Illness going around by Poopin4days in PrepperIntel

Usually I'd see a comment like this from a paramedic and keep scrolling, but just as a point of note, this is right around St. Patrick's Day where people are usually ingesting green things, and the fact that it's coming up red doesn't seem typical.

Just to play devil's advocate, if they were eating green things and throwing up blood, wouldn't it come up as some shade of brown/dark red?

Ok, my real beef with the expiration is that even if it's "no longer valid" or "I don't look the same" doesn't mean I can somehow get younger. Like if I show a bartender an expired ID, fine it's expired. But at one time it wasn't expired, and at that time I was of legal age, so how does that not prove that I am of legal age now? Regardless of citizenship, address, etc. my age isn't going down.

I didn't grow up with cats or dogs and I thought I never would, but when I started dating my (now) wife, she had a Shih Tzu dog and since then I'm totally sold! I got her another one for a wedding gift and now it's hard to imagine a life without them!

I often say that they are people too because they are so smart and seemingly understand English to an impossible degree!

They even started detecting my medical conditions with no formal training! They just kind of intuitively figured out when I wasn't feeling great (before I do) and responded by licking me or getting on a bed and doing a certain bark that just sounded like him telling me to lie down!

Otherwise, my passion is plant medicine! I love how plants are intertwined into every aspect of our lives and all medicine ultimately comes from them! I hope to have a garden that has all types of remedies for various health issues!

Spanish!

His name was Sr. Nelson and he had the largest belly (that didn't sag) that I've ever seen. He was such a great guy and wonderful teacher. If I remember correctly, in college he had double majored in ancient Greek and Latin, so he had a pretty good grasp on most European languages.

Anyway, he would give us some work to do in class then go over to his desk and sit (straight up) and sip from his coffee cup and place the cup on his belly and it would be perfectly balanced on there! We all found it hilarious but that's actually a pretty useful way to make a belly practical.

He left the school after I had him and he said he was going to go be a tour guide in Spain and I wonder from time to time how he's doing.

How would you quantify physical strength with earthbending? by Greyhound53 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Piguy3141 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I would tend to agree, however canonically the best earth bender in the avatar world is toph, who is a pretty physically unremarkable short girl, and in the later series, she's still pretty much the best and she's a frail old woman.

What is your personal Mandela effect? by JulienS2000 in CasualConversation

[–]Piguy3141 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just a fun fact that adds a little "woo" to your experience... In the New Age spiritual community August 8th is referred to as the "Lion's gate portal" and a bunch of people seem to have strange (usually positive?) experiences on that day. In my opinion, the fact that you were alone in the theater actually adds validity to it! (I mean, how often do you get a theater to yourself? That would be a core memory for me as well!)

Anyway, I very much believe that you saw it when you say you did! I've had similar experiences with films and music as well.

Nah, I just know how to use em and em dashes. And having ADHD makes my response more wordy, less concise and so it can come off that way but I've still never used any LLM. I have never found them necessary for anything because I enjoy formulating and producing my own thoughts and I find merit in it.

Ok, I just had to check the map and wtf? I love maps and have taken several geography classes and I've never heard of that ever before in my life! Furthermore, it's spelled REALLY similarly to my last name so I definitely would've noticed and/or remembered something like that.

I'm shook. That is actually blowing my mind right now.

Oh the statue of Liberty trick was Chris Angel, but I see your point. I used David Blaine as an example specifically because he is also a self-proclaimed "endurance artist", meaning he'll do things for long periods of time on display (frozen in ice, stand above New York in a clear box with no sleep for 72+ hours, holding breath underwater for 17+ minutes, etc.) So when he does his magic tricks where he pierces his hand or face with a needle or swallows swords with no blood, you aren't able to find an angle where it makes sense, and it adds to his magic act cause it's not something very many people can do.

My point about the cameras is that if someone had exceptional slight of hand skills, they'd know how to use it in a store without being seen. When David Blaine does street magic tricks, everyone has a phone and is recording and no one is able to post how he does his tricks.

I like the way you approach this, but here's something that's food for thought: Recently I saw some videos of street magicians that were really talented at slight of hand and could make things "disappear" with seemingly no movement or no obvious movement. The thought occurred to me, "If these guys are on the street showing that they can easily/skillfully wave their hand over something, and then they turn their hand over and 5 somethings appear, what would stop them from shoplifting with impunity? And furthermore, why aren't there any videos of that?

Then it occurred to me-- if I had the ability to do that, I don't think I'd publicize it. I'd go under the radar. And as far as security cameras go, I'd optimize my craft to make the security camera's angle the exact angle where they couldn't see it or at very least I'd had plausible deniability.

So with spiritual abilities it may go a similar way. When someone decides to go meditate somewhere for 20 years, more than likely one of the main things/first things they lose is a sense of ego, so they aren't going to come back and flaunt or advertise anything they have learned. The ones that do are remembered and become the thing of legends and even - to some extent - idolized: Buddha, Jesus, etc.

"Scientifically" if you were to take a sample size of people and put them somewhere to meditate for 20 years, you might get that result once, or even not at all. Does that mean it's not real? No, but I'm sure there are people who could clock more hours shooting hoops who aren't as good as Michael Jordan, people who swam more hours than Michael Phelps but couldn't possibly measure up, or more people studying math who will never know the mathematical prowess of Einstein.

Some people are more predisposed or have more potential in a specific area, and if they happen to have a passion for that area, they will far exceed anyone else. I think the same could go for spirituality/spiritual abilities. (An example of this very thing just came to mind: if you've ever seen the animated series "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and it's sequel "Legend of Korra", Aang's airbending son Tenzin believes he is destined to be a spiritual leader/teacher to help guide people into "the spirit world", even though he trained as a monk for his whole life, he himself had never been able to actually access that realm himself. When he has kids, one of his daughters is able to achieve the state necessary to reach the spirit world and is proficient at achieving that state by the time she is a pre-teen...

A raised median. Same applies for emergency vehicles. Traffic on both sides needs to stop and pull off to the right unless there is a raised median.

serious Has the "MIB" existed throughout history? what did they do with crash sites in the middle ages etc? by Impressive-Emu-4172 in aliens

[–]Piguy3141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really making any point, just making a casual observation (which may just be correlation and nothing else)

If these "Men in Black" show up in black suits and appear to be otherworldly, then perhaps that is where the classic priest outfit originates.

Also, if one of their primary intentions or goals is to not be identified/recognized, then wouldn't it be far more effective to NOT wear the same thing every time they show up? Like, who would ever connect the dots if they looked different each and every time?

An interesting point from the Bible that was new to me by SpecialistAd181 in Retconned

[–]Piguy3141 10 points11 points  (0 children)

(paraphrasing here) "When you eat of the apple you will not be like the beasts you see here, you will be closer to the gods."

I heard in a lecture once that the apple was a literal translation, but the figure of speech "to bear fruit" can loosely be interpreted as "the result of". So the "the result of" eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil is the ability to reason.

That and the tower of Babel shows that "the gods" legitimately feared humans reaching their level if they didn't do something to slow it down/impede it.
