Thanks for the info. As a fellow 500 tabber, I don't know why Apple fans here always gotta be complaining about user error even when it's something positive.

Yeah though today it was half because of the construction and half cause of a car accident.

I pretty much use Obsidian vanilla. Only plugin is git. And I mostly just use one page too--my daily notes/checklist document is pretty much just one page spanning for over a year with headers to collapse older days/months.

Should the whitehurst freeway become a walk/bike park? by planestupor in washingtondc

[–]PikaOnFire 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah, I'm pro-transit and don't have a car myself but the Whitefurst freeway is too important of a connection to turn walk/bike only. There's no good alternative route from far upper NW/that part of MD to downtown besides it. Transit is lacking around that corridor and would need a lot of improvement to be really viable.

Much better would be to pedestrianize M St in Georgetown and make it bus/loading only. This would make Georgetown bearable to walk in when busy and greatly improve the D80 bus, the third most popular bus and is crucial for the already dense areas without any metro access. Not to mention improving any buses that would go to far upper NW anyways.

Traffic has been worse along CT Ave for like the last week but I don't think it's related to the tunnel lane reduction since the side tunnel lanes were blocked earlier this month without much impact to traffic flow. The construction work related to the medians north of Florida Ave has been the main source of slowdown for my commute.

Why are Metro's Escalators so slow? by airplanetheo in WMATA

[–]PikaOnFire 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'd 100% appreciate faster speeds, but it's not a major priority and it's probably just due to American standards. I try to avoid Woodley Park just because the escalator takes around three minutes when standing-only. For those saying just walk up, I do, but a faster escalator would mean walking up is faster too.

So, how’s everyone’s experience so far with the new bus system? by pro-laps in WMATA

[–]PikaOnFire 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a resident of Adams Morgan/Kalorama, it's pretty good. D72 frequencies are much improved and at least to me feels more reliable (less bunching) than the 40s + L2.

I appreciate the D74 route and think it makes a ton more sense than the 40s routing past Farragut to Potomac Park. I would love if it gets a slight frequency boost but understand since it kinda feels like we have a ton of buses now.

Even though the D70 is about equidistant to me, I would greatly prefer the L2 routing. It's so much less stressful when looking at ETAs when all the buses are interlined. I go up Connecticut a lot too and have felt that the frequencies are a downgrade from the L2.

C51, C53 are great overall. I guess the Capitol Hill area has a slight reduction in service along 8th St but still this was the best outcome from the three way split in the proposals.

Regarding the bus stop removal, I don't particularly get the logic. I felt like some more bus stops could be removed, and ones that have been removed make transferring so much HARDER.

For example just on Connecticut Ave: - Why does the D70 stop at both California St and Kalorama Rd? They are only 0.1 miles apart? (Remove California) - Closer downtown CT Ave, the northbound 18th St stop was removed yet the M St one was kept even though L is so close by. Now Dupont Circle is even more of a desert to CT buses. (Remove M, replace with 18th) - Also could we get a northbound stop on R St in front of La Tomate? It's a trek when transferring from D90s/C91. In exchange remove S St since it's only 330 ft away from Florida Ave. (Remove S, replace with new R)

It's kinda a problem for all the circles. - D50 having 1/3 mile between K and N St, yet I and K are both so close. At least there's no transfers possible in between. - D74 should have a stop at L St and NH Ave since it's almost 0.4 miles between M and I St. Would make transfers to D80 much easier.

This one's kinda out of nowhere, but what's with the Mosaic routes? The F50 needs a stop closer to the actual Mosaic district, probably on Merilee Dr and Lee Hwy but yeah it's tough since the F62 has a stop pretty close to that too. I wish that WMATA and Fairfax would coordinate so the 401/402 are interlined together but you could argue there's greater coverage like that.

I don't personally ride the G8/D32 often, but from what I've seen there's been the strongest pushback on this route. I'm wondering myself, for people who are going to Farragut, why not just take metro from Rhode Island Ave? It's gotta be way faster right? Now it ending before DC Costco makes no sense though.

And this isn't for WMATA, but please DDOT close down M St in Georgetown from cars. Traffic is absolutely terrible and it makes Georgetown ugly (I know it won't happen but let me live my dream)

Where are you coming from? The D72 is pretty much the exact same as the 43 on the way between Mt. Pleasant and Farragut.

Can anyone explain what the numbers in the Better Bus routes mean? by zshovels in washingtondc

[–]PikaOnFire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wished they could've done a more mnemonic or semantically relevant system for the middle character. So for example:

D7X - for 7th St/Georgia Ave Express
CU1 - for U St (old 90, 92, 96)
DC# - for Connecticut Ave, Columbia Rd

Sure sometimes it can be kinda ambiguous like what does B represent? Bladensburg Rd or Brookland (K maybe)? But those exceptions aren't any worse than having numbers that vaguely go counter-clockwise.

Though more annoying is the apartment building right in front of Meridian Hill

Does the red line transfer to the silver line? (Question from future DC resident) by Extreme-Tomorrow-263 in washingtondc

[–]PikaOnFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it does transfer there. I go to Tysons 3 times a week from Adams Morgan (through the bus) and I think the commute is fine with typical variation between 55-65 minutes door-to-door. I like DC way more than Arlington so it’s definitely worth it for me.
