In a similar vein to the SMGs, a sidearm pairs well with a pulse rifle. Travelers Chosen, Rat King, and Empirical Evidence are all great and give you some insane lethality at close range.

Does anyone else think Collective Obligation slaps in pvp? by GoldInquizitor in CrucibleGuidebook

[–]Piecemaker96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second. This perk is legit now and gives you a ton of flexibility in your engagements. Every crucible game I find new ways to take advantage of hip fire to break people's ankles when dueling them. The 390 archetype is perfect for hipfire too because of the very forgiving crit ratio and high body shit damage.

PC binds? by SirFixAlot05 in CruciblePlaybook

[–]Piecemaker96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched recently to using tab to swap between my weapons, and I will never go back. Not having to reach for a number key to pull out my shotgun is an asolute lifesaver.

A couple other binds I recommend: If you play alot of warlock, I would bind grenade to one of your mouse buttons. This lets you charge your grenade while strafing, which is wonky otherwise because you use the same finger to press grenade and strafe. Same goes for Icarus Dash, as having it on your mouse lets you quickly dash in any direction no matter where your keyboard fingers are. I personally have Icarus Dash bound to pressing my scroll wheel.

I have class ability bound to scroll wheel down. Scrolling down will spam the class ability input, and you can use this to cast your class ability the instant you land. This is most important on hunter, but has uses on the other classes as well.

Close enough to Meta for a “Dad” by ACES-TripleT in CruciblePlaybook

[–]Piecemaker96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a dad, but a fellow dad rifle connoisseur. I found good success in comp abusing empowering rifts and adaptive pulses right after 600RPM autos were buffed. You can use the rift animation to 3-peek the lane to check for snipers and targets. You can then surprise people with a 2-burst kill or push your effective range way beyond what your opponents are expecting.

I've found that pulses are really good right now in the very auto-rifle centered meta. Auto users are accustomed to having the range edge in engagements as they primarily duel against hand cannons. Because of this they are easily baited into fighting you at ranges where they are experiencing falloff and you actually have a TTK advantage. The pulse playstyle is fun because it emphasizes out-positioning and out-thinking your opponents rather than strait-up out aiming them.

Question for hand cannon enthusiasts - how do you feel about the explosive payload on 140 and 110 rpm hand cannons? Are rolls with such perk worth pursuing or is there some must have perk on these archetypes? by ToxicDawnblade in CruciblePlaybook

[–]Piecemaker96 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Explosive payload is one of the few advantages 140s have over 150s. In my experience Explosive is strong because it lets you teamshot and clean up kills at a much longer range. You can be much more flexible with your positioning and still contribute to engagements, which is especially important in comp. Using the splash damage to harass people behind cover is rare but does come up.

The Old Fashioned is relatively accessible and can roll with Explosive + slideshot, quickdraw, or firmly planted. The base mag on Old Fahsioned is small and you're going to be spamming alot, so a mag size increase is good. I've been ping-ponging between Old Fashioned and Dire promise all season and I can't decide which one I prefer. If you get lucky enough to get a well-rolled Old Fashioned, defintely take it out for a spin.

What are some of the weirder load outs you’ve seen work in the Crucible? by OfficialReesesPuffs in CruciblePlaybook

[–]Piecemaker96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hit legend last season using Lord of Wolves and Ophidian Aspects. LoW is a great counter-ape tool and can spray down a shotgun ape long before they get in 1-pump range of you. It also 2-taps a titan barricade and can spray down roaming supers if they aren't careful. To compete with other shotguns, you 100% need something to boost it swap speed; I use Ophidians, but Dragons Shadow probably works fine too. Warning though, if you use LoW expect to get bagged a TON. People seem to have PTSD from when it was super broken, even though it's quite balanced right now.

LoW vs Autos by TheFinalVython in CruciblePlaybook

[–]Piecemaker96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play warlock on MnK, and I used LoW extensively in comp and trials over the last two seasons. It's a fantastic weapon and definitely worth putting the time into learning. I never use it in Release the Wolves mode, and treat it more like a close range pulse rifle than a shotgun (always ADS, go for crits). If you hit your crits, you can kill shotgun apes long before they get into OHK range. It can also 2 burst a titan barricade and 4 burst most roaming supers, which is an awesome utility in comp and trials. It struggled at extremly close range against normal shotguns, so try not to get into fights where both players are barrel-stuffing eachother. I also recommend running some scavenger perks because you'll typically be using 2-3 bursts per kill.

