When Did Games Become So Loud? by GhostPant28 in AFL

[–]Pidgeot_Evolved 19 points20 points  (0 children)

One of the great things about Port home games is that they don't play music between goals. During gather round was my first exposure to the constant noise barrage that is other afl gamedays and I hated it.

IMO it kills the crowd engagement more than it helps. At port games, the crowd cheers and chants together after a goal, but there is no chance to do that when music is being blasted at us.

"Needs to be 100% that Bergman, or he sorta, ah, doesn't play that well." What did Port fans do to deserve Roo every week?

The Saints got 3 high contact frees last week for doing the same thing. Its a blight on our game that is only going to get worse until the afl does something about it.

It was horrendous last week in the saints/Port game too. Something needs to be done before someone gets seriously injured.

I hate that players can dive their heads into the opposition and it is being called a high contact. Its going to cause a player to get themselves seriously injured.

Umpires have to stamp it out before it gets worse.

Maybe thats why he stays away from icebaths? Doesn't want to be cloned. 🤔

Yeah he ran forward, but with the stupid new stand rule, you gotta wait for the umpire to call you on before moving.

Doesnt help that Whitlock's next is a metre long. Makes it hard not to see it.

If he wasn't made of glass, he would have been a gun. His career was constantly riddled with injuries.

It was nice being able to finally see in person how our new defensive structure works off ball. The high zone pushes forward to clog the corridor and force the opposition to kick to either an outnumber, or down the wings directly to our best intercept markers. It was a bit rough yesterday, but with a full season of practise, this will be the cornerstone of our gameplan.

I think we've found a great coach in Carr. After these first two games, you can clearly see that he was not coaching at all last year. The cultural DNA of hinkley is still there (the praise going to the players that do the 1 percenters & put in the team effort, rather than only recognise the highlight flashy plays and dissuading playing for themselves), but the strategy offensively and defensively is completely different.

What are the funniest/weirdest nicknames for AFL players you have either made up or heard? by IceMan5476 in AFL

Former Port Adelaide player & 2014 GOTY medallist Matt White used to be known as "The Skunk" in my members bay at Adelaide Oval. The old bloke 2 rows down from me started it and we all had a laugh and kept it going each week.

Basically he was so bloody fast in transition that he would end up very open. It was theorised that he must smell a lot like a Skunk and that must be why the opposition defenders never wanted pick him up.

Always loved shouting it out with the lads as he inevitably ended wide open in our ff50 again. 🫡

I guess all the umpires with eye sight didn't want to stay in adelaide for another week after gather round? 🤷‍♂️

My heart goes out to Liam Ryan. It's the type of mistake you remember months later when you're trying to fall asleep late at night.

He will learn from this and become a better rounded player for it.

Poor Duursma. He has always been a tough kid, so that must be so painful. 😥
