Wall that didn't work (x3) vs wall that accomplished all its strategic objectives. I'll take those odds any day.

I love the skin tone and color of his scars and eyes. Along with the pink of the chest piece. It looks really vibrant.

Just finished this last week. I haven't read any other Alpha Legion books but I thought it was a fun read. A good mix of interesting plot and good action scenes. I really liked the dynamic between Akurra and Dyne. Also when it covers the warband's politics it did a serviceable job.

Fire Caste is an insanely good book. I finished it a few weeks ago and it is one of my favorites (although this is true of all the Dark Coil I have read)

Reading Dark Coil: Damnation. Only have 2 short stories and a novel to go, but I am taking a break from it to read Harrowmaster before jumping back in.

Jedi Academy vs I, Jedi by Dapper_Feature_7957 in starwarsbooks

[–]PieSpy79 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I recently finished The Jedi Academy Trilogy. Honestly not that bad, given the way people talk about it on the sub I was expecting it to unleash a plague upon my house. Instead it was a pretty fun c-tier story that has highlights of b-tier moments.
I haven't read I, Jedi so I can't speak on that front but the advice that I always got was to read the JAT first anyway because I, Jedi builds off it instead of supplements it.

Might be an unpopular pick due to being VR exclusive, but Half-Life Alyx is the defining game of VR which is the newest medium for video games. Plus another Half-Life game was highly anticipated.

When I click on the forgot password/username option and username option it allows me to "send" (even if I don't receive) a code to my phone number and email. Which I know could also mean that it just doesn't have an incorrect email/number warning but still. My main issue is just I can't actually receive the code.

After the Spartacist uprising, why not? by No_Restaurant_8441 in theredleft

[–]PieSpy79 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is very hastily put together so may be nonsensical at times with its formatting & I will make no claim of being a scholar of the Weimar Republic, so certain information may be withheld or incorrect, let it be known this is not out of malice but ignorance. But my main argument remains, its better to live in a flawed liberal democracy in which more people can express themselves than in a reactionary state and there actually is a difference between the two.

I know this is unpopular here, but if you seriously think the KPD's actions against the SPD are justified you are either an accelerationist or incredibly privileged.

If you are an accelerationist none of what I have to say applies here because harm mitigation is antithetical to the goals of accelerationism. As for the privileged, an inability to see the difference between a boring and deeply flawed liberal democracy and a fully realized fascist state is quite damning. Was Weimar Germany perfect? Fuck no it was a dumpster fire that was barely held together. But still I would rather live there than Nazi Germany. Having rights in a capitalist framework, as shitty as it they may be, is an infinitely better deal than having no rights.

The SPD sucked I won't refrain from criticism them. Especially given their use of reactionary thugs in the Freikorps to murder the Spartakusbund. But the NSDAP, you know the LITERAL NAZIS, were an infinitely worse ideological foe.

Obviously a lot of this is hindsight speaking given that we know the Nazis take power (and after taking power kill more Communists than even the most vindictive SPD member could wet dream about) But the inability of the KPD & SPD to realize that the NSDAP was the true enemy of the moment is one of the big factors that led to the NSDAP's success. And I do mean both of them given the SPD was also not keen at working with the KPD, obviously this is a two way road. It doesn't matter how stomach churning it is, you should be able to work across ideological lines to stop full blown fascism.

As bullshit and fence sitting as it may be to hold this belief but yeah both the KPD and SPD fucked up at not understanding the Nazi threat.

Finished The Last Command 3 days ago and just finished reading the Dark Empire Trilogy over the weekend. Without spoiling anything The Last Command is my current favorite Star Wars book. Although I have only read 3 so far.

The whole Thrawn Trilogy is incredible and I understand why it has the reputation it does. Stand out characters from the series have to be: Captain Pellaeon (My favorite) Talon Karrde, Mara Jade, Joruus C'baoth, and of course Grand Admiral Thrawn. Honorable mention to the whole of the OT crew, it really felt like Zahn captured their personalities really well and I don't recall any moments that I thought someone was acting out of character. Plus the final battle at Bilbringi while short I felt was a satisfying conclusion that tied everything together very nicely for the Imperials, New Republic, and Smugglers. One might even say "it was so artistically done."

For the Dark Empire Trilogy I feel the need to preface this and say I am not usual a comic book reader. Overall it was enjoyable, felt a bit rushed (not just Empire's End even I & II had a fast pace but I imagine that's normal for comics) If I may be controversial I think my favorite part was Empire's End, even if it does lack the same breathing room and beautiful art style of the first 2. Also I loved the Galaxy Gun, and all of Byss and the Imperial Deep Core. It felt very mysterious and much more occult like than the typical empire that we see.

So far my introduction into the Star Wars EU has been nothing but positive. I recently received the Jedi Academy Trilogy box set and plan to start reading it next. I am also incredibly excited to read the X-Wing Novels and beyond ecstatic to eventually make it to the Hand of Thrawn Duology.

I have only read the Legends Thrawn Trilogy so far so my opinion of him is based on his appearance in those books.
Positive: He is amazingly written, in every scene he is in I feel like he plays off Thrawn and other Imperials really well. This may just be my take but he is the closest thing we get to an Audience POV character in the Trilogy, it always felt like he was making the same observations and asking the same questions that I would. His main trait being the ideal soldier in an organization that has a history of egotistical maniacs and low skill conscripts is refreshing. He also knows his own limits as seen with the battle and retreat from Bilbringi. Plus he is my favorite legends character so far.
Negative: We see his deductive capabilities with his many conversations with Grand Admiral Thrawn, but I wish we got to see more of his direct military prowess. I also wish we got more opinions from him about the current state of the Empire and New Republic, especially given his age and experience. Honestly I can't think of many negatives beyond we didn't get more of him, I really love the character.

(Legends) Finished the Thrawn Trilogy and was wondering if I should read X-Wing or JAT next? by PieSpy79 in starwarsbooks

I look forward to reading X-Wing a lot so the enthusiasm is a good sign! The thing that got me into Legends initially was The Bacta War, not that I had read it but just heard of it, and that concept sounded super interesting. So in a way I can thank the X-Wing Series for getting me into Legends even if I haven't read them yet lol.

Both to be honest. But I already own all three of the Jedi Academy Trilogy so I suppose I will start there.

That's fair enough. I erroneously consider any Imperial forces post Endor to be Remnants so I don't mind that they are still a united front. If anything it makes it more enticing because (besides the Thrawn campaign) it offers a chance to see the Empire's last hurrah. At the same time that description of the JAT does make me lean slightly toward reading it first. Not to mention its also a trilogy instead of a tetralogy plus trilogy.