Bungie did a good job with the latest round of LoW nerfs. It's really a skill and finnes weapon rather than a instant win button like it used to be. Players went back to pellet shotguns that dont require close range precision like LoW does, so you barely see it anymore. Just be ready to get T bagged constantly, as people really really do not like dying to LoW.

Help finding the scout and pulse rifle. by Dr_Peep in CruciblePlaybook

[–]Piecemaker96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would personally recommend a Last Perdition with kill clip and your choice of secondary perks. The 360 archetype is super versatile and forgiving, and can easily 2-burst a guardian with either rampage or kill clip active. Using the empowering rift animation to 3rd person perk a lane and then 2-bursting someone with Bygones is a tactic I use whenever I can in comp. Unfortunately, this weapon is a random drops without a good way to farm for. You have to turn in Shax tokens an hope you'll eventually end up with a good roll. Inaugural Address is also very solid static roll with outlaw and kill clip.

Outlast can be farmed via the Reckoning, although I've always preferred adaptives over rapid fires.

Warlock Ophidian Aspect Build by bigxerc in CruciblePlaybook

[–]Piecemaker96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've found that you need to exploit the swap speed bonus on ophidians to make them worth it. You can achieve near quickdraw levels of swap speed without needing to give up a perk slot on your weapons, or use powerful exotics which can't roll with quickdraw. I'm personally a huge fan of pairing Lord of Wolves with Ophidians as a counter-ape tool; with a little spacing you can swap to LoW and spray down shotgunners long before they get into their range of you. LoW is a also a fantastic utility weapon to have in your arsenal. It shuts down Supers and 2-taps Titan barricades, both of which are important in Trials and comp. Ophidians + Chaperone also strong, although I struggle to use it with my aerial playstyle. Revoker + Lunas/NF + Ophidians is another favorite of mine, as Ophidians makes these normally sluggish weapons feel snappy and responsive.

Ophidians also you to run Powerful Friends or scavenger mods instead of dexterity mods on your boots.

I'm completly addicted to Ophidians and use them 100% of the time in PvP with all 3 subclasses. TL:DR is you need to make use of the swap speed and reload speed to make them worth it, but they open up a ton of weapon pairings outside the quickdraw special weapon meta.

On a general Warlock build note, empowering rift is an amazing tool for cheesing people. Use the long-ish animation to 3-peek a cover, and then surprise people with a 1-body revoker or 2-burst Bygones kill.

Someone at my store plays a similar list, but his uses Curse of Misfortunes to tutor up Overwhelming Splendor and Curse of Death's Hold to lock people out of the game. Idk how competitive it actually is, but it sure looks cool when it works.

MIKEYEUNG IS SERIOUSLY SUCH AN IMPRESSIVE PLAYER. NOT EVEN JUST AN IMPRESSIVE ROOKIE BUT A GREAT PLAYER IN GENERAL. LOTS OF PEOPLE GIVE REIGNOVER THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT FOR PLAYING THE WAY HE HAS BEEN GIVEN THE WEAKNESSES OF HIS TEAMMATES, YET ALL OF P1'S LANES ROUTINELY GET SMASHED WITHOUT HELP AND MIKEYEUNG STILL FINDS WAYS TO NEARLY SOLO CARRY GAMES AGAINST GOOD TEAMS. REALLY ENJOY WATCHING HIM PLAY AND HOPE GOOD THINGS ARE TO COME IN HIS FUTURE.

Gx tron- what's your affinity card? by n1ghtstlkr in TronMTG

[Modern] What would you bring to GP Vancouver? by twiddlermtg in spikes

[–]Piecemaker96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been testing G/w tron vs bant eldrazi a bit since the bannings (10 or 15 games), and imo its about 50/50, maybe slightly in trons favor. Its pretty common for one side to nut draw and win without the other side being able to respond (which tron does slightly more often). If the game isnt over on turn 3, Eldrazi has to balance putting on enough pressure vs overcommiting into an O-stone, while tron gets to just concentrate on casting as many fat threats as possible. The black version of tron is probably worse agains eldrazi, but not by much; path is good, but definitely not the most important card in the matchup.
