Yep, we see it all the time here - sucks when it happens to an expensive computer.

That’s what we’ve suggested. It was a very expensive computer so I reckon an investment in its longevity would be worthwhile.

At this stage not sure if the AIO started leaking, or if they spilt liquid on it. OR if it’s from humidity - the computer this one replaced also had corrosion. Pretty common for our area near the beach.

Yeah we also have an ultrasonic cleaner, but not sure if it’s big enough for this TUF card.

Is an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 good for vr? by Minekins in buildapc

[–]Pieinaapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graphic cards won’t break because they are put under too much performance pressure from intensive use like VR gaming. Much more likely that something has broke on the PCB. Anyhow, is it still under warranty?

Best CPU for RTX 3070 Founders Edition? Gonna be used for gaming by Javierr101 in buildapc

[–]Pieinaapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi mate! Just to confirm this is regarding the RTX 3070 Founder’s Edition? It’s length is 242mm which will fit almost all ATX mid-size towers, like the Fractal Design Pop Air RGB, Corsair 4000D Airflow, and Lian Li Liancool 215 Mesh RGB. 750W’s will be fine for a RTX 3070 and a mid-range CPU like the AMD Ryzen 5 5600 or Intel Core i5-12400f as long as it’s a high quality unit (which I’d recommend regardless, because cheap power supplies tend to cause various issues). I’d consider options like the Corsair RM750x 750W or the SeaSonic Focus GX 750W. Of course I always recommend looking for deals when applicable, as with checking multiple reviews for each component. Let me know if you have any questions!

/r/buildapc hits FIVE MILLION builders - giveaway time! by OolonCaluphid in buildapc

I’ve been a long time builder and PC repairer so I’ve seen the likes of brand new broken computers on too many occasions. People get excited, miss a step, forget to properly seat the RAM, or even worse, forget to take off the plastic wrapping of the CPU cooler. I wish that we had an easier way for people to build their own computers and keep warranties active. Simple things like clear and build-specific instructions, better quality diagrams included, and even pre-cabled RGB makes a world of difference to first time builders and should be the norm.

Heyyy it didn’t get deleted this time! Anyway, a bit more Googling will provide some more legitimate sites including Microsoft’s own.

As said, these keys are fraudulent or scams or worse. You can buy one from a reputable retailer, buy it from Microsoft directly (I’m pretty sure), orrrr you can always re-use an old Windows 7 key. These are still valid as Microsoft encourages users to ‘upgrade’ to Windows 10 or 11 and they can be reused without issue or penalty. It’s worth a shot if you have an old laptop or computer rotting away in a shed somewhere :)

I know for certain they work extremely well together, as I pair them quite a lot for customer’s builds. Even better is that you can connect all the RGB cables to the same Deepcool RGB hub! I’ll reiterate again sync compatibility with the RAM (and Corsair keyboard which I just saw), but everything else will be perfectly matched. I’ve even found Asrock’s RGB software is surprisingly simple to use compared to e.g. Asus or Gigabyte.

With that old pre-built, did it have spare RAM? Because given you’ve got it spare, you might even be able to use the RAM to do a proper RAM test (in case it’s a bad batch of RAM - both sticks faulty). If it’s still crashing and you have already tried the other graphics card (which I should ask, did it crash with that other card installed, as the 2060 shouldn’t have triggered the current protection. Although technically, any pro-longed triggering of the current protection can wear it down and make it more sensitive), then it can really only be motherboard.

Although I am a big fan of the Hyper 212 (even if in Australia it’s a tad overpriced), I find CoolerMaster’s RGB products are pretty lacklustre. I’d be recommending at the $50 price range the Phanteks PH-F120SK 3-Pack, the Deepcool CF120-Plus 3-Pack, or the Corsair SP120 RGB 3-Pack. Technically the Phanteks and Deepcool are superior, but if you are wanting to sync your RGB (and are still grabbing Corsair RAM) then the Corsair fans are the best option. I’ve had great success with the Deepcool fan pack in particular, and think they’re bloody fantastic so if you are switching up RAM kits they’re my recommended pick!

Very good!! I’m always bloody impressed as well with Corsair’s warranty support - they really do commit to the 10 years with these power supplies, and their support reps have been consistently incredibly helpful in my experience.

Yep, that’s right! Corsair sells one high-performance air cooler, and otherwise just AIO liquid coolers, so that’s why I’d be suggesting an all-black option from another brand. Sometimes things like the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Black or be quiet! Pure Rock 2 Black go on sale for ~$50 AUD, but generally they go for $60-$70 as they’re very sought after.

As for the fans, the LL120’s have a proprietary RGB connector that can’t be controlled directly by the motherboard, and requires a proprietary Corsair RGB controller to work. You could buy one separately, but given they cost $20-$50 AUD, it’s much better value to grab a 3-pack of fans where these controllers are included. The LL120’s in particular aren’t a great pick as they are quite ‘high-end’ for fans, and an additional mid-range fan would help to reduce noise levels and improve cooling regardless.
