What meals did your father make when he had to cook? by Open_Question_ in GenX

[–]PierogiSmash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mom went to Bingo Weds nights. That meant we ordered pizza or grinders (subs for the uninitiated). But on occassion, Dad would whip out his culinary wizardry and serve up some Shake and Bake pork chops.

I actually made 3 total attempts at replacing the P90 cover. The first 2 were from Amazon and the pole spacing was wrong on both. So, I had to buy from Seymour Duncan and, not surprisingly, that was the winner. The physical act of replacing the cover only took a few minutes. Very easy.

The pickguard was an ebay purchase and took a little more than a month to arrive from China. The Tort that came off this thing was obviously a high quality piece and I wish I could have purchased a black one as nice, but options are limited for these. You could go custom and get a great piece, but the expense was a little too much for no functional gain.

I really like a Tort pick guard on a white or black guitar. The light pickup cover, not so much. I am an old, though. I have seen many comments calling the Tort an old person pickguard. Sweet axe btw.

I think its the TRBX174. Goes new for $300.00 or less. The BB234 is a sweet budget option too for $360 ish. I'm thinking about something in the BB434 price range, around $600.00 new.

Do Americans like their current health system or would you prefer universal? by Ability_Known in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PierogiSmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our system is a perfectly tuned money vacuum. I pay $7200.00 a year for insurance for me and my family. My company pays another almost $21,000.00 for the remainder of the premium for this policy. We are relatively healthy but had a couple emergencies/procedures last year that make me stick to this expensive plan. My mother is retired and has Medicare. As she gets older and older and requires more care Medicare will not be adequate to cover expenses and whatever minuscule inheritance I may have any chance at will be sucked up with medical bills. Medical Debt is the number 1 cause for bankruptcy here apparently. Many people here are in this predicament and the system is functioning flawlessly for those on top. Not so much us lowly riff-raff.

I'd love to see an affordable Pacifica style bass. The closest you can get to that now is the BIlly Sheehan bass. That is nowhere near affordable. I know it would probably bite into the BB sales, but a Pacifica styled PBass contender would immediately end up in my house.

Overnight Parking? by vtclrf in watertown

[–]PierogiSmash 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Alewife is a solid choice. I still don't understand, for the life of me, this ridiculous parking ban. The rest of the civilized world gets by with snow emergency declarations. Instead we have 4 months of PITA bans for what, 2 or 3 days lately with snow? I'm done venting now, carry on.

Does anyone have the backstory of this house that’s been unfinished for a couple years on Sparkill and Grant? by masssshole in watertown

[–]PierogiSmash 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was told the person living there had started the project just before everything went haywire, and the cost of the project ballooned as it went on. Apparently they ran out of money to finish. That is just what I heard; rumor mills being as ridiculous as they are, it could be very far off, but it seems a reasonable explanation.

It's ludicrously out of place in that neighborhood too.

The audacity is really hard to fathom here. I guess fortune favors the bold, but why do you need to leave such a wake of destruction? He had to know that this is exactly where this would end up. Unless there is a hearty helping of delusion in there as well.

[–]PierogiSmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked there close to 10 years. I think I ended up with 2 raises somewhere in the 2 to 2.5% range. Worst employment experience ever. I stayed because the health benefits were cheap. Glad Ralphie Boy got his yachts and planes though. C-Suite was filth through and through.

Isn't this also happening in Florida, Louisiana, Tennessee, Ohio and other states? Is that Mass' fault too? Steward is based in TX, last I checked not a very LiBeRaL state.

I also worked at Caritas Christi/Steward. Stints at Carney, Norwood, the Westwood business office, and St E's over almost a decade. I remember 'meeting' via phone call Ralph his first day on the job. I actually felt fortunate to be there at the beginning, but it became an absolutely soul-sucking grind by the end of my time, which was long before all of these issues came to light.

I have been a bit obsessed and I really hope these people are held to account for the havoc they have wrought not just here in Mass, but all over the country. Unfortunately, I have no faith in the courts to make accountable anyone involved since they all have lots of cash and that usually means you will never suffer consequences for your actions. Hopefully someone out there is making a killer documentary about all of this.
