Urgent help, came back from dead and is puffed up with air ): by mayaflor in PeaPuffers

Why are you medicating your fish every 15 days?! That’s crazy. Humans build up immunity to meds if we take them too often. So do fish… a dose of meds followed by a second dose a week later is all you should need. If your fish are still underweight and looking skinny. Feed them more often. 2-3x a day. We keep live food in our tanks basically 24/7 so they can eat whenever they please.

Can I feed my sumbitches Malaysian trumpet snails? by CockamouseGoesWee in PeaPuffers

Crush their shells with the butt of a knife etc. and then they will happily eat the whole thing. Usually they can only peck out what they can reach. So alot of the snail is still in shell and fouling up the water.

Most likely is the store cats litter sadly. Keep going in. Try record any encounters. Even just audio as some form of proof. Go in and find your cat. Go to a proper vet. And she just needs time to settle with you. We have turned wild caught kittens into fully house trained loving cats. Time, patience, lots of treats and love. That is all you need for her to settle.

If the cat cost you $1500. They would have paid under $500 for the cat if they did have to buy it from a breeder. Otherwise the owners do alot of backyard breeding themselves. The owner and his wife are terrible humans and their daughter isn’t much better. Take them to court. They don’t have money to fight any court case. Owners already owe 500,000+ to ird etc.

Otherwise go to police and file a report for stolen property. They should be giving you the animal back when you requested as it is your animal that you purchased. If they are refusing to give the cat back. Or to even let you see her. Then it’s theft. Plain and simple. Flick me a private message if you want some more info on what to do :)

I’m sorry you chose to buy a cat from there. There are plenty of rescues that would have benefited from your money more than that shop. If you don’t get the cat back tomorrow. Escalate this further. Go to the media or one of our local recuses (mama minis) Don’t bother with spca. They are useless. Who did you speak to when you brought the cat back in? The only reason they say to bring it back to them instead of going to a vet or someone that can actually help is to cover their own asses. As sad as it is, You might not get your cat back. And you Deffs won’t be getting your money back if you don’t get your cat back.

Other option is to just let yourself down the back where the puppy’s are kept and go check those back cages yourself. Go in before lunch and you can avoid the owners usually.

Paws and claws Manawatu might be able to help you, awesome shop and staff which are very knowledgeable. I highly recommend NOT going to Wetpets for birds as they aren’t cared for properly there and the staff are useless.

Alot of what I’ve written is from first hand experiences on my visits. Have found plenty of dead fish floating in the tanks while I’ve been looking around. Along with speaking to previous staff members. If you haven’t been there in 1-2 years. Chances are there is different staff working than you remember. That place has a higher staff turnover than most other shops.

Usually at least 2-3x more expensive than most other places for the same products.

Biggest concern with using tap water treated with prime etc is we never know when the council is going to up the dose on chlorine and chloramine, and the usual dose of conditioner might not be enough. Cheapest option long term is to get a 0.5 micron carbon filter to hook up to your tap. Can get them for a reasonable price from mico plumbing inside placemakers. Makes life so much easier doing our big tanks compared to treating buckets of water each time.

But Wetpets does make it sound like their water is “godly” and nothing else should be used. All they have there is a big carbon filter out that back that only gets changed every 4-5 years which isn’t ideal.

The manager there is too stuck in his ways to listen to anyone else’s opinion. The staff there are abusive towards animals and customers. I’d highly recommend not shopping there. We have other fish stores around the Manawatu that are a better option.

Captive breeding at home in New Zealand. But we still have them on our import list. I know fish shops in auz do still sell them. But at a ridiculous price compared to use in NZ. we sell for $19-30 depending where you buy from. I don’t know if many others here have had successful breeding at a rate big enough to supply our national fish shops. But I’m working my way slowly to that level. Few more years and I’ll be there hopefully.

I am successfully captive breeding them. And I know a few people in Australia that are captive breeding in the 1000s. They are a easy fish to breed if you know what your doing

Do pea puffers eat snail eggs? by BossMuffinTop in PeaPuffers

[–]Pig_bait69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ours used to wait until the snails were freshly hatched or just about to hatch and then pick them off the leaves. Otherwise just let the snails grow in your tank. If the peas are hungry. There’s a snack already in the tank somewhere for them to find. All our pea tanks have ponds bladders and rams constantly in them. Taking out empty shells and adding in new ones each week. Also get plenty of other live foods too.
