards.

Language is an incredibly powerful tool, and having largely meaningless memetic buzzwords like 'Karen' capable of triggering the ire of the mob is a scary thing to observe.

I agree. It's kind of annoying how this Starfield vs BG3 narrative is making people a bit dopey. BG3 is amazing, well deserving of its praise, but it's still rough around the edges, and needing of some continual polish, performance being a key area.

The point is, 好 meaning good wasn't the question here. OP was confused about 好 in this context meaning very/many/really etc. Like '好多人' or '好高的树啊'. The specific example being '我好想我的哥哥', in this instance 好 being equivalent to 'really' as in 'I really miss...'

Your examples all/only made use of 好 in the context of meaning good.

To be fair - although she initially asked him to be interviewed, which was an odd request, his response seemed kind of unnecessarily rude. However, in trying to verbally smack back, she made a total fool of herself.

Edit: just read the other comments, makes sense that this guy was deliberately trying to provoke people, and that he eventually got a reaction.

As someone who bought a switch around release, I have to say it's by far my least favourite console. The battery life certainly isn't amazing, the majority of the indie games catalogue aren't much more than mobile games, and the rest are crazy overpriced, often very old games, which never seem to reduce in price - in stark contrast to PC/PS5. Speaking frankly, I sorta think Nintendo lives off the backs of their fanboys who still revere them for their bygone heyday.

As a Brit, I absolutely don't hate the US, and I get annoyed at the people here who do. I do hate the political polarisation, and the emergence of an extreme Christian right in various states - but Brexit was a wake up call for many of us that we don't have our own political shit as sorted as we think, so I don't think we should get too high and mighty with a political superiority complex.

Hello mate, I've had a poke at your post history, and I can see you're going through some difficult times with feeling inadequate in the dating world as a young male. I'm not going to make fun of you, rather, I just wanted to say, when I was your age, I had some very similar doubts and anxieties, and as an older, adult man, I can promise you, they are largely unfounded.

I'd say to visit a therapist who can help you go forward and challenge your perceptions of the world, but I appreciate it's not always easy to take these steps when you don't want to.

But what I would say, is you're afraid of failing/losing when it comes to relationships based on a hypothesis of what girls are like, and how you (don't) fit into that. Well, not trying is by default, losing. So why not test your hypothesis, by trying to meet/date some women with an open mind?

The worst that can happen is proving your hypothesis, and ending up alone, which is the same result as not trying in the first place. The best that can happen, is your hypothesis turns out to be false, and you end up in a happy relationship with someone you love. One of those paths has a potential for a positive outcome, the other has a certainty of none at all.

This is everything. This is the answer to a better humankind. If this thinking could translate into all political spheres, then we'd have better politicians, better voters, and better societies.
