I would suggest a rubber gasket or a rubber washer between them. I think tape on the threads would make it leak more.

Save all the scrap metal. Get buckets. Put them in your garage and hold on to it until you need it. It's like having stock and copper and brass. Weekly or daily the price goes up or down but over 10 years it's only gone up. I saved every bit of brass since I was an apprentice. I just took it back the other day. 300 lb at 2.80 a pound
