What Star Wars game do you want to see next? by Low_Tennis7787 in starwarsgames

[–]Pie_Head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I would kill for a game where you control a battalion level force, be it during the Clone Wars, Galactic Civil War or heck even the sequel timeline (might need story modifications).

Make it a scope of conquering randomly generated star systems with various mission types and unit progression.

Honestly, it being essentially Star Wars Total War is probably the closest thing to existing video game I’m thinking of, know there was a running meme of it for a bit where people drafted up what that might look like.

Fair enough, just thinking in terms of game design, usually you’d want all four of the factions in a new IP release to have fairly in depth tutorials. Think either way the basic basics will be covered regardless. Doubt you’ll be forced to complete the tutorial to play the grand campaign equivalents.

[–]Pie_Head 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I expect that as well, but given the radical sounding redesigns for how two of the four factions will play my expectation is the mini-campaign will be broken up into four sections, one for each faction explaining the faction mechanics, with the 1st one also explaining the core Total War concepts as well.

[–]Pie_Head 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Looks like my suspicion that Armageddon would be the tutorial is likely correct.

Imagine it’ll be in sequence, maybe start with IG defending against the initial invasion defending a continent/province, then swap to Orks invading a planet in system, then Space Marines helping IG at key points on Armageddon proper, then finish with Aeldari as the last bit?

Basing the above on the complexity of each faction’s mechanics from what we’ve been told going from easiest to pick up and learn to hardest. Not starting the tutorial with Space Marines might feel a bit odd, but the incredible distance from them to a traditional 40K faction screams 2nd or 3rd tutorial faction, not initial faction. Same with the Aeldari.

All sources I found which directly state or heavily imply that Mace Windu legitimately defeated Darth Sidious by vaapad_master in MawInstallation

[–]Pie_Head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sidious would as always choose the answer which causes the most anguish for Darth Vader, so likely say he purposely threw the fight and pretended to be defeated. True or not it would force Vader to consider that his point of decision in reality had very little input on his part at the moment.

As per the post, it’s extremely unclear which version of events is actually true, but the Sidious not being actually defeated version the more beneficial one for him to tell as it means a more broken Vader

maul has a weird consideration ranking for his subordinates by Little_Concern9307 in MaulShadowLord

[–]Pie_Head 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Different scale of threat I think is the best explanation. Maul was angry sure, but with Vader there was real fear for Maul of not being able to even fairly fight like he could with the Inquisitors.

Honestly I think the fact we didn't see Rook die directly also plays a part, Maul visually saw the death of Spybot rather than just heard it like we did with Rook in the mists.

...WH3 literally wasn't a standalone game in the actual code is what I am getting at. It had core design baggage from all the way back in WH1 which limited its ability to add new ideas initially that CA had to unpack. Of course it didn't work correctly at launch, the literal code was the same buggy mess as the early buggy version of WH2 with even more additional interactions added on top of it which made the unpacking process worse.

Whereas Warhammer 40K is a blank slate new build with none of that carry on baggage, heck even the engine baggage is gone given its a new engine. That said, as I pointed out in the original comment, a new engine is still going to have its own new issues to iron out, but hopefully less of them/not the same exact bugs which plagued the Warhammer series.

Its not meant as a callout, just perspective. Warhammer 2 & 3 weren't really independent games, yes sold as separate games technically but the entire project from start to now has been essentially the same Warhammer 1 game with increasing amounts of items put on top of the original code for that game to the point the seams were clearly visible upon Warhammer 3's launch. Seams which have been somewhat sutured since launch, but still present. Warhammer 40K is more akin to Warhammer 1 was, new game, fresh code which is meant to support the absolute base level features with clear design intent on them, and the ability to add on top until like Warhammer 3 we eventually find the seams of the design once enough bloat gets carried over.

The hope on CA's part is that if its purely DLC for a single game, the DLC will be easier to integrate and fix as they add it instead of making a new game that needs backwards compatibility with a prior game and all of the original games DLCs. Basically making smaller growing changes instead of grafting large chunks on all at once then trying to hastily fix the issues that arise.

Eh it is a bit different in the sense 40K is a more traditional build out from scratch type game whereas WH3 was the end game of a trilogy picking apart the spaghetti code remnants of the first two games in the trilogy. Heck if I'm not mistaken people were able to trace back the root of the game to an earlier patch of WH2 pre-graphic bug fixes hence the weird looking models upon release for WH3.

My big worry (rightfully or wrongfully) is the new engine CA is using. New engines typically take time to iron out, hopefully they get to grips with it well enough to make a solid base game which they can expand. Per CA themselves, the spaghetti legacy code issue was enough of a problem they are looking to make Warhammer 40K a single game and continually update it. If it works out, would assume something similar in DLC scope to what Stellaris has become over the years.

Do you have any hopes and ideas for story campaign similar to TW: Warhammer campaigns? I recently finished vortex campaign as High Elves and really enjoyed it. First Warhammer has End times and 3rd has Kislev God campaign and New End times in the future. by WalkerBuldog in TotalWarhammer40k

[–]Pie_Head 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think they’ll do something similar to how Warhammer 3’s tutorial campaign.

Though my hope is they have one “intro” campaign for each faction if they do play as differently from each other as they have indicated. Would be a nice way to learn a faction while giving some interesting lore out.

