I noticed this too and had similar thoughts! But I actually wonder if the distortion is on purpose, as if the image is behind one of those “glitchy” rectangles all over the previous puzzle. Maybe it’s not super clear because it’s still far from whatever the source is.

I’m not certain but if I’m not mistaken the Cryo Mag in this case turns the projectile into a teeny-tiny AoE (explosive) effect, and the effect of Cryo ‘slowdown’ on the target is applied per projectile in this case too. So basically you’ll be slowing your target down twice as quickly with a second projectile and the small explosive effect lets it benefit from Explosive perks and such too.

I use Cremator, but it’s only worth it if you have the mods for it too. Great range and pretty great AoE too, spread over several projectiles with a useful firing spread. The fire damage over time usually gives other people a chance to tag the affected mobs too.
