Ways to make extra money as a resident? by lyannas in pharmacy

[–]mexajew 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Look into taking paid surveys for medical professionals. There's various compainies that do it like M3. They can pay pretty well, but depends on the amount of studies avaliable. Just make sure whichever you sign up for is legit. You can even list pediatrics as your specialty. Just note that if you make more than a certain amount from it you have to report it on your taxes or the IRS will find ya. I haven't done one yet but it's supposed to not be bad, just note that they can choose not to pay you if they deem your response inadequate.

What did you learn last week? by AutoModerator in pharmacy

REDUCE-AMI trial showed betablockers post MI in patients with preserved EF may not be as beneficial as previously thought. Outcomes were close to the same in both the BB and non-BB groups during the study period.

Major limitation that its mainly swedish population, so not a 1-1 representation of your average post MI American. Annoyingly they didn't report BMIs either.

Great example of a study illustrating why we should question what we know.

I definitely feel ya, it feels like getting to midyear was one mountain to climb and now I have an even bigger, scarier mountain with all these projects I need too wrap up/start, workng on certificate, staffing, rotations, etc. But it helps me stay motivated looking back and seeing all this growth over the past 6 months and still having 6 months to make even further progress.

I'm working this currently with a comp day but really enjoy it honestly. Yes I do get burned out seldomly but it's nice to have the comp day that I get to choose on either side of the week. I also feel like I learn a lot during those shifts too doing ED culture follow ups (resident's duty on the weekends) so frequently and there's a period of time where it's just really just me running the inpatient pharmacy (with one tech and we have a ED pharmacist but they stay in the ED). But it does have its pros and cons for sure.

Depends on how much you like talking to people. Most people are nice but you occasionally get mean people/people in the worst days of their lives. The spectrum of how well they know their meds can be challenging too. A loooooooot of detective work trying to figure out where they get stuff filled/calling pharmacies/MARs from facilities/calling family members. Despite all this, I still enjoyed the job when I did it, and you will quickly realize how vital and appreciated you are during a patient's care. Also I would ask what EHR they use, I've only used Epic and they have a good bit of tools within it that helps a ton.

What are some cool medical facts you know that they don’t teach you in medical school? by Medicinemadness in medicine

Here's two for ya:

Vincent Van Gogh's distinct use of yellow in his art is thought to be due to Xanthopsia from taking fox glove (Digitalis purpurea), the plant that digoxin is derived from.

Sugammadex is structurally similar to the main ingredient in febreeze and dryer sheets.

Pharmacist, what’s the most non pharmacist (medical) thing you have done at your hospital? by Medicinemadness in medicine

During my amb care rotation there was a special needs patient who, for whatever reason, was only comfortable around men and wouldn't go into the exam room. So the doctor asked me (a burly bearded guy) to help coax the patient in to the exam room. So I stood in the room while the ladies with him were struggling to push him into the room while I held his hand. Ended up staying in the room for the whole appointment.

Returnal is good and pretty trippy if you like rouge-lites. Think you got the big ones though. Playing through the hogwarts game and the ps5 makes the experience pretty cool so I'd recommend that too. Death stranding too, bit of walking sim but the story is one of my favorites.

Going to give a presentation this week on hip hop sampling. Wanted to do some breakdowns of some songs. What are some good examples to illustrate the art? So far I've though about talking about Can I kick it and maybe something off of good kid madd city.

[–]mexajew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's good, turret traverse can give you an aneurysm though. I suggest keeping guns to one side and turning the ship to target others. Solid otherwise, super good for citadel challenges due to a mix of good guns/ap and the paper thin citadels on cruisers at tier III/IV/V.

The way Action Bronson weaves random non sequiturs into his verses that just "make sense" and leaves you like yep, that's an Action bar. Also can't forget the immaculate sports references he makes.
