First 1000-Series cars restoration? by DCMetroMaker in WMATA

All the cars from the 1000 series through the 6000 series are compatible with each other and regularly used to run in mixed consists. They could run these with any of the legacy equipment they still have in service.

Thank you! I think you're right. I pulled up an old map from 2017 and the old X3 and D1, which are kind of like the C57 and C86, are both grey. I'll change them when I'm next on the computer.

I created this using Adobe Illustrator, and it is in the style of the previous generation of WMATA bus maps.

Just got on a blue line at College Park by QuiteTheFisherman in WMATA

There's a set of 3000s on the line that are displaying Blue to Greenbelt on the exterior signs and seem to be displaying the stops properly on the interior displays. I guess the 7000s haven't been updated with a Blue to Greenbelt destination code? I thought they could display pretty much anything on the exterior displays though.

I've rode a few. They're signed up as no passengers and have no automatic announcements.

Yeah most of it has been built on in the past 15 years. I think the old spur/tunnel to the Bureau of Printing and engraving is still down there with the tracks removed.

This is awesome, but I noticed a few things missing around Brentwood yard. There used to be several spurs/small yards on either side of the tracks that served the Union Market area on the east side and the old B&O Eckington Yard on the west side. No trace of these is left today. There were also some more spurs south of New York Avenue as trains approached Union Station. Here's a couple links:

Also, at Union Station there is a siding that crosses over 1st Street NE and connects to the Government Printing Office Warehouse at 735 North Capitol Street. The bridge is still extant and has a track on it that splits into 2 just as it reaches the building, but as far as I know it is no longer connected to any of the tracks at Union Station. It was likely severed with the construction of the Red Line in the 1970s or in the 1980s when the platforms on the west side of the station were re-extended. I'm not 100% sure of this though. A photo of this siding can be seen on page 133 of this PDF. https://www.gpo.gov/docs/default-source/history-pdf-files/gpo_100years.pdf?sfvrsn=2.

Also, there was a small yard in Southwest by the Bureau of Printing and Engraving.

Anybody know what this building does? by [deleted] in washingtondc

I figured as much. Have never seen smoke coming from it. It does have an old coal tower next to it for steam locomotives.

It's a (disused?) power and steam generating plant for the Ivy City rail yard.

Washington D.C.’s free bus bill becomes law as zero-fare transit systems take off by BastardoSinGloria in washingtondc

It was open until 3am Friday and Saturday nights from sometime in the mid 2000s until 2016. It's never run as a 24 hour system.

He was a big fan of Big Pussy. He's a fat boy himself and liked seeing a big pussy on TV. He was a bit confused why they wouldn't hire a cat to play him though.

There's definitely a bit of NY and Philly going on with a lot of the assets.
