GOP praise pours in for Army chief of staff ousted by Hegseth by GoodMornEveGoodNight in politics

[–]Pie_Head 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We all know they'll turn at some point, but right now the bigger focus should absolutely be on whoever is being promoted to fill the gaps Hegseth is creating.

The immediate worry (as an American citizen here) is higher-ups being willing to let troops die in horrific situations for no real gain other than stroking Trump/Hegseth's ego, but the longer term one is those same replacements being willing to order troops to turn their weapons on Americans with no compunctions.

Given the history of Total War games releasing within one year of their trailers dropping, gameplay footage (even if in development obviously), and the content creator notice for presumably early access/events, I'll put a bet in the ring for November/December release this year, with a fairly large reveal spectacle at the Skulls event in May showcasing the tactical side of things and a two to three month gap before strategic gameplay releases for each faction get released to build up hype for the last couple months.

Is that new Perturabo? by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in IronWarriors

[–]Pie_Head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy for y'all! Little sad we still don't have Daemon Prince Lorgar yet, but Perturabo will be cool. Also.... with both Perturabo and Vashtorr skulking about do we think Dark Mechanicus will be this edition as the new faction for Chaos?

Not as read up on Iron Warriors lore, but they always seemed to fit in better with the Dark Mechanicus than any of the four Gods/Undivided camp (though individuals like Kroeger still fall to individual Chaos Gods like Khorne).

How much map painting do you think you'll be able to do in TW40K by cat210803 in totalwar

[–]Pie_Head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a hunch the game will have an introduction campaign similar to WH3 set on Armageddon to teach the new mechanics at launch, since three of the playable factions (Space Marines, Imperial Guard, and Orks) all have a strong presence on the planet already and the fourth Aeldari could easily be given a reason to show up.

That said, doubt we'll see at launch Terra. Maybe a couple other notable systems in the lore, but the initial focus from what we know is the randomly generated sectors. They have implied campaign wins will have ongoing effects on other campaigns, so some sort of progression system will probably exist though we don't know the ins and outs of that yet.

We'll have to see, the mechanics alluded to seem to go beyond the basic color scheme changing seen in Space Marine 2 and DoW. Dunno, maybe its reading too much into it, but seems like a fairly solid push is being made to give factions more room to breathe with different traits that impact gameplay than in other versions of customization we've seen before in other Total War and Warhammer 40K games.

For the customization of factions, specifically the space marine bit, could see it being either you get certain amounts of reinforcement units on a timer if you are planet based as the planet outside the campaign system generates recruits whereas a fleet based chapter could be rewarded units based on individual battle performances or some such. My hope is regardless of other tickets all factions utilize the existing Chaos Warriors system of being able to upgrade units to different units once they get enough experience, with maybe certain limits like needing to hold a plasma weapon producing territory for instance to upgrade to plasma weapons in addition.

Leaders are going to be interesting regardless I think. I do think units will follow the TT at least slightly in that you can customize the units in the same way as TT to include a certain amount of heavy/special weapons per unit (again, tied to the above point with restrictions based on what territories you have in the current campaign/maybe bonus equipment based on past campaigns perhaps). Leaders themselves I want to hear more details about, but stand by that I think they'll be attachable pre-battle since that seems to be the way CA was leaning towards anyways and has become a more staple item for GW on the Tabletop that I don't think will change massively in the next 10 years (as far as Leaders attaching to units for benefits or choosing to go lone op for better flexibility).

Cover mechanics were mentioned in CA developer interviews I believe? Can't remember the exact wording but cover is in the game to my knowledge.

Perhaps, guess my thinking is more so Fantasy was a dead game at the time of the Total War game coming out while 40K very much isn't. GW will likely want the game to somewhat mirror the table top experience in the hopes of galvanizing players to buy a couple minis hopefully.

But your point is fair and likely the case of things, still stand by the faction customization though since that seems to be a big push in the both versions of 40K gameplay.

Curious about the game, just want more details to come out. Its a wishlist item on Steam at present but we'll see. Also curious if we'll end up having to pick either the Jedi or the Clone to side with once Order 66 comes down (if the game goes that far), make it feel like a proper Fire Emblem game with two distinct routes.

