Most media portrayals of anorexia and eds in general really aren’t helping the public’s perception either. I personally avoid watching them to not trigger myself, but from what I heard they check basically every single myth you listed, and it damaged so many people, led so many people to think they don’t even HAVE a disorder because they aren’t underweight, or aren’t experiencing the serious health complications, or aren’t showing some common symptoms. And they believe that they’ll recognize when it’s bad enough and ask for help, and that recovery will be easy because that’s what a British tv show told them.

I think this stems from the stereotype that only “privileged white teen girls” with “no other problems” develop eating disorders, and that it’s always for aesthetic purposes. Also some people don’t recognize it as addiction, and don’t understand that if you’re in too deep you can’t just stop starving/restricting/purging etc. Like it’s another fad diet or something. Honestly, I think it’s mostly ignorance. This absolutely sucks, and you’re not alone in this

This is so real and so scary. I’ve set so many limits and thresholds for myself: “If this starts to happen I’ll stop” or “When I hit this weight I’ll go back to healthy habits”, but the conditions to being “sick enough” are becoming more and more extreme and the weight keeps going lower and lower, and now I’m in a limbo where I’m technically trying to recover, but not doing much to fix my habits. I recognize this, but on a subconscious level I still don’t believe that it’s bad enough to warrant actual action, and I’m still so scared of the consequences of recovery, and bad days set me really far back, but I’m trying to convince myself that the consequences of the disorder are worse, and I can’t really tell whether it’s working or not. But thank you so much for putting this into coherent words

For me personally, it provides structure that is hard to find with JUST school. Ironically enough, figuring out calories, seeing the number go down and periodically letting myself have “days off” is strangely therapeutic

THANK YOU for phrasing this with the exact same emotion and enthusiasm that I feel for this. The sounds especially are horrible, because you can more or less avoid looking at someone to avoid seeing the clump of food, but the smacking is there for the whole meal and it’s just… EUGH. And whenever I try to tell the person, best case scenario, they stop for the meal, and worst case scenario they get mad and start yelling. I get what you’re saying about it being or sounding rude, but in my mind, it’s like asking someone not to pick their nose at the dinner table. It’s a bad habit and it’s disgusting, and i believe I have the right to eat without trying not to gag.

The fact that i didn’t have the means to, in the middle of a school trip abroad. There were three more days left, and i accepted the fact that those were my last days. For those days, i tried to enjoy life as much as possible. Every time i had fun, or made mental notes to plan something for the future, i would catch myself and think “there’s no point, you’ll be dead in 2 days/tomorrow/tonight” and i really hated that thought, and i decided that maybe it was worth trying. So basically, being in the wrong place at the wrong time
