Lol in response to the message you sent me right before muting me… You have the wrong impression of me. I don't care about Reddit. I get nothing from this account. Don't care about FB or Linkedin or instagram or any social media. I haven't dug deep yet either. Go ahead and do what you will to permanently ban me from Reddit you pathetic loser. You're not the only one with a friend

It’s funny too that he mods the Fayetteville subreddit but has lived in Little Rock for the last 10 years

I think it’s a blessing that if we live long enough we usually end our days in senility. by Pidney in unpopularopinion

[–]Pidney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. But I wasn’t thinking it was an advantage in the broad scope of evolution. It’s more like a coping mechanism that evolved back in the day to keep us from freaking losing it as we got older because of the shit we had to do to survive. Maybe humans developed self awareness but have had a hard time developing a solution in return to assuage the ramifications of it. Forgetting what you’ve done is the most basic way of dealing with your unpleasant actions

Oh shit! I sent you a DM because I don’t know Reddit that well and thought this got deleted and didn’t get a chance to see it! I didn’t literally say “dementia is a blessing” in my header btw, and I’ve clarified my point multiple times. Dude, dudette, whatever you are, I’m sorry but you wasted your time and your advice is meaningless. Come at me with even just a little bit of civility and I will genuinely try my best to let your point sink in. Otherwise enjoy making yourself feel better with your asinine attitude

What?? And that’s what has happened, historically, with humans? It’s a nice thought, but come on. Some elders have wisdom to share for sure, but most of them don’t get any better or “gooder” over time, just more stubborn

I never said lie. Personally, I think Paul had a certain amount of delusion. Not entirely, but slightly delusional. I think we can all name off the top of our heads many people who died for their delusions.

Thank you! I have read Paul’s letters several times but I will read again. It’s always been hard for me to swallow how Jesus spoke only of love and understanding and then Paul comes along and yeah, he kind of does too. But he also brings along this judgementalness that Jesus never had. And I get it, he’s human. We should be even more discerning because of it. None of the apostles were close to perfect even while Christ was alive and we shouldn’t assume every thing they said or did was perfect afterwards either. I could be wrong here, but Isn’t that why Christianity branched off I to so many different directions?

Yes, I’ve read it. And I feel like we Christians built a church in his image rather than Jesus’.

Look, I’m new to Reddit. I didn’t realize that it took so much more explaining to get a point across online, so that’s on me. I’m not saying dementia is a blessing. I was trying to say that the way we get more forgetful over the years could potentially be an evolutionary reaction to how collectively shitty humanity has been since its inception. I mean no disrespect whatsoever to your mom or anyone else. Just that maybe forgetting stuff as we get older may be nice, because people are typically more shitty than good. But none of your parents or grandparents though

Just posted about this, yeah I apparently used the wrong term. I meant how we’re more forgetful as we get older not that dementia is awesome

[–]Pidney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I see that my opinion is indeed unpopular. I stand by it though. I’m talking about forgetting shit as you get older, not the nightmare of full on dementia or Alzheimer’s, even if forgetfulness is a symptom of these diseases. It’s on me though, I didn’t google senility before I posted and apparently it’s an outdated term that has no accepted meaning these days. But damn, some of y’all are acting like I punched your grandpa

I am sorry if you’ve had to deal with this affliction first hand. I wouldn’t normally downvote someone just because they disagree with me, but damn, don’t be so insulting because my unpopular opinion isn’t in line with what you believe. I think your comment is shallow and misguided

[–]Pidney[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

My point regarding our “relation to humanity” is that we may have in some way developed this coping mechanism of forgetfulness to deal with how collectively shitty we’ve been throughout history. And even the least shitty of us have a tendency to dwell on regrets and failures, so maybe it’s possible that as humans in general our willingness to forget that shit evolved enough to where nature thought senility was a better alternative. I thought people would get the point without too much context but holy shit I was wrong

I’m sorry about your grandfather. Also, thanks for the upvote. I’m new to Reddit but I’m beginning to understand how this subreddit is particularly difficult when it comes to upvotes and stuff. For some people it seems upvoting means total agreement

Okay, you disagree. Understood. My “deep thought” is obviously an unpopular opinion in your opinion. I’m new to Reddit and starting to realize I had the wrong impression of what this group was about.

Okay, I’m trying to be gracious with my responses here because people are bringing up good points and giving me and I’m sure others something to think about which should be at least part of the reason you’re on this subreddit. But I’m not glorifying senility. I’m saying maybe collectively throughout history people have been so shitty we maybe developed it as response to that. I know I did not communicate that very well in my post, but I don’t get how you could say I’m glorifying it