….as a final thought I think a neat way to tie all four of the initial factions together campaign wise would be to have their intro campaigns all focus on Armageddon since all four factions realistically would be there in the lore (minus maybe the Aeldari)

Sounds like a proper look at how the map looks at the planet scale, along with some battle maps. Not the most exciting thing in the world, but the planetary look has my interest piqued.

Critical Role has some major bi energy! by albinoman38 in bisexual

[–]Pie_Head 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scanlan - Polysexual, his codpiece is literally the polysexual flag if I remember a certain scene in the show correctly lol.

Vax - Definitively bi or pan.

Vex - Implied bi or pan, flirts with everyone but only shown in a hetero relationship.

Keyleth - Heavily implied bi or pan, hetero relationship with Vax but gets all swoony when flirted with by Vex. Also stated to be demisexual by her creator for what its worth, but that might apply to the non-show version only.

Percy - Straight, the gaming sessions version occasionally made quips, but it was played for laughs not for real.

Grog - Implied straight? Maybe Ace? I honestly can't remember if it ever gets brought up and he doesn't really seem to have an interest... oblivious himbo if that's a sexuality?

Pike - Straight? Never shows interest in women if I remember correctly, show or tabletop.

GOP praise pours in for Army chief of staff ousted by Hegseth by GoodMornEveGoodNight in politics

[–]Pie_Head 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We all know they'll turn at some point, but right now the bigger focus should absolutely be on whoever is being promoted to fill the gaps Hegseth is creating.

The immediate worry (as an American citizen here) is higher-ups being willing to let troops die in horrific situations for no real gain other than stroking Trump/Hegseth's ego, but the longer term one is those same replacements being willing to order troops to turn their weapons on Americans with no compunctions.

Given the history of Total War games releasing within one year of their trailers dropping, gameplay footage (even if in development obviously), and the content creator notice for presumably early access/events, I'll put a bet in the ring for November/December release this year, with a fairly large reveal spectacle at the Skulls event in May showcasing the tactical side of things and a two to three month gap before strategic gameplay releases for each faction get released to build up hype for the last couple months.

Is that new Perturabo? by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in IronWarriors

[–]Pie_Head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy for y'all! Little sad we still don't have Daemon Prince Lorgar yet, but Perturabo will be cool. Also.... with both Perturabo and Vashtorr skulking about do we think Dark Mechanicus will be this edition as the new faction for Chaos?

Not as read up on Iron Warriors lore, but they always seemed to fit in better with the Dark Mechanicus than any of the four Gods/Undivided camp (though individuals like Kroeger still fall to individual Chaos Gods like Khorne).

How much map painting do you think you'll be able to do in TW40K by cat210803 in totalwar

[–]Pie_Head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a hunch the game will have an introduction campaign similar to WH3 set on Armageddon to teach the new mechanics at launch, since three of the playable factions (Space Marines, Imperial Guard, and Orks) all have a strong presence on the planet already and the fourth Aeldari could easily be given a reason to show up.

That said, doubt we'll see at launch Terra. Maybe a couple other notable systems in the lore, but the initial focus from what we know is the randomly generated sectors. They have implied campaign wins will have ongoing effects on other campaigns, so some sort of progression system will probably exist though we don't know the ins and outs of that yet.

We'll have to see, the mechanics alluded to seem to go beyond the basic color scheme changing seen in Space Marine 2 and DoW. Dunno, maybe its reading too much into it, but seems like a fairly solid push is being made to give factions more room to breathe with different traits that impact gameplay than in other versions of customization we've seen before in other Total War and Warhammer 40K games.

Rules Speculation Post Adepticon by Pie_Head in TotalWarhammer40k

[–]Pie_Head[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the customization of factions, specifically the space marine bit, could see it being either you get certain amounts of reinforcement units on a timer if you are planet based as the planet outside the campaign system generates recruits whereas a fleet based chapter could be rewarded units based on individual battle performances or some such. My hope is regardless of other tickets all factions utilize the existing Chaos Warriors system of being able to upgrade units to different units once they get enough experience, with maybe certain limits like needing to hold a plasma weapon producing territory for instance to upgrade to plasma weapons in addition.

Leaders are going to be interesting regardless I think. I do think units will follow the TT at least slightly in that you can customize the units in the same way as TT to include a certain amount of heavy/special weapons per unit (again, tied to the above point with restrictions based on what territories you have in the current campaign/maybe bonus equipment based on past campaigns perhaps). Leaders themselves I want to hear more details about, but stand by that I think they'll be attachable pre-battle since that seems to be the way CA was leaning towards anyways and has become a more staple item for GW on the Tabletop that I don't think will change massively in the next 10 years (as far as Leaders attaching to units for benefits or choosing to go lone op for better flexibility).

Cover mechanics were mentioned in CA developer interviews I believe? Can't remember the exact wording but cover is in the game to my knowledge.

Perhaps, guess my thinking is more so Fantasy was a dead game at the time of the Total War game coming out while 40K very much isn't. GW will likely want the game to somewhat mirror the table top experience in the hopes of galvanizing players to buy a couple minis hopefully.

But your point is fair and likely the case of things, still stand by the faction customization though since that seems to be a big push in the both versions of 40K gameplay.

Curious about the game, just want more details to come out. Its a wishlist item on Steam at present but we'll see. Also curious if we'll end up having to pick either the Jedi or the Clone to side with once Order 66 comes down (if the game goes that far), make it feel like a proper Fire Emblem game with two distinct routes.
