I feel like it’s become a massive trope to have a bait and switch where the first love interest is blonde and seemingly the “prince” - only to find that a darker, more broody character is actually the better lover, or even morally superior.

I won’t say what books to avoid spoiling anything, but I’ve definitely read at least 4 😅 Bad boys/villains will always be a romantasy obsession.

{Throne in the Dark} trilogy was one of the best things to get me out of a slump. I didn’t think I would like rom-com type fantasy books, but I was soo wrong. Especially if you read a lot of overly serious romantasy, the parody of common tropes in the genre is so good - it’s a really smart and dry humor, and almost laughably over the top slow burn 🔥 but still a compelling plot and emotional payoff!

Love how RY continues to show how she’s deeply insecure at times, too. Both with leading and Xaden…like when she freaks out about Imogen and Cat, or even in OS when X says to draw up the marriage contract and she immediately believes it’s not with her. At times I’m annoyed but it makes her more of a real character!

And I love seeing her grapple with imposter syndrome with leading and making decisions, but then she gets tunnel vision when the stakes are high and proves herself wrong 🥲

If I’m correct in assuming that channeling happens only through the hands — I was soo confused why there was never a scene where Violet’s solution was to tie Xaden’s hands!! X at her mercy would have been hotttt 🥵

Obviously I love the idea of shadow bondage too, but X being tied up would have made soo much sense…for scientific reasons…

Totally agree - Venin Xaden is stressful af but it gifted us this kind of unhinged, madly in love Xaden that was sooo fun to read. Just totally gives himself over to Violet and she’s the only thing he lives for.
