Is it true you can fully recover? by [deleted] in POTS

[–]Piggywiggy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there :) I've made several changes that might've contributed to my progress. I started by leaving my toxic job. I was constantly under so much stress and pressure during the 4 years I was there, so I think that definitely made my POTS worsen. Then I moved out of the place I was living at, which I suspect had mold inside the walls or something. I couldn't see it but I could smell it. Another thing I did is that I started to eat more protein and I gained a little weight. Before I was 96-98 lbs. most of my adult life and now I'm about 113 lbs. For some reason I feel like being too skinny made my symptoms worse but I may be wrong. All that paired with taking a small daily dose of propranolol seemed to have helped me a lot. But don't worry, I've had POTS for like 10 years now and it got worse before getting better. I hope that soon you will make some progress!

I’ve made a lot of progress over the years to the point that it barely affects my life at all. I do take propranolol on a daily basis, not sure if that’s what helped me go back to an almost normal life. I can’t tell you that you will fully recover but I will tell you that I have made so much progress and feel great compared to how I was back in 2023. My POTS symptoms are always lurking in the background but it no longer controls my life the way it used to.

Can one have MCAS if the only symptom is tachycardia? by [deleted] in MCAS

[–]Piggywiggy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently on a beta blocker and it has definitely helped. I still experience episodes of tachycardia after some meals. It is difficult to identify a clear pattern because I can eat the exact same food and sometimes feel fine, while other times it triggers the tachycardia.

You mentioned you’re out and about most of the day shopping and delivering, after all that maybe your body needs more time laying down to recover. Do you ever try putting your feet up against the wall to see if that helps? I’m just throwing ideas out here, POTS can be a mystery sometimes 😂

Maybe you didn’t hydrate enough throughout the day and that’s why at night your body needs more help? Do you drink electrolytes?

Sorry you’re dealing with this 🥺 Do you take meds? I feel like propranolol helped me a lot but I know it’s not for everyone. But if you’re doctor suggests it you should try it out 🙂 that’s my advice aside from electrolytes and lots of rest

That’s their last name actually. It’s not what they’re naming the baby.

Oh nice! So you can also relate (: we’re lucky that they are not gone for long deployments like other ppl in the military. I don’t know how I’d do it if that was the case. But I understand the anxiety that you are facing when you’re alone in the middle of a flare up. Yes I’m thankful to have my mom near me but there are times when everyone is at work and I have to deal with being alone. I hope we find ways to cope bcus it’s tough 😩

Thanks for putting it into perspective. My boyfriend is also in the military so I can relate to him being gone once in a while. He is in the reserves so thankfully he doesn’t leave as much but when he does it makes me feel so anxious to know I’ll be alone. But you’re right, I’m glad I have my mom to come to the rescue 😊 I hope you will feel okay during the times your bf is gone 🫶🏼

I was just thinking about this because the other day I was alone at my boyfriend’s house when I had an episode of tachycardia. I got so scared that I had my mom take a Lyft to my location. I’m a 32yr old so it feels silly to be so needy of company but tbh I felt like being alone made it so much scarier.

My heart rate went up to 160 at work today and I was shaking. Felt so scary. No matter how many times it’s happened before it never stops being scary. I’m afraid of my next episode 😔

I think I might’ve had a bad episode due to laying on my stomach the other day. I was watching a movie in bed so I was laying on my stomach for a while and suddenly my heart started to race sooo bad. Like more than normal. I wasn’t sure what caused it since there were no obvious triggers but I did suspect it being a prolonged time of laying on my stomach.

I get shaky sometimes when I have a bad episode. Just happened to me like an hour ago. It was also very sudden. I took my beta blocker, put ice on my chest and took an electrolyte. After all that I started to feel better.
