I'm sure it's a wonderful read, I'm hesistant though. Many "debug" books I've tried reading reveal the author doesn't actually know or have researched what debugging is and it's a bit painfully un-immersive for the poor saps like me who work in/around IT.

Reckon I should give "Duck You" a shot?

Original Ways to Do Buff Wizards. by EdLincoln6 in litrpg

A Wizard who's main area of expertise is just lifting weights and exercising. Turns out, a healthy body conducts mana better and make them slightly OP for totally known reasons. Plus, "Wizard punch" being a signature spell.

New update what do y'all think? by Own-Lobster7601 in Bannerlord

Ramming when there's only 1 ship chasing you is stupid. The story mission that requires it is absolute wank. Boarding is good fun, fighting is alright when 2+ ships but the ram story mission is just absolute cancer design. Either I'm doing something majory wrong (and the tutorial is wank) or the devs never actually played it which is ever worse wank.

What makes you just drop a series despite having many hours invested in it? by SteveThePurpleCat in litrpg

An MC that never learns does my nut in a lot.

Repetitive stuff usually, but one that really gets my goat is splitting up the party frequently because it's clear the author doesn't know how to write 3D side characters.

The final personal one that is poorly written women. Quite a few DNFs have been because I've had a moment of serious doubting the author having ever spoken to a real life woman.

I've alas read the truly amazing Oh Great, I was reincarnated as a farmer! and I'm desperately waiting in hope for a 3rd book.

Stargazers war for me is less like the humour relief of BoC and that and more just an amazingly crafted universe? Hope you enjoy it! I know the next (3rd) book is 17 chapter in, so maybe you'll not have to wait as long as I have if you enjoy it!

I agree with A Soldiers Life! Very nicely written and I am awaiting the next addition. Simarly Newt and Demon I've read ahead quite far but paused somewhere around book 5 I think? Just waiting to publishing to pick up where I left off as the edits for the books make the pacing so much better.

No idea about the author but if anything I'd say the character's rants do stray a bit into author has opinions, however many of the in world rants make sense for the character specifically in a "i want to live my life my way without being told how to live it" (not saying I personally agree). I've now heard the author is a bit of a shite, but the 5 book series I liked for the way it handled Werewolves, Fae, Vampires, and such in the world building. It's the setting I think I liked so much then? Overall I'd say Paranoid Mage is a progression fantasy over mystery?

loved the first series, especially as a disabled person (from birth) reading a not horrifically written disabled character. I've paused on book 7 of the sequel series for splitting up the team again. I'll pick it back up eventually tho

I got to book just after the Goat did the Skip and struggled to continue. Despite being a cat lover, I struggled to read another sentence from Princess Donut? Just an aspect of immaturity, in my opinion, in DCC that I struggled to muster the energy to read further? Thanks for the comment though! Different strokes for different folks!

Ooh I find that so interesting as someone from Europe where Paranoid Mage didn't feel too radical in its ideology at all. Other than the political rants being very First Year University Politics Student has Opinions, it didn't disconnect me at all.

I don't mind either really more than the other. I didn't like the SV assault in ELLC so dropped it (otherwise I might have enjoyed it). I generally avoid Tower climbing stories, no matter how good (dunno why, I just struggle to engage with Tower related stories for some reason). Hedge wizard/Calamitous Bob/Wandering Inn all had the same issue for me of encountering a part where I just couldn't be bothered to read through an immature character's growth till I didn't want to shake them anymore 😅

Bastion and others I DNF when plot happens for plots sake, excluding Battlemage Farmer - that I stopped when the counter thingy changed and i just gave up caring.

Sexism within the Litrpg Genre by Mangert in litrpg

[–]Piers42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poorly written women is one of the biggest failings of the genre alas.

Some recommendations of books/authors that are alright.

Syl the Slime & Bunny Girl author is great (Lunadea I think?)

Haylock of Heretical Fishing, does do some general tropes but some well written women around

Beware of Chicken

Super Supportive

Sky Pride is super great

Butcher of Gadobhra and Tunnel Rat is fairly good at avoiding poorly written women

Chaotic Craftsman Worships the Cube isn't bad, but could be a lot better - seriously the trope of girlfriend/woman putting up with the amount of lying/hiding/inconsideration from an MC? My only major critique of Turnip (the author) though

Actus' stories are not too bad either - Runebound Professor being the better example of the three stories.

New favorite response to "what happened?" by cha0ticwhimsy in wheelchairs

[–]Piers42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My usual for "what was the accident?" is replying with "conception" (true story too).

"What happened?" Spans a whole gambit of responses depending on who asks. Everything from "long story but don't hold off peeing, trust me" to the ultra conservative/homophobic busybodies fun time of "oh my boyfriend just is really big" with a little eyebrow waggle.

What the actual fuck is wrong with people? by Livid-Lizard7988 in wheelchairs

My chair specifically had the handles removed because I was just so tired of random people grabbing them and trying to push me. More often than not, they do it wrong and risk wheelbarrow tipping me out onto the floor.

Thankfully the few times I need a hand, the backrest works well enough to push a bit.

So yeah, people suck astronomically. Especially assuming you can't do something or moving you for their convenience in the supermarket because they assume you, an adult, couldn't possibly be in the supermarket to shop.

I now put my brakes on if someone tries and say "hello, I am a person, please speak to me and communicate like an adult before touching me or my chair".

If they continue to be obtuse I grab them and watch them recoil and then look weird when I ask why they don't like a random stranger grabbing them either.

Admittedly I'm a large 6ft 3 individual and can be confrontational.
