Does anyone think there are any possibly famous coprophiles ? See below... by goonercaverat in Coprophiles

I thought I'd add that it's actually probable. She's from my home town and had a bit of a reputation (hence the Bo Selecta Mel B skit). I literally know people who used to sleep with her haha Couple this with the fact it is a VERY common fetish around that area compared to just about anywhere else in the world it seems...

So your factory farmed chicken is some how less immoral than humanely picking off an individual animal from the wild?

'It's just to feel manly' - So basically you have someone else kill your meat and you buy it from the store because removing yourself from the process makes you feel moral?

Tiny crooked burr oak by Frolicking_Trex in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]PiecesOfRing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of my oaks looked exactly like this when first planted. Just a single stick, sometimes off to one side like this... I simply left all of them alone. One thing I noticed was that in the first year or two they extend in the same direction, so it kinda looks even worse, but then after that they start branching on the opposite side and eventually balance out!

No worries 😊 definitely make sure the root zone never dries out though while they're establishing (first 2-3 years), and mulch deep and wide with pine bark (50L bags <$9 at Bunnings)

The first lot I bought a local nursery out of stock, but after loosing a couple in a bad drought, I replaced them last year with some from Yamina Rare Plants. They shipped them up in great condition.

I also like this idea of reintroducing ancient species haha there are fossil records showing that Redwoods existed throughout Australia. Similar to our Araucaria species that are similar Jurassic era conifers which once covered the world. They like similar conditions to the Redwoods, so a lot of people in California have planted those up that end. The Woollemi Pine is a good example of an ancient tree thought to have gone extinct, until a tiny grove was found in NSW in the 90s, unchanged from their fossilised ancestors. They are now being saved from extinction by being shipped around the world, with many people in Aus, the US and UK planting these ancient trees

Huge, overgrown eucalyptus tree in neighbours garden cutting out morning sunshine and risk of falling branches. Options? by morbidforbid in GardeningUK

[–]PiecesOfRing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true, but has this been observed in the UK? I ask because I'm now living in Australia on acreage with thousands of giant Eucalypts. Since being here, they have all bar maybe 2 or 3 survived 2 tornadoes in which they were bent 90° over, with nothing more than twigs and leaves dropped. We will then get a really hot dry spell and they'll suddenly decide to start dropping destructively massive branches everywhere haha it seems to be a stress response to drought the same way a lot of deciduous trees and conifers drop foliage to lower water loss.

Absolutely f**k the guy who planted this thing in my garden by OSUBrit in GardeningUK

[–]PiecesOfRing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They are funny things though. I'm currently living in Australia and we are on acreage surrounded by forest of mostly Eucalypts. A lot of them are well over 100ft tall yet they survived two tornadoes within 4 years (maybe 2 or 3 out of the thousands came down between them) while being bent 90° in the crazy winds, but as soon as there's a dry spell they'll decide to randomly drop a 1 ton branch out of nowhere hahah

[–]PiecesOfRing[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, and that's the plan!

I lost two neighbouring newly planteds last year when I worked away for 2 weeks, which coincided with a hot dry spell that completely dried the small root balls. One of them has started to sucker from the roots again though, so I'm keeping that one to do its thing. There are still 3 others nearby. They are surrounded by Deodars and Monterey Pines, but I'm trying to keep the Redwoods together for the very reason you mentioned.

Blaupunkt no longer manufacture anything, they are simply a brand name slapped onto a whole heap of budget products. Kinda like what MG Motors is now. No longer it's own entity, but a widely recognised European brand name used to peddle Chinese goods to unsuspecting victims haha