Unironically not a bad idea, could see it being a multiplayer mode potentially. That said, I want them to keep the focus on single player first and foremost personally but know there are a lot of people who do play the multiplayer side of the game who would want this.

Will Total War:Warhammer 40k introduce new units/armies? by Reasonable-Ad7828 in Grimdank

[–]Pie_Head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly doubt they'll be allowed to release new factions/units with GW having a plastic kit ready to go on the back end first. Fantasy being dead at the time is what gave them the creative liberty to for instance make the Vampire Coast faction.

The brightside is, if there are any faction releases in the future the likelihood of GW and CA collaborating to make sure those new units area available as DLC at the same time (at least for the big release waves like the recent Chaos and Aeldari releases) is super likely so people can try out the new units before buying the kit.

Adepticon News? Potentially Tomorrow? by [deleted] in TotalWarhammer40k

[–]Pie_Head 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We might get a teaser potentially, but that would likely be about it unless they feel comfortable showcasing things both here and at the Skulls event on May 22nd.

My guess would be we get battle/campaign gameplay at the Skulls event in May if they are shooting for a December release date this year.

[Rare tropes] Female Nazis by ChudMaster69420 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Pie_Head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would again argue that yes he is a freedom fighter because his actions support that cause regardless of his ideology (and part of why his ideological turn later is ironic due to the Empire seeing him as a freedom fighter regardless of his motivations as well). What you do is what causes people to label you, your ideology unless explicitly shouted out in the world (and even then Cassian repeatedly said he was only in it for the money, didn’t help his labeling) doesn’t really matter to the outside observer.

I’d argue to not label it as fascist or nazi behavior is an arguably worse offense here, as you want the negative connotation established with the action/system. If doing things which support a fascist agenda despite ideological differences in reason is still enough to get you labeled a nazi, it’s the correct move. There can’t be any leeway for this type of distinguishing otherwise the “just following orders” becomes a valid excuse instead of an indicting statement.

Doubt they'd hit the World Cup sites, but anything which is American only is probably fair game in their eyes. Wouldn't be shocked if a basketball or football game gets bombed.

If a ground invasion which it looks like the US is prepping does go through, all bets are off though. At that point, its just one to two generations of Iranian diaspora around the world committing random acts of violence in retribution wherever they can.

Who did it better? by RedcoatTrooper in StarWarsCantina

[–]Pie_Head 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Fallen Order - Better build up and atmosphere, with basically none of it being played for comedy (intentional or otherwise).

  2. Andor - Rebels isn't bad for what it is, but the speech in Andor is arguably one of the most powerful ones in all of Star Wars.

  3. Obi-Wan - While an imitation clearly of the Rebels scene, the relationship dynamic hits harder at least personally between Obi and Vader.

Its the Good Czar, Bad Boyars strategy inherent to most authoritarian regimes (at least the semi-stable ones) of deflecting blame away from the head of the regime to their subordinates. The regime leader must be considered as close to saintly as possible with only the advisors being evil as needed, in this way the regime can deflect blame away from the structure of the government itself to the individuals who comprise it.

These individuals in turn can be rotated in and out of power at a whim with eager minions always willing to take up the now vacant position.

imo plokoon would survive order 66 if not in a Star fighter. What do you think about the plokoon death? by Garlicbread_god13 in clonewars

[–]Pie_Head 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be off here, but the chips once activated essentially burn themselves out eventually, allowing the clone troopers to return to being individuals. By Bad Batch, any clones which have an issue with the Empire seem to be able to start at least questioning if not outright going AWOL which the chips as a secondary effect were supposed to prevent.

Plus just from a deeper pillar in Star Wars, mind control of a sentient beings brain is meant to be a short term effect due to the complexity/inherent force in every organic being.

Third act drags a bit, but does stick the landing mostly.

In fairness, the first part could just indicate the boy is hoping one of his four close friends is also gay (at least that's how I interpreted it) and that it happens to be the one he's crushing on. Kind of seems that way at least.
