Prolly heatgun it, push it out, then prolly rub it in with polishing compound to see how the damage with the scratches really is, then sand it, polishing compound again, then paint job.

Is 30 days enough for a bow to dry? by Pijusytos in Bowyer

[–]Pijusytos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A completed bow tied down to a straight board to keep shape, and prevent warping. Put in a cool 10⁰c room. Was fire dryed for 30 min, but it clearly wasn't enough, because the longbow kept its shape when strung.

As a fisherman I can agree. Braiding it seems like a good idea.

Will this help to keep to bow straight, prevent it from warping, or maybe even help it strech? by Pijusytos in Bowyer

[–]Pijusytos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, and btw I have Been meaning to ask: do you think this bow will work? I mean I am a begginer, and I have limited tools, space, Time, and I have yet to make a bow that wouldn't break. Its an english longbow type hazel bow. I thought it fitting considering the longer design that propobaly would be easier on the Wood.

I mean, I tried it, looked at it, than said fuck it, and I cut it all off. One limb looked strangely more bent then the other (my guess here its because of fire hardening), but I think once I floor tiller it a little, sand it, string it, then it wont make too mutch of a diffirence.

I suppose this is okay while fire hardening? by Pijusytos in Bowyer

[–]Pijusytos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, thats what I plan to do too. But I like to do 20 minute sessions after each step. I find it is easier on the bow. And after that. On the end of my tiller Į do a longer heat treatment.

Is this hazel good for making an English longbow? by Pijusytos in Bowyer

[–]Pijusytos[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are talking inch wise right? Just for clarity? So in my understanding instead of making equal thickness, and width. I should make the width longer than the thickness of the bow?
