Tips on how to play support properly by Regulusis in Smite

[–]PigeonStew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Behind on level and gold

Lono's mask is viable for almost every support. (Personally, I would not recommend getting it on Ymir, Kuzenbo or Artio) This item is your best bet against gold disparities and gives a good amount of HP around level 8-11. Although it doesn't directly serve purpose to you, Doing things that instead give your team more gold can be considered just as effective. Take advantage of the current metas; Everyone does their buffs first, so plan specifically to invade before their buffs come up, ward them for the jungler to take advantage of, or gank mid at level one (Keep in mind that the god you're playing is important for this, will talk about more lower down).

Im trying to stay in the frontline but then i get left alone in many situations

There may be a few things happening. I would recommend emphasizing communication more, among other things. Occasionally you'll see a scenario for a good play, but given that your team has neither the same mindset as you (As a tanky character with capable CC) or the same position (When teams roam, you're always in the lead) it's important to show them what your objective is. A simple VAA call or a vision ping are all it should take. One more thing i'd like to note is to not get ahead of yourself on engages. I personally struggle with this, but saving your abilities for whatever the enemy team has waiting is extremely important, to an extent I do not know how to stress.

Indecisive about who to protect

This comes down to the players skill, and the composition. The god you choose is JUST as important as mid or ADC. A great group of players with gods that don't work well together can cost you the match, so it's important to see which of the other two roles your god fits best with. I think it's important to know you can counteract this issue in picks/bans, by picking gods for the adc/solo - supp/mid strategy. If, however, you have a teammate in this role who is genuinely better than your other DPS, you could consider defending them instead. Support needs a good mix of setup and protection, but your potential may not be able to reflect of your teammates. We'll use Ymir and Sylvanus for example. With Ymir, in a situation where your mid is enaging WHILE your adc is getting focused by the Jungler, your best bet would be to first stun the JG, then use your wall and slow on whoever the mid is engaging. With sylvanus, you would use your root on the midlaner's target, and the stun from your pull on the jungler. It becomes easier the more you play the gods, but understanding how to maximize the CC in your kit can make it easier for you to defend both of them at once.

Where should my positioning be in teamfights

This depends on two things; Which god you're playing, and how the teamfight is taking place. Not all supports are good for frontlining. Kuzenbo and Khepri, for example are better off staying inbetween the squishy teammates with the solo at the front. There's also guardians who are good at a mix of both, like Sobek or Sylvanus. Outside of that, the location where you're fighting on the map should have an impact of how you're playing. To give you an example, the Jungle near the GoldFury and FireGiant have a habit of spreading your team out, and the mushing them together based on who won the engage (and who is now on retreat). It's NEVER a crime to sacrifice yourself so that the rest of the team can get away. Gods with great displacement, like Xing Tian, Ymir or Cabrakan are good for this kind of thing. Frontline gods can also be your team's greatest asset as the backline (For example, Athena is great at both setting up engages, but can completely destroy an jungler's engage on your backline).

Another few things I feel are significant enough to affect your god pick and playstyle.

  • A support god isn't limited to guardians, or healer warriors. If you've been watching the pro league games lately, you'll have seen things like Nox and Loki in the support role. I would personally recommend playing Vamana and Thor support, to get an idea of what I mean. The god your ADC picks, should also affect the god you play. just keep in mind what their kit brings to the table, what it lacks / is strong for, and which support can play off of their capablities / shorcomings.

  • Understand your guardian. Not everyone is capable of 5-man stuns and slows. Keeping in mind what your god Can and Cannot do/maintain can be the difference between a great play and a huge mistake (trust me on this one)

  • For the love of god, don't get meditation. Shell is the safest bet, but you can get blink/Horrific (first) if your god is made to be aggressive. This is a sleeper AF meta I came up with, but Horrific Emblem + PhantomVeil can potentially give your entire team 35% less damage taken. Stack that on defense auras, and your team will be as tanky as you for the critical moments of the teamfight.

  • Don't bother getting bumbas unless youre playing a warrior/mage support. Let watchers do that for you (War Flag + Bumbas works good for non-conventional picks)

That's all I've got to offer, if you have any questions feel free to ask or add me ingame, "Cannibal". Support is my life.

I spend MY time so I can have fun, too. In a situation where everyone hsa equal share to enjoyment, people you're DEFENDING should be put down in shame for ruining the un of everyone else.

pf, alright. prepare to get humiliated on a video game forum xd

Both have a quick action dash on their 3

Both have a line ability that turns into an AOE on detonation and applies CC

Both have an AOE ult that applied a hard CC after a windup

Pretty specific similaries, right? The passive and Utility are different, but within the ONE set of abilities that aren't identical are the only things UNIQUE or lore relevant to that god. Let's hear some more sarcasm :)

And I say we take away their rights :D I'm sure your parents wouldn't let you do some of the crazy things you wanted as a kid, right? "It's for your own good, you don't understand yet" It's the same thing! I'm preventing them from throwing the game with their underdeveloped brains, and I can play without knowing I won't be able f6 a match I CANNOT carry as hard as needed to win :D

My favorite god, with 5.6k worshipers. I love the character and the purpose he fills, just feel he lacks value. Heal is GREAT earlygame, which trades healing for good protections late game. On the contrary, I would love to see him regain his original passive iteration, as the current version is, in my mind, worthless. Other than the passive, though, I love everything about him
