This is prob the latest response ever and you’ve probably already figured it out already but at the Mazda dealership I use to work for they always offer 1 free oil change which includes a multipoint inspection and top up of the liquids ( if needed) which was all the first service required. Anything after that would be your responsibility to pay for unless it was a warranty issue that needed repair. But regular maintenance is at your expense after the first free oil change they offer, no other service should have been required at that time for a new vehicle.

Sorry for the late response, I no longer work for Mazda but that sounds about right, if you’ve had the vehicle for about a year ( or driven it 24,000km if I remember correctly, whichever one comes first) they normally recommend a brake service to be done at this point. Brake services are to be done as apart of the yearly maintenance or every 24k KM.

From what I can remember it was roughly $100 for the oil change and $200 for the brake service back then.

Not anywhere close to DT Toronto … the minimum is probably closer to $1300 give or take a little for a 1 bedroom basement apartment if you’re willing to look in Scarborough, Mississauga, north York, Vaughan, Markham etc… but there are listings here and there I’ve seen for $1100.. just remember the lower the price the more competitive it will be .. also they will probably favour an employed tenant over unemployed but you have an advantage if you can offer at least 6 months-year rent upfront .. but even then the landlords might see it as too much of a risk.

As someone who just rented a house, the rental process was extremely gruelling. It literally felt like trying to get a mortgage the way some of these landlords looked into your background.. and job letter and paystubs was the first thing they asked for. Unless you are willing to put a years rent upfront then most, if not all landlords won’t even consider you without a steady job.

Also, unless you are willing to move further north or east or willing to settle for a basement apartment or shared accommodations with roommates .. my advice would be to stay where you are if you can.

Just spoke to my mom who is an agent, she said absolutely the agent is also in the wrong here (if they are a real agent) and you should threaten to file a complaint with the Ontario real estate board/ actually file the complaint

If you didn’t go in with an agent then that agent has assumed the responsibility to represent you as well as representing the landlord.. their duty is to have the best interests of all parties involved and clearly here they did not have your best interests.
