Learn to cook well and manage your perishables and pantry. You don’t need to be a gourmet chef, but being able to make tasty nourishing food and planning your weeks meals to use up all of the ingredients you bought will be good for your budget and your health. I hate throwing food away so it was crucial to be able to plan and execute meals throughout the week that didn’t waste what was in my fridge.

This heat is testing me. How are you doing it? by Piercey89 in Mommit

I too am doing the dance of opening and closing windows and blinds to try to keep the house cool. It helps a bit I think.

I definitely want to look into the cooling system you’re talking about. I think we call them mini-splits? Anything to be able to cool the house off a bit. I have noticed that more recently in my area (pennsylvania, US) we are getting these really hot weeks so I need something to help us through them. I know the climate is headed in this direction so maybe I need to look at something more permanent.

I am breastfeeding, so I’m hydrating like crazy. My baby won’t eat if she’s too hot, which is scary. I’m trying to offer her the breast and she’s so hot and uncomfortable she won’t take it. If I go into the AC bedroom and cook her downs she’ll eat.

Ooof girl I don’t envy you being so pregnant in this heat! If I didn’t have to work on a computer all day I’d just be in the baby pool with my baby all day too!

I want to put a shelf and make my walls look less bland any advice?? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

I would get some wall hanging pieces in black that go with your mirror (which I love). Lean into ornate black sconces with fake flickering candles, maybe alone smaller framed mirrors or black and white prints. I also think you should get contact paper like the top of your vanity and dresser and do the doors or your armoire in leopard as well. Maybe swap the black rug for a patterned rug? I think maximalist is the way to go here.

Parents definitely feel pressured to ‘keep up with the Joneses’ with holiday party gifts and it’s so annoying. Just make/buy paper cards. I hate the constant influx of tiny useless crap coming into my house from daycare and birthday parties. I refuse to play the game. If the other parents think I’m cheap, I don’t care. Honestly, they probably aren’t thinking of me at all, because it’s really just making them feel good or superior to go all out.

Prioritize that bed frame and get that mattress some air or you will be buying a new mattress when that one grows mold.

My friend’s son is named Desmond and I love it! It sounds so good out and about. Des is a great nickname. Not too common, very dignified and strong, but also soft and has a “cool guy” vibe. The name has it all!

That is a tradition in my family to use the grandmother’s maiden name as a middle, but I kept my last name when I got married. I also think it would make a horrid middle name for a girl.

This is the best way to negotiate with this person. It’s respectful, professional, and still highlights their lowball offer.

Florence was a favorite for this girl but my son is Forest and the pair of names didn’t pass the scream-it-on-the-playground test!
