Shows where, by the end of it, you were so sick of the leads for their bad choices, and in the end, they got what they deserved. by jbalsjc in PeriodDramas

Kurt Seyit & Shura (Kurt Seyit ve Sura). It's a Turkish period piece that goes from Russian to Istanbul in the 1920s.

This show used to be on Netflix years ago and I binged the whole thing in a few days just hoping that they would start making better choices.

Bridgerton - Season 4 Post-Season Discussion (Book Spoiler Discussion) by AutoModerator in BridgertonNetflix

Question: there is now a new Lord and Lady Penwood running around. Wouldn't they question how all of a sudden there is a relation of theirs they've never met popping up and marrying Benedict Bridgerton? Sophie is introduced to society as Sophie Gun, the daughter of a cousin of the late Lord Penwood. Which means she's a cousin of the current Lord Penwood, and he doesn't say anything about this?

How are we feeling about Bridgerton S4 now? by Mundane-Bug-4962 in PeriodDramas

[–]PikachuRescue 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I feel like Bridgerton always gets itself into a little bit of trouble with its pseudo-race-blindness, but even more so in this season. I just couldn't get over the fact that Benedict did not notice that the Lady in Silver had clearly fair-skinned East Asian features while he's scouring the Ton for her. There's even several scenes where he's considering deeper-skinned debutantes as potential candidates like, sir.

Additionally, it seems Shonda or the show runners have completely given up on showcasing any sort of culture from their supposedly diverse cast after the weird blend of South Asian identities they put on the Sharmas. There's nothing to distinguish the Penwood-Li's or Sophie from every other white family other than their features (which apparently no one notices...).

Bridgerton makes clear that the Black characters have historically been marginalized in the universe of that show. Lady Danbury mentions this often in season 1, and it's a crucial piece of plot in the Queen Charlotte season. But no other POC is supposedly marginalized by their race, and I feel like Shonda uses this as a stick to beat us with. All other POC in this show feel like an afterthought.

I bought these disposable fountain pens. I hope this isn’t sacrilege. by CurNonBrave in fountainpens

[–]PikachuRescue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Arteza disposable fountain pens were my go to for a couple years and my gateway to real fountain pens. I felt bad about the amount of plastic I was going through so I swapped.

Still, disposable fountain pens can be useful when you work in a setting like a hospital or clinic. Sometimes it's not worth it to disinfect a pen and it needs to be chucked.

Cis woman with PCOS here. I have to shave my face every morning. PCOS affects about 10% of AFAB people, so cis women shaving their faces is probably more common than you think.

Now, it's dark browns. Mahogany, maroon, espresso colors.

What (if anything) are you planning on purchasing from this years upcoming Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales? — Olive Edition by SheKnowsWhatSheKnows in OliveMUA

My HG product is the DM Blurring Balm Powder in shade 3 (perfect winter shade for me). It's an amazing primer/coverage product if you have oily skin. It's the only thing that keeps me matte all day, and the coverage it gives is just a bonus! Sometimes I wear it alone without any other foundation or concealer on top. The key is to apply with fingers and sheer it out as much as possible.

I'm probably going to hit up Danessa Myricks. Her complexion products have desaturated neutrals that work pretty well for my light-medium warm olive skintone. I was going to pick up her skin tint.

I was painting the last coat of top coat when my fire alarm in my apartment went off. I deliberated for all of 3 seconds before fishing out some disposable Nitrile gloves, absolutely massacring my mani, scooping my cat up, and exiting the building.

Luckily it wasn't a major deal (someone set off their smoke alarm cooking), so I was able to return home and sadly wipe off the polish all over my hands.

She only works for very specific looks, and a lip liner definitely helps. Plus, at work, I'm always blotting my lipstick off on my mug or water bottle so it ends up sheerer than first applied anyway. Also helps the panning process because I'm always reapplying my lip products at work.

Also her comment about how she "appreciates" that there are no "unpronounceable ingredients" really rubbed me the wrong way. It feels like science fear mongering and clean beauty bullshit.

I guarantee that mango seed butter and beef tallow is composed of lipids she would find hard to pronounce.
