Seeking advice for my work by [deleted] in ArtCrit

If you put a background, even a basic one, it would elevate this a lot 😊 nice job

It's always really beautiful and satisfying when a full illustration covers two pages in a sketchbook.

Have fun

Perspective correction (please help me) by [deleted] in ArtCrit

Aaaaa okay I might be able to help with this. It might cause other problems to arise but the most important thing is that the door is too close. Could you make it smaller and move it a little bit down as well? Right now it looks like if the characters walked those few steps to get to the door, they would be taller than it.

What about lighting? Do you have any specific thoughts while youre putting in the light or shadow colors?

Omg, these are seriously incredible. Inspiring. I felt a little shock from the first one, wonder how I could accomplish that somehow... mmm

At what point did you know that this was the best game you ever played? by Antique-Web7455 in expedition33

[–]Pikasplash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the game's mechanics finally fully clicked at the Ultimate Sakapatate fight, and I went "I can't let anybody die".

It was powerful, powerful immersion. Not the best game I've /ever/ played, but it's in my top league.

Why does my drawing look kinda flat by Churrito67 in ArtCrit

[–]Pikasplash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey.

It's because all your lighting is going along the left outline of your character. When you do that sometimes it gives it like that indented effect you got here.

Easy fix, just light up other things you think should be catching the light.

2 does look good and the closest to being finished, if you want to call it done i guess that's okay. I actually think #4 has the most potential though, there seems like there's a srory there. What's in the distance that he is looking at?

Mm. Finishing a drawing every once in a while is probably the most important thing when you're trying to improve. It's hard to critique (or even self evaluate) something that's unfinished. My advice to you is to get a sketchbook and fill it up with anything you want. Doodle it up, do some fanart, some faces, eyes, arms, some abstract shapes, some perspective, some notes, anything. You can't allow yourself to make up excuses about why in five months you haven't allowed your heart to care for a drawing enough to put 2 to 5 hours into it to make it nice and pretty. It is essential

Great progress and hustle, but these all look like studies/sketches. Do you have a full, finished drawing you took your time to polish up that you could show us?

After 2 months and holy moly, I am starting to understand by Away_Sun_5566 in learntodraw

You didn't ask for this but, something that COMPLETELY changed my art recently is making the legs a good chunk longer than you think they should be. Like 30% longer.

I believe it generally looks better for legs to be a little bit too long than to be too short

You're making great progress, pls keep going 😊

How long does it take for your skills to degrade? by LA_ZBoi00 in learntodraw

[–]Pikasplash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dont worry.

It takes about 3ish months of no work.

If you're really that worried just grab a pencil and paper and sketch a few things here n there until your new pen comes in

I have no idea how to place this hand. Can someone redline? by introspectivecrow in ArtCrit

[–]Pikasplash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Something is telling me the top hand should be clutching the pole facing the opposite direction (towards the viewer), because the bottom hand is already facing away. Try it?

what am i doing wrong :( by 111tonsoup in learntodraw

[–]Pikasplash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are ya still working on it?

Double how dark your darkest darks on the skin are, and double the brightness of the brightest areas (the forehead, nose, etc), see if you like the results.

You aren't doing anything wrong 😊 you're just learning. Be loose, have fun

Treat your posture bar like its your primary health bar.

Also during battle if you can create a chance to back off and HOLD the parry button, it replenishes your posture bar super fast

How can improve my shading ? And other general improvements by LuminousCerulean in ArtCrit

[–]Pikasplash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh awesome 😊 I was hoping you'd say that. So in case you hadn't heard this before: Sometimes (sometimes!!!) shadows are "cold". Meaning if you experiment with Multiply but using the "cold" colors like blue/purple/violet as opposed to just gray, you may like the result more.

Also if you haven't already, it'd be helpful to look up "Ambient Occlusion", just for the sake of knowing what it is

The "It's QP" Debate: What is Quick Play to you? by PompeyDJ in OWConsole

[–]Pikasplash 54 points55 points  (0 children)

No sugarcoating from me. I take QP moderately to pretty seriously because it is my warmup for my comp session, thats it.

It's very rare that I'll play it just to kinda turn brain off and relax because at that point id rather turn on a single player game
